The Suzuki Hayabusa (or GSX1300R) is a sport bike motorcycle made by Suzuki since 1999. It immediately won acclaim as the world's fastest production motorcycle, with a top speed of 188–194 miles per hour (303–312 km/h).

Hayabusa 隼 is Japanese for Peregrine Falcon, a bird that often serves as a metaphor for speed due to its vertical hunting dive, or stoop, speed of 180 to 240 miles per hour (290 to 390 km/h), the fastest of any bird.[6][7] In particular, the choice of name was made due to the fact that the peregrine falcon preys on blackbirds,[8] which reflected the intent of the original Hayabusa to unseat the Honda CBR1100XX Super Blackbird as the world's fastest production motorcycle.[9][10][11] Eventually, the Hayabusa managed to surpass the Super Blackbird by at least a full 10 miles per hour (16 km/h).[4][12]

In 2000, fears of a European regulatory backlash or import ban[13][14][15] led to an informal agreement between the Japanese and European manufacturers to govern the top speed of their motorcycles at an arbitrary limit.[16]

The media-reported value for the speed agreement in miles per hour was consistently 186 mph, while in kilometers per hour it varied from 299 to 303 km/h, which is typical given unit conversion rounding errors. This figure may also be affected by a number of external factors,[17] as can the power and torque values.[18]

The conditions under which this limitation was adopted led to the 1999–2000[2][3] Hayabusa's title to remain, at least technically, unassailable, since no subsequent model could go faster without being tampered with.[19] Thus, after the much anticipated[20][21][22] Kawasaki Ninja ZX-12R of 2000 fell 4 mph (6 km/h) short of claiming the title, the Hayabusa secured its place as the fastest standard production bike of the 20th century.[23][24][25] This gives the unrestricted 1999–2000[2][3] models even more cachet with collectors.[26]

Besides its speed, the Hayabusa has been lauded by many reviewers for its all-around performance, in that it does not drastically compromise other qualities like handling, comfort, reliability, noise, fuel economy or price in pursuit of a single function.[5][27][28] Jay Koblenz of Motorcycle Consumer News commented, "If you think the ability of a motorcycle to approach 190 mph or reach the quarter-mile in under 10 seconds is at best frivolous and at worst offensive, this still remains a motorcycle worthy of just consideration. The Hayabusa is Speed in all its glory. But Speed is not all the Hayabusa is

him AND the bike are all over the road...

:smh: the foot inside his boot is the only thing left whole

WORD!!

Makes me think of my boy Darrell (RIP). First time rider, and against EVERYONE'S advice, he went and got a Yamaha R6, because it looked "cooler" than the Katana, the bike I suggested he get. 2nd week he had it, he smacked the back of a van, flew over the van, and an oncoming car smacked him before he hit the ground knocking him another 30 or so feet. It pissed me off, because he looked me in the face and promised that he wouldn't get that bike. Still pisses me off to this day.

as a bike rider, it irritates me when people tell me all these accident/death stories, just because they see me on my bike,,, that's like someone buying a new car & all their friends & family telling them about people they know who were in car wrecks,,, that's stupid,,, & no, i'm not watching the video

:yes::yes:Exactly, too many daredevils out here. I see these clowns all of time out in my area.

So you don't think the same thing could have happened on a Katana?

Bikes of all sizes have this little thing call a throttle.

ISOLATED FUCKING INCIDENT!!

A freaking R6 man? C'mon! It's a SIX HUNDRED CC BIKE. So freaking what? 600cc's are often used as starter bikes. I depends on the rider's skill level, and SO MANY other factors. Him smackng the back of the van probably had nothing to do with the type of bike he got. Dudes can get killed on 250's, mopeds, and walking across the street.

Y'all kill me w/ these horror stories. Until you've actually ridden for a while and know the real deal, quit spreading this horror madness.

Dude THANK YOU. I'm tired of these people doing the same thing.

How many people get killed everyday because they were shot, and how many people continue to purchase gun licenses?

Throttle aint the same on a Katana and a R6. Even still though, it all comes down to riding skills, and a lot of people just don't have it.

First of all, calm the hell down! I'm a biker myself (25+ years), and you know good and damn well an R6 is not a beginner's bike, I don't give a shit if it is just a 600cc bike, it's not for beginners. A Katana and a CBR are a little more forgiving than any R series bike, and you know that. And if you had paid ANY attention to my post, you'd know that I was blaming my boy, not the bike.

Exactly! You remember when Jay Williams crashed his R1 and his career? He said that he saw the pole coming up, and said to himself that he'd jump off the bike before it hit the pole. He said that he hit pole before he even finished that thought.

So what is the difference?

The throttle regulates engine speed on both.
Engine torque, rpms in the first gear, power to weight ratio. I don't feel like looking up specs, but there is a reason why an R6 is a race bike, and a Katana is a sport tour bike.

fuck bikes on the for real...my dude recently had his femur snapped like a twig where this jeep rammed into him when switching into his lane...he's laid up in his place on oxys..can't drive his corvette or anything..doped up...its wild:smh:

So what is the difference?

The throttle regulates engine speed on both.

Gas pedal regulates speed in a Minivan and a Sports Car also.

A Katana isn't as responsive at the throttle as sport bike. While I wouldn't suggest anyone buy a Katana(Can-a-tuna) there is a difference.

but there is a reason why an R6 is a race bike, and a Katana is a sport tour bike.

And you can get your ass killed on both if you choose to ride like a fool.

There are scooters out there with 600cc engines.

I own a Kawasaki ZX-14 and a Suzuki Hayabusa and they can do 20 mph or 190 mph if you wanna twist that throtttle.

Also, add the fact that when people panic, what's the first thing they do? Grab the throttle and hold on for dear life. :smh:

Man, did you not see me say "it comes down to skill that a lot of people don't have"? If you gone quote me, quote everything I say please.

I get that, but c'mon, a Katana? Don't put that on ya boy. I wish someone told me before getting one years back, but I got a 750 Katana and that thing was pretty swift. Maybe a 500 Ninja or even a 636 woulda been good for him.

 I was just about say the same thing. Personally, I think you can get in more trouble with a less powerful bike because its easy to find yourself overcompensating for it's slowness by riding it faster.

I can't get witcha on that one. You'll want to ride faster, sure. But I think the limiting power keeps you safer. Take a kid who "wants to know if the bike can pop wheelies" and give him a 250, or give him a 1000cc bike, bet which one gets him killed faster.

I miss dude, but he gets all of the blame. He promised to take a riding course, he didn't. He promised not to get the bike, he did. Not only did he get the R6, but he got it and didn't say anything to us, until much later. Do you know how he stopped it the first time? He laid it down in his neighbor's hedges. The Ninja 5 was out of the question for him. To run with the clubs, you've gotta have 6 or better, and that's what he wanted to do. Sadly, 99% of the reason he got that bike was based on looks. I've always shied away from Yammys, because they can be wheelie monsters. Outside of my first Ninja 6, I've been pretty much a Gixxer guy.

back in 1996, i went out and bought myself a brand new kawasaki zx-11... and friends asked me, "why?"

i said, "i've been riding bikes all my life, and it's time to get where i'm going faster."

at the time, motorcycle movies and the current fad were NOT underway... niccas were styling acuras and land rovers-hardly any brothers owned bikes except older harley riders.

then, the movies and rap videos came out, and all the daredevils with it.

that same ninja was modified for the track... equipped with all kinds of shit except nitrous. after a very close call, i said, "fuck it," and gave it up... sold the bike to my cousin for $1600.00, when i could have easily GIVEN it to him for free.

since 1996, 2 friends have met their demise on bikes... and my cousin still blasts mofos with that old ninja, but he too is considering getting rid of it.

i have no regrets... you tend to get more conservative as you age, and i have.

have fun, but please be safe fellas.

its a fact that car vs bike that bike is losing everytime, they call them organ donors for a reason.
