"Dan Gilbert Sees LeBron James As A Runaway Slave" -Jesse Jackson

For the past 2 years the media has been going on on the Free Agent class of 2010. In the past few weeks people on this board and a few IN THIS THREAD were predicting what city HE WAS GOING TO. I don't remember any LEBRONS STAYING IN CLEVELAND threads. Now we're all feeling a certain kinda way that he left?

Fuck outta here.

We ALL KNEW the chances of him going back to Cleveland were slim to none. He didn't sign an extension, and he knew there was no cap space to bring in any other stars.

Seriously, if you have a BAD bitch and yall get into an argument and don't talk for 3/4 weeks and the hood sees her in the streets with the next nigga would u really be shocked?

Farrakhan said in his last speech that Lebron, and other NBA players, are basically going from one plantation to the next; and in a sense he's right. Lebron and crew are seeking out shiny trophies, mega fame and little side business deals; but the money THAT WILL BE MADE OFF ALL 3 OF THEM PLAYING TOGETHER....well...theyll never make even a quarter of that amount.

As for Jesse. He always speaks on things thats "Hot" in the media. I remember when that kid got beat to death on camera here in Chicago Jesse had his ass all on the public buses taking pics and the whole nine. He never did that before the news cameras were around. He basically trying to stay relevant. He wil always be known as the sidekick of a great man...but he'll never be that great Man. Why? Because he's to busy exploiting non-Black peoples adversities (peep the Black & Brown coalition BS) and profiting off stupid Black folks by making them feel like vitciims of the "White man". Same can be said for "Perm Pimp" Al Sharpton.

As for Lebron and the Owner of the Cavs. No matter what anybody says, the fans are in it for loyalty, emotions, etc, but damn near all the owners in the NBA are out to make money first and win Championships second. With that being typed, the owner of the Cavs got what he wanted already...Lebron didnt. All that BS that he posted on the web is just him trying to cater to the angry fans ears, Keep the Heat of his ass (no pun intended...lol) and try to perserve the little money that he stil has coming in.

The only people that should feel disrespected are the Cav fans. Because bottom line is we all can assume that this move was planned out before Lebron woke up the morning of his decision day. And i bet our assumption would be correct. Lebron is a bad actor and in a sense he disrespected the game of basketball by the way he AGREED to handle this whole ordeal. No matter how many titles he wins, the past 2 weeks wil always get brought up for as long as he's relevant.

...a short term win, very short term...long term he screwed himself...if he gets casinos in cleveland, i hope he realizes he'll need money from outside the state of ohio...i'm in ga., why would i be more likely now to go to his business and spend money???...BY MID SEASON AND MIAMI IS ROLLING, HE'LL BE LOOKING LIKE A FOOL THAT LET THE KING GET AWAY...

The thing is, people leave Ohio to gamble. They go to Michigan and other states. He wants that money here. I don't think he expects you cats from GA to some up here.

All I can say is this, people have wanted him to buy the Indians forever. He will spend on a winner.

At the end of the day all we can say is we never viewed an athlete or an owner act like this in front of national media. Shit was like a messy divorce. Again, no need for race to be mentioned.

No one has ever said LeBron didn't have the right to leave. See if the Cavs owner said it was illegal for LeBron to leave, or that he didn't have the right to leave, then you could say he looked at him like a slave.

He said he felt betrayed. Now to betray means that someone you trusted did you dirty. You cannot be betrayed by someone you didn't trust.

No one thinks these rich athletes are slaves. Sports is an industry built upon emotion and loyalty. Why do you think people still go to, watch on TV, or buy gear from teams that suck? Because they are emotionally invested in a team or a player.

If it was just a slave type thing, they'd just go out and get another player. It wouldn't be this emotional reaction.

People in Cleveland feel betrayed because for 7 years, they gave LeBron everything he wanted, let him have input on coaches and personell, let his friends fly on the charter with the team, changed practice times so LeBron and his buddies could attend late night money making parties. Let his family and entourage sit where they wanted in the gym, etc. They felt by showing LeBron love, he would love them back. Niggas do it all the time.

And when the woman you have been going out of your way to please for 7 years dumps you for the next guy and the way you find out about it is the movers show up one day to move her stuff, you mean to tell me you will calmly say, "Well, I don't own her, and this is perfectly within her rights to leave..."?

No, you're going to start calling her all kinds of bitches and whores. You're going to be pissed the fuck off and say (and do) all kinds of crazy shit until the sting passes.

Let them niggas in Cleveland be pissed off, DAMN. Any one of us knows if the best player on our favorite teams just up and left like that we'd be heated - except for front running niggas like Dayne. He'd just go buy a Laker jersey and rock a 1900x1900 Kobe sig.

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:this guy gets it. :yes::cool:

again, no need for race to be mentioned.

...well i never mentioned race, but the analogy to slaves and slaveowners brings race into it....this is america, the 2 combatants are black and white, so race is there, period..i don't know or care if he 's racist or not, his public response was enough to turn me off,no matter what lebron did or said...as a professional businessman and nba owner, he looks weak...he looks like a clown....whatever you think of lebron, he has the future to blaze a new path, and the opportunity to fix all the doubts that people may have about him...i have a feeling that he left the way he did because things were'nt all good between him an gilbert, and since he decided he was leaving to join his boys, why bother with the FAKE kisses and hugs...roll out on your own terms...i'm sure the whole story will eventually reveal itself...

I want to know what did Jesse say that was so imflamatory. I can easily see where the similarities that Jesse presented, and I think it is foolhardy to reduce Jesse as a race baiter when the reality is that they wish topics of race, class, gender etc were swept under the rug or never mentioned, and for oppressed people to side with the oppressors by calling him crazy, a race baiter is saddening.

Of course, the situations between a person who is enslaved & one who isn't is different, but there are elements that can be present in both situations and to use an analogy is a way speaking about the seriousness of a situation.

Dan Gilbert does has this paternalistic attitude regarding LBJ just as the rest of Cleveland who have responded in the manner in which they did. Of course it is easy to disregard the humanity of a professional athlete or entertainer because they make millions, but that does not mean that we as patrons have the right to dictate how one chooses to proceed in their career. Yet we feel they owe us something outside of providing us with their performance on a given night.

Not going to jump on Jesse because I understand the metaphor, but Jesse needs to find better fights. He needs to go find another stripper to march for.

One attention whore speaking up for another

sports is a business, why they catching feelings like a bitch?

you know what i honestly thought you was one of the smart brothers on this board, but with this i see differently...

If you honestly with all your fucking time being on this planet dont see how the white man moves i dont know what to say to you...

Even jim brown spoke out today about dan gilberts comments. They werent racist, but they sure was on the fast track to the jim crow era...

It really pains me that some of you guys really dont see the big picture. Shaq did the same thing with orlando years ago, and there wasnt this much bad press.

Alot of brothers are trying so hard to move towards the elite mainstream that yall are losing all sense of right or wrong

Same thing I was thinking. Management does the exact same thing (keeping employees in the dark) all over this country on the daily. Now the shoe is on the other foot and it's a problem?

exactly...companies , big and small were dropping like flies at the end of 2008, employees had no idea what was up, thinking things were good, or at least ok, and then go to work one day and find the doors locked...completely in the dark...you will receive your final check in the mail...its the way business works, lebron made a business decision for himself after sacrificing 7 years for his hometown, WITH LITTLE HELP, a historically losing franchise and probably an owner he doesn't like or respect....so he bounced.....now the boss is salty because he didn't get a 2 week notice or letter of resignation...somebody tell that fool, lebron didn't need a recommendation to go to miami....

I can understand the fans feeling the loss of Lebron going to Miami, but at the end of the day it was a business decision for him to make. Common sense should have let kats know he was going to announce the decision near the date that he could actually sign with the team he'd chosen. It's no surprise (more than likely) knowing that he was leaving, he chose to keep his cards close to the vest.

I find it somewhat amusing that kats are in here caping up for a billionare owner. Best believe he, and those like him make decisions based upon what is in their, and the shareholders best interest without regard for the average employee. Bottom line is Lebron didn't owe him shit after his contract was up.

Btw, I remember when he had the press conference where he was expected to speak on whether or not the stories were true about firing Mike Brown. He came off as being nonchalant speaking on what they would try to do to re-sign Lebron. I thought it was odd at the time. Most owners in that position let you know off top, they'll do whatever it takes to get their star athlete signed. It would be no surprise to me if they didn't have the best relationship.

if the owner felt that way, why didn't he say something prior to the decision to leave?

why isn't the owner being held accountable for his words, and at least made to support them with some sort of evidence?

Yeah, people are conveniently overlooking that.

Put it like this. Dan Gilbert is a scorned bitch. I don't side with him at all. NOw look at it from this perspective. He let Lebron do what he wanted to do while with the team and when he wanted to do it. What slave owner would do that? I bet most of you who are employed in this thread have shittier bosses than Dan Gilbert. So technically are you a "Slave" also? Unlike LeBron, you can't afford to walk away from your job so technically in "your terms" you are below a slave.

Stupid muthafucka. Comparing million dollar athletes to the horror of slavery. What would this muthafucka have said if Dirk left Cuban? Cuban probably would have went off the deep end also.
Muthafucka shits on a team on national tv and this muthafucka crying about some racial shit. We are our own worst enemy when public relations are concerned. :smh: :smh:

Bro, there's a strong faction of CACS in Dallas & a few on bgol that advocated Dirk leaving Dallas to go play with a contender:smh: So for Dirk, its cool to do because he deserves a winner, but LeBron can't...he has to be loyal.

Somebody holds a special, that almost everybody agreed would be some cold heart shit if he left Cleveland, and Gilbert is supposed to be :D

A lot of the bean pie cats don't understand Gilbert has other shit he needs support for in Cleveland(Casinos and other projects). He sits there and takes that shit like a bitch he loses respect.

And isn't it funny all the white people outside of Ohio are calling him out on that shit. They say shit like "unprofessional" and other shit. They are calling him a big ass baby. No need to bring slavery or race into this.

If you think a black owner would have took being bitch slapped on national tv like that lying down you cats are in never never land.

Hypocrites. Most cats on here lose 200 million plus in a big national fuck you on tv, would have acted the same way. High road my ass. We have never witnessed an epic fuck you on tv like this so what do we use to judge Gilberts reaction.....................slavery? GTFOH

Bingo, its all a game. He has a fan base that was watching his reaction carefully. They were waiting to roast his ass for letting the best thing smoking walk out the door, so he played his hand & made LeBron the bad guy. Above the casinos...he owed every person that spends their money on tickets anger. Real or not.

Shaq did it the right way, he broke hearts...but he didn't drag the shit out. Quick & easy. By the time they got ready for the Olympics...he was outta there:lol: Hell, he still lived there in the off-season...had he dicked them like LBJ, he'd be wanted around those parts.

how does the letter help him?

Because the people who support him, needed to see anger...they needed to know he felt like they felt.

.....bruh, most of us with regular 9-5's are just that, slaves to our jobs, to our employers, been there, done that, after 15 years on the corporate grind...i no longer work for someone, i created my own...we are never being paid our worth, thats just how business works, the employer has the leverage, because there are plenty of people that have the skill that you have at your job but we don't have the options, the leverage, to be able to move on elsewhere to a happier, more lucrative situation, Lebron had it, and exercised it..Lebron has a rare talent, that you, nor I or the average worker possess..but none of that discounts the way Gilbert reacted, when Lebron fulfilled his contract, became a free agent (no longer property of the Cleve Cavaliers) and made a decision for himself and his family...Thats not a scorned bitch, thats an owner that feels that he's owed something in return for what he did for Lebron for 7 years...he wants something in return now for the seven years he gave Lebron the opportunity to be KING, he wants future compensation now off of Lebrons talents, well the system no longer works that way, that was slave/owner days....on another note, when he let Mike Brown go, would it have been OK for Brown to trash him in the press or call him out for mistakes he may have made as owner???

We'll wait on an answer for the question in bold.

the one thing Gilbert might have been correct on was LeBron quitting. yeah I know his stats were okay in the last two games but come on every NBA fan watching that Boston series came away wondering what the fuck was wrong with LeBron. he really did appear to stop trying the last 2 games :smh:

I think the implication is that LeBron knew he was going to Miami so he didn't give 100% against Boston. I mean even at the time commentators were asking what was wrong with LeBron, why didn't he go down fighting etc. everybody deserves to not be 100% but just outright quitting is pretty weak.

Gene you missing the point. What Jesse is saying is that the owner had no real love for Lebron. He only cared about Lebron because he was making him millions. Corporate America is slavery.

...the comparison isn't about athlete and slave....its about slaveowner and NBA owner...Lebron acted as a businessman making a tough business decision for himself, his family and his future...nothing "slave" about that....But Gilbert reacted as if someone stole property from him, and he's due some kind of compensation for his troubles, or his hurt feelings....NOW DO YOU UNDERSTAND THE DIFFERENCE????

I've been had understanding of the comparison, I just dont get the comparison. To me there is no comparison. The only comparison that can be made is the both have the word owner in the title.

Would people have been outraged if Micheal Jordan made these remarks? Dan Gilbert spoke his mind because he felt he was done dirty and I feel like lebron owed dude at least a phone call, and let him know he was about to shit on him and his franchise publicly.Dude is a business man and being shitted on publicly hurts his brand.
