Rand Paul: No citizenship for
children of illegal immigrants

Lexington Herald-Leader

May 28, 2010

Children born in the U.S. to illegal immigrants should not get citizenship, Republican U.S. Senate nominee Rand Paul told an English-language Russian television channel shortly after his May 18 primary election victory.

The comment, which surfaced online Friday, stirred the pot again in Kentucky's Senate race.

"We're the only country I know that allows people to come in illegally, have a baby, and then that baby becomes a citizen," Paul told RT, a Russian news channel. "And I think that that should stop also."

Paul, a Bowling Green eye surgeon, has previously said every piece of federal legislation should specify its basis in the Constitution, but some observers called Paul’s position on the children of illegal immigrants unconstitutional.

"As his opposition to birthright citizenship indicates, however, he seems quite comfortable contravening the express words of the Constitution," said a posting on thinkprogress.org, voted best liberal blog in one 2006 competition.

Those "express words" are in the 14th Amendment, which says anyone born in the U.S. is a citizen.

The amendment was passed in the wake of the Civil War. In addition to defining citizenship, it says states can't deprive anyone of life, liberty or property without due process, or deny equal protection of the law to anyone.

Let me get this straight:

 • First, Rand Paul hates the Civil Rights Act;

 • Then, Rand Paul hates the American With Disabilities Act; and

 • Now, Rand Paul hates the Constitution.

Whats next ?

For those who may not know, the 14th Amendment provided the first definition of citizenship. At the time of the Amendment, roughly four million slaves stood at the gates of the nation's capitol at the end of the Civil War and forced Congress to define citizenship. Unlike any other ethnic or sexualized minority group, African Americans' emancipation from chattel slavery led to a reformulation of the Constitution. In short, the 14th Amendment is uniquely and inexorably tied to the historical experience of African Americans, who laid the foundations for equality-based jurisprudence.

And Mr. Rand hasn't even been elected yet, and already he has launched two broadsides at African Americans.

I agree with him on this item. If you are here legally for whatever reason and you have a child then citizenship should be extended to that child. But if you sneak across the border, no papers and pop a baby out that should not be an excuse to let the parents and the child stay here. I am sure the intent of the founding fathers was not to extend citizenship to people here illegally but times and methods of transportation have changed since 1776. But it wasn't specifically addressed about illegals. Probably needs to be very soon.

The establishment(Liberals and Neo-cons) is scared of Rand Paul bigtime and they are doing everything in their power to put this man down. This man is running for Senator in Kentucky and not president of the USA and they are treating him as if he is running for president. For those of you who dont know anything about him DO NOT believe what the main stream media says you be judge for yourself go to his site and see where he stands on the issues http://www.randpaul2010.com/issues/. The mainstream media does not make a big deal about how the Neo-Cons did not support him for Republican Senator nomination of Kentucky.....I wonder why .

I don't know why you guys let this obvious white-worshipping racist bait you into supporting his half-baked theories on white supremacy.

The law is clear on this.

To me, a legal immigrant is no different than an illegal immigrant.

A legal immigrant is a white (or pseudo-white) with access to the capital and resources to follow a white-supremacist U.S. immigration process.

An illegal immigrant is a non-white (or poor white) who cannot afford to go through the white-supremacist U.S. immigration process.

If anything, the legal immigrant is the greatest threat to the interests of black people in the U. S.

Some of you guys put up more propaganda than Fox, MSNBC, and CNN combined together :smh:.

Here is Rand Paul's interview on RT Today....

Why don't you stop hiding behind someone else's video and articles and step
up to the plate and demonstrate how the posters you are referring to are
wrong. BTW, its okay that someone is wrong (including you), but I think
those who makes such of statements, without even attempting to back
them up, may be just blowing smoke.

Let us read YOUR WORDS; your arguments; your analysis; and your views.

Waiting . . .

Well I work with legal immigrants. They all pay taxes and fully contribute to society and are working to improve their english. They are not trying to celebrate a holiday like cinco de mayo and trying to force their country's traditions. Yes they honor their traditions but they don't take the attitude that we should here in the US.

(1) You have to kind of ignore some of the pure malarky that Cruise spews.

(2) There are many, many legal immigrants of the variety you described and generally I have nothing but respect for them. On the other hand, what I find troubling is the "Legals" who insist that the "Illegals" be made "Legal" simply because they have managed to evade the law.

(3) What about the 14th Amendment. Does it need to be amended? If so, how? Is amending the Constitution a dangerous proposition? What, if any, dangers that you see in that process?

Just asking

That is my problem with so-called "legal" immigrants.

They think just because they contribute to the on-going crime that is the United States Federal government, they are "entitled" to better treatment and consideration than their "illegal" countrymen.

In other words, the "legals" are more likely to tolerate the injustice, the racism, and the abuse than the "illegal" immigrants.

I don't find United States law legitimate. This so-called constitutional government was created for black people to be in slavery and to deny them their rights once slavery ended.

So, if "illegal" immigrants want to ignore United States law... more power to them.

The real "illegals" are the people who created the United States.
