The father from "Good Times" is playing a gay character!

It caught me off guard for a minute. Until i recognized the other gay character was, Stacey Keach. Just a gig for those dudes.

its not that bad though, he plays a macho ex military gay dude lol

Just what i was about to say. People acting like he was playing a full on fairy. The ep was way early in the season but I don't even think they even realized they were gay until years after the fact. I don't really see a problem with it at all.

thats the same dude who was the father in coming to america right?

he seemed a little fruity in that movie, he was mad hype his daughter was dating the prince of zamunda, james earl jones looked at him like he was a faggot and treated him as such

lmaooooo

Whoa! I'm watching that Charlie Sheen show and John Amos is playing a gay character. I'm not homophobic, but he's the last actor I'd think to see in a role like that.

No, this is the last actor you would think will never play a gay.....

Ving needs a new agent. We cant even put all the blame on the skinny-jean generation when you got old heads on display like this:

  • Tranny in "Holiday Heart"
  • Got longstroked by a hillbilly while wearing a ball gag in his mouth in "Pulp Fiction"
  • Standing at a stove naked than a sumbitch and asking Tyrese if he'd like some breakfast in "Baby Boy"
  • The scowling gay guy in "I Pronounce You, Chuck & Larry"

Niggas prolly get paid more money in playin gay assed roles unless they do that shit as a hobby...

Its okay for chicks to play gay cause all us niggas like seeing that on film or IRL...

That Holiday Heart film scared the hell out of me...

...with that said I don't care if an actress or actor plays a gay role or not just don't make it a habit. But that goes for playing a tough guy too much, or a butch, or a pretty boy, stuck up rich girl, the ugly duckling...too much isn't good but if the role pay and the script look good why not...

...it is their job...to a fault.

exactly.
theyre called actors for a reason.
the point is to portray a variety of characters,
preferably characters that are a far stretch from u as a person.

Ving is a Julliard graduate,
and not just an actor, but a thespian.
He's one of the most trained and seasoned actors in hollywood.
Holiday Heart was a hit Off Broadway play which im sure he was familiar with.
The role was a challenge for him as an actor,
and he probably jumped at the chance to do it.
thats what true thespian do.

Uh... the problem is, we have too many people in this society who can't separate fantasy from reality. Hollywood is a very powerful teaching tool to the uninformed.

And with the number of black boys growing up in fatherless homes, what does this tell them about being a man.... that liking your best buddy means you should have a sexual intimate relationship with him too.

I know John Amos did it for the money and the possibility of more work.... but the reality is... you prospective fathers of male sons will now have to explain why this is not the type of behavior you want him to engage in....

Meanwhile, a muthafucka like this

it's not the first time. john amos was a gay man with a white male partner on one of these old sitcoms for a minute.
