Lately, my girl's schedule makes it so I have my 14 month old daughter alone in the mornings before I go to work. I've been held responsible for getting her ready since she is still sleep when she leaves. She has all this hair and I have no clue how to style it.

I searched youtube for some tutorials but all I could find is stuff on styling adults. Have any of your daughter's fathers/husbands been in the situation? How did they learn? Any suggestions? :confused:
 
Yes my man has had to do his little sisters, his daughters and I believe my daughters once.
If she has a head full of hair...1 quick thing you can do to make her look like a little princess:
Brush it all upward and give her a little puff on top like this:
Minus the flowers!

Thanks for the ideas. I have never used a comb in my life and now to have my baby girl in dire need for her hair to be done was very overwhelming. I'm gonna try the first one you suggested until I get parting her hair down pact.

I'm definitely not ready for the inspirational pics though :smh:
 
as crazy as it sounds my dad used to practice on one of our dolls before he tried it out on us

also...there are products made just for children... you can put in her hair even when its damp that detangles it and sets it...you can find it at black beauty supply stores

Update....

I tried doing the hairstyle Onxy suggested but I ran into a BIG problem. My baby's hair is curly as hell. Her texture is similar to her's

With the humidity, it is so curly that it gets tangled up really quick. I've been looking online for some products to help with that. I don't want her to use any of the crap her mother puts in her own hair.:smh:

I have started to get decent with parting her hair, but the combination of her being tender-headed and restless makes it near impossible to do anything time consuming. So that's where I'm at right now. Thanks for the support, ladies...

did u use the detangler?

also do u comb your girl's hair when its wet or dry?

i suggest you style it damp and use the detangler that has a conditioner included in it...let it dry styled on its own and it will look better..u should be ok with curly ponytail(s) but if its real real bad try braids instead

also check out the brand mixed chicks...you can get it on and offline and i heard it does good things for that type of hair

if all else fails take her to a stylist...dont let her put a perm on ur baby's hair...but just go to see if there is any professional advice u could get

and u need to put the fear of God in her like my mom did when it came to sandboxes and dirt....i get my ass whopped if i came home with a head sand or dirt:lol:

yo homie i had my kids by my self for four years you will never get that shit right homie belive me
 
Try putting water and conditioner (try Organix Coconut Milk, it comes in a white bottle and you can get it for cheap at someplace like target, plus it smells really good which she'll like, and it's all natural) in a spray bottle with a little bit of regular extra virgin olive oil that you would cook with. Shake well and spray on her hair so that it's damp but not dripping. Put a little bit (like one finger scoop's worth) or ecostyler olive oil gel (it's natural and can be found at CVS, comes in a container with a green top) in your hands and smooth her hair up into a ponytail or puff. Just like you would tie down your hair to get your waves to pop, tie a scarf or something around her head to help her hair lay down and stay put until it's time to leave the house.

Keeping her hair well moisturized (that's what all the stuff in the spray bottle does) will make it easier to manage and therefore easier to do.

I've been doing my daughter's hair on my visitation weekends since she was about 3 (I was actually looking forward to it!)now 7. She now says says that she likes me to do her hair more than her mother. A little advice: don't look @ it as a chore, look at it as a bonding experience with your daughter. Regardless to how you do it, if you continue to TRY, she will remember it when she grows up. But my daughter has really thick and curly hair (similar to row 1 column 3, but thicker), and with her being somewhat "tender headed", it really makes for a fun time for both of us. The products I use in her hair are Carol's Daughter Healthy Hair Butter and Hair Milk, Karen's Body Beautiful Lavender Vanilla Hair Butter and Lavender Vanilla Hair Milk, and Taliah Waajid Kinky, Wavy Natural Easy Herbal Combout (not all @ the same time). What works for me (and her!) are:
  • Give her things to help her take her mind off of what is going on (cartoons, books, toys, have her pick out different barrettes & ponytail holders, etc.)
  • Section her hair off into small sections, and put a little of the chosen product into the section. Massage it in good and all the way from the roots to the ends.
  • Comb from the ends first, then work your way down to the roots. Make sure you have a tight grip on her hair to help keep any snags from pulling at her scalp (gonna happen but this will lessen the severity of it).
  • Grab a ponytail holder and put it around the base of the newly combed section. Split the hair into 2 sections and pull them apart to get the section tighter.
  • Now either plait (3 sections) or twist (2 sections) her hair. When you get to the end, twist the tip and slap a barrette on it.

I hope this helps. What also helped me is that on my weekends I would do her hair while my mother or sister's watched me and gave me pointers. I now feel confident enough to wash, condition, and blow dry her hair. It's all about OJT - On the Job Training. The more you do it, the better you will get.

And comb her hair EVERY DAY, from the root up!!! Doing so removes the hair that she sheds and makes it A LOT easier than letting 3 or more days pass and then doing it. It's a lot of work, but worth it. Since I have her for the summer, it means some mornings I miss my breakfast or shave becaus I had to do her hair and get her ready for day camp, but she knows it is done because I love her.
