Sony listing PS3 priced from $199, just in time for Playstation Move?
attachment.php

Upon checking Sony's brand new website which showcases all its 3D compatible devices, we were amazed to see that the landing page stated that the PS3 starts from $199.99. Upon clicking the 'banner', we did not see any PS3 priced at $199.99 so there is a chance this could be an error, but it would be a pretty BIG error for Sony's offical 3D website to make (Contrastingly, the older 'blu-ray' compatible page has the PS3 starting from $299.99). Likewise, the PS3 is calling for a price-cut considering the price of the Wii and the arrival of Playstation Move. It seems there is every chance the PS3 may get its own very own budget model without a huge hard drive for this $199.99 price point. Keep reading and click on the thumbnail image for all the proof.

Now here's an even bigger image showcasing the bigger picture (this looks very plausible indeed!):

On a related note. This doesn't appear to be any kind of 'special deal'. For example it states that the home theatre range starts from $549.99 and there is a model there priced at $549.99 inside the link. Moreover, this price-point would make 'sense' for Sony, the PS3 has been out for quite some time, we've heard of a new chip-set coming to life and its competitors both have options for systems at $199.99!

Price is at the bottom of the page.

If this is true it's a good time for consumers who for some reason haven't picked a system yet or are looking for a second system. Microsoft will definately follow. The arcade should have been $99 by now anyway. Once again the Wii will stay at its price which is really sad.

:angry:dam I checked bestbuy, walmart, sonystyle shit still $300 and up. Hopefully they'll make an announcement at E3.

When mine broke in April, first thing my mom said was try to wait for a price drop. Hopefully this is true (but what will they take out this time)

Damn, just came back from the whack ass walmart around my way and that bitch is still $300.

They said they don't know shit about a drop in the price, but then again... these mother fuckers never know shit anyway until the last minute! Guess I gotta wait and see...:smh::smh::smh:

This could be a budget model

t almost seems as if all the big news has dropped before E3 this year - at least in terms of software - but maybe Sony has one final hardware-related ace up its sleeve.

So here's the thing: sources can make mistakes; there can be typos on web pages just as easily as there can be misinformation floating about forums. But when it comes to the official Sony Style page for their 3D promotion, one would have to assume everything is accurate. A reader has pointed us to the bottom right portion of that page, where it lists the PlayStation 3 and a "starting at" price. ...now, as far as we know, there's no such thing as a $199 PS3 and yet, it says very clearly, "Starting At $199." So what's the deal? Could it be an impending special sale of some kind? Or is it possible that Sony is planning a budget version of the PS3 in preparation for the PlayStation Move...? To compare, Microsoft did release the HDD-less Xbox 360 for a relatively cheap price and Sony may do something similar with the PS3, especially when they consider that Move will cost a bit and it will appeal more to casual gamers. They may not care as much about a hard drive and would rather just play around with Move every now and then.

It's a possibility. For the record, we certainly haven't heard anything about a potential price drop and going into this year's E3, it was actually the last thing on our minds. We got the big price cut of $100 in 2009; why should we expect the same treatment less than a year later...?

IMO

both Sony and Microsoft need the price drop to help sell Natal and Move..

craigslist buy like I did mine. Mint condition, 80 gig and only $200 no tax of course. (Still wish it was the backwards compatible one!)

Even if this was true, you know that:

1) Sony probably has no plans to make an official announcement until sometime during E3, and

2) even if they do make an announcement there or now, the price change probably won't take effect until some point in the future.

Honestly, I had to replace my PS3 a few months back, and I was sorely tempted to wait a few more months and hold out for E3. If there's going to be a price drop/cheaper model this year, this is the most likely time that they'd announce it.

Still, it's just as likely that, like many other rumors that float around this time of year, E3 will come and go without Sony announcing a blessed thing.

The E3 gaming expo is next week. And the Federal Communication Commission has revealed that there are new PlayStation 3 models. But should we expect another redesign like the slimmed down PS3? Two new PS3 models (CECH-2501A and CECH-2501B) have been tested by the FCC and certified for both 802.11b/g WiFi and Bluetooth 2.0+EDR. What's more is that there are two new debugging stations for the PS3 (DECH-2500A and DECH-S2500A).

It is worth noting that debug units typically change when there is a change in the chipset. So these new PS3 models probbaly are the same design as the current models, but with new chips. Another major redesign seems unlikely at the moment. Hopefully, we'll find out more at E3.

Looks like it possibly could be true but will this mean more features taken out?

everything you said makes sense.. and sometimes sony is too dumb/narrow minded to see what's in front of them.. while their sales are strong and are catching up to ms with only a 4mill difference. sony has to be aware that they sell well early in the year and mid year and that ms usually catches up and sells strong in the fall/winter.. for sony to have a stronger impact they cant wait until fall to price drop..

lets say move is better than natal.. wont matter since sony cant match ms's marketing.. price dropping early is key right now more than ever..

and with the ps2 going into retirement.. there are a lot of new customers that ms and sony are going to be fighting for

Ive been waiting myself homie. I think this thread was built off of speculation though.

it was.. there is a rumor of a 320gb ps3 coming in october, which would make the 250gb the lower end model. if there is any price drop coming it will be then.
