if your buying from dell, pay attention to the cpu (get the i7), memory, hard drive, and video card during the customization. Dont get any of that extra service crap that they offer

Maybe one day'll venture into that but not now.Is there some kinda book i could look into how to put yogether a computer

I just built a rig for around $650ish using the Maximum PC directions. Nice rig, AMD 955 Black edition, 4GB ram, Geoforce 9500gt (not going to game it). I didn't use their parts list, I went on New Egg and Tiger direct and ordered my own choices, but came out under $700, around $650 and had good components. Then I ordered my Windows 7 via student discount for $29.99 + $14 for the back up DVD:dance:

How much laptop you should buy is only answered after you figure out what you plan to do with it.

Building a laptop is too expensive. However, building a desktop is the only way to go.

i5 or i7 both are fine. both systems look fine. Think about the following:

Don't pay for McAfee. It really sucks. Find someone with Comcast and have them make you an email address if you really want free virus scan. There are plenty of other free options including the ones around here.

AVG free
COMODO
Avast

2GB online backup, really?
backup to USB hard drive at home.
