I'm to the point my 9-5 is taking up my whole fucking day. But at the end of 2 weeks I get a bullshit 1200 dollars. My day job leaves me no time to pursue a business I set up online

My biz is already set up. But I feel if I could work it full time for a year it could make me just as much as my day job

So would anyone quit work and move back home until the biz takes off a little. I'm single with no seeds yet so I figure the time is now.

I have an internet biz too, I sell on Amazon.
I make 4k a Month right now with room to make about an additional 2-3k. I still work full time.
My advice to you is do your best to do both. Your regular job allows you to get a steady pay check
along with sickdays, personal days and of course medical insurance. If you quit you would not have
those "perks" anymore.
Another thing I learned is nothing online is guaranteed, shit could
flip flop on you in a second. Do your best to do both, if you need to cut down on spending time with
bitches then do so.
Money comes first!!
Just stack your paychecks or vice versa

I mean with the job crunch I wouldnt voluntarily walk away from any job. Just try to manage your time better I guess, you said 9-5.. it shouldnt take up your whole day.

I sell Movies on Amazon....
Can't disclose what kind in the open but shit is like Crack.
I started last Year about November. Did Ebay, Craigslist
& Amazon. Made lots of mistakes but I'm good now.
I figure around X-mas time I will make about 10k a month

Yea I agree. I would do both as I am now. Once I am making enough steady income to cover my bills, operational costs, and at least a 30% profit monthly. I would go 100% into my business solo and independent of a normal job.

In the past, I have done this but it wasn't by choice. My job had a huge layoff and I was somewhat forced into working for myself but I was doing well. Although, I didn't feel it was secure and my numbers were not where I felt they should be.

So from an experienced independent business owner, an former experienced multiple store manager, and a business degree holder. I would suggest that you make sure your business is 100% legal and have at least 1 to 2 years saved up to cover your existing expenses plus costs of your business.

Its good to make good money on the side or even have a few good months but until you know the trends, how the market affects you, and how to realistically view your business in action. I would make sure you have that 1 to 2 years of money aside.

Very important.

If you don't have any family to support, then I say go for it. I did the same thing in 2005 with Elite-Electronix. Was late on my rent for a few months, ended up having to move back in with moms for a few months more. But things did eventually pick up, and that made it all worth it.

In two years, I grossed $600k from a $400 investment. I learned a lot from that experience, and now I am poised to pursue another business venture in the same vertical. Except, this time, I am going to create a marketplace to do business with both other online merchants as well as general consumers.

So yeah, I say go for it only if you can afford to fail. And if you fail, fail fast, learn from the failure, and adjust to create a better outcome for the next round.

Congrats

If I remember correctly you are the same one who just a few months back was making only 2k a month ... now you're up to 4k

PS: Although it doesn't really matter, How old are you?

I did it to open my franchise last yr. To be honest, I regret leaving my previous job, as I haven't seen the replacement income yet from my business. Now that the business is self-sustaining while putting a bit of money in my pocket, I can afford myself the time to look for a full-time gig now.
My advice would be to run the business on the side for as long as you can and grow it to the point that the income and time necessary are unavoidable. Once you can fully, w/o question, support yourself on strictly the business' income then quit ur day job.

How do you guys go about making a business online, like selling on Amazon?

It's as easy as listing what you want to sell, giving them your account number for the payment deposits, and then shipping the items once they are sold ...

bro i would say keep your dayjob and your online biz too. i havent read anything besides your first post yet, but first off I'd say try organizing your tasks a lil better, make better use of your time. i know you're savvy, so make better use of your time all day. that shit is money for real. maybe you're bringing too much work home everyday, try to get the dayjobs tasks done as efficiently and quickly as possible so it doesn't have to dig into your other endeavors. i know how that shit is, makes u mad at yourself. plus, a steady check is kinda hard to come by these days, and if nothin else, if your online biz is makin money, you can put those work checks up or flip em or stack interest on em or invest them ino a storefront or whatever. good luck.

To make that kind of income though, you need to have an inventory. I'm not talking about selling things here and there, making it an additional income.

Exactly

My inventory is in the form of used/new books, R&B sells Videos,

... you gotta find something that sells and moves fairly quickly

thats whats up. Did you need a store or was it online?

keep your job to stack paper and cut down regular expenses. If you can move to your mom house and still keep your day job while you save that would be gravy!

also if your doing computer biz not sure what type of business you are doing perhaps you can hire part time computer kid, craigslist or elance.com to get things started.

My advice to you is to do a dry run with your business and see if its worth giving up the 9 to 5. Have a talk your HR Dept. and ask them if they can put you on for part time for awhile, tell them that your current schedule is coinciding with your school schedule, or even considering taking a temporary leave of absence. I've been thinking about doing the same for a couple of months now, but in this economy you cant second guess shit now a days. Good luck with Your business tho, Cant nobody pay you like you pay your self!

I'm kinda at my limit right now cause I package orders up at
work, I also sell on craigslist and do copied movies with the pics on the disc itself.
I only make 500 a month from that and about 400 a month off craigslist

I'm 40
Wish I would have had this idea when I was
25...but hey we get older faster than we get smarter:smh:

Hey man, what is it you sell on Amazon, i am really interested in doing something similar on e-bay and i need some pointers...

I sell "Used" Movies
Ebay is good, Power Sellers try to shut you down though (and succeed)
Selling and Media on Ebay is a tough sell cause there's a lot
of fraud out there so you are under a powerful microscope

are you already doing the things you would do with more time
basically asking are you making the most oif the opportunity you have now.

are you using 100% of the profits to grow the business?
are you using 100% of the time you have dedicated to growing the business to make it the most it can be

if not those are the first changes you should make and after you have proven yourself to have the discipline you will have to make a decision not before.
really you should not look at leaving a job until it cost you more to be at the job than you are making at the job

As someone in the same predicament, I can say that this is the best advice, by far.

I want to quit my 9 to 5 BAD to pursue my own thing but they are paying me way too much to give up my job (especially during a recession). Plus, I've got a car note, a mortgage, credit card bills, etc. and I really can't see myself moving in with my crazy ass parents.

Thus, the best thing to do is become a master of time-management and learn to cut out some of your wants and vices which is WAAAAAY easier said than done (yes, you may have to cut bitches off for the time being). As a person who works a full time job and also has a business, you will sometimes feel that you are ENTITLED to bullshit and have fun but you have to get over that.

do it

hold up....move back home? back in w/your parents!?

that's a huge no-no :smh:

yeah your game is going to get chopped in half

I mean its kind of a last resort move. honestly if I'm your pops and you try that quit your job / move home shit I'm meeting you at the doorstop with the chain lock on the door and look out at you like :hmm:

just my 2 cents but the point of starting a business is generating enough revenue that you can quit your day job without losing money. so that means generally speaking you should be working in your off time on it, not quitting your job on some dumb shit. that just backs you into a corner. bottom line prove you can generate some damn revenue first. test stuff out.

I stayed up to trade, had a good night, now I can't fucking sleep and I have to make calls in the morning, now i'll prolly oversleep :( with that said, I think you should fucking quit your job, to force yourself to go hard. Here is a rule from the 33 strategies of war.

4: Create a sense of urgency and desperation: Death-ground

Place yourself where your back is against the wall and you have to fight like hell to get out alive.

If you read a lot of good success stories I'd say most people have a background in which they had to do this. Either by default, or purposely.
