Ok I was watching this movie After Sex because I saw a lesbo scene with Mila Kunis and Zoe Saldana and of course I had to check it out. :D

Anyway first scene there is a convo that goes something like this...

Girl: So you say men and women are not equal?
Guy: No matter how I explain this I'm going to be an asshole
Girl: Go for it.
Guy: Well it's only acceptable for women to be dependent on someone else. Women can go to school, get a job and become CEO of a company if they want and it's fine. They can also get married and not work a day in their life but it's considered ok because they are homeworkers or domestic engineers. If a guy did that he's considered a bum even if his wife makes enough to support them both. So we are not equal.

I'm paraphrasing of course but it took me back for a minute. I sort of had to agree though. Do you?

I agree...men are natural providers, so it's always been IN US to work. Women, on the other hand, have only really been working for the last 75-100 years, but have been natural nurturers since the beginning of time. The expectations of the male and female role are different...partly b/c of modern society, and partly because they actually are naturally different.

Thats true. Women can depend on a man and its ok. Men cant do that, we so trained to provide that half the time we dont even want help from people.

I guess that's why there are so many deadbeat dads, and so many women working multiple jobs to provide for their children all by themselves.

Not the point of this thread. Actually to be on point with this thread you would have to talk about deadbeat moms but...

See this is about relationships. Not failed relationships. Or one night stands or whatever else you want to categorize it.

Who are extremely rare. Most black children are raised by single mothers, not single daddies (so-called "providers").

Damn ladies I'm sorry. I just thought it was a good conversation piece. Didn't mean to ruffle any feathers. :smh:

No feathers ruffled here. Unfortunately, when we speak in general terms, there is always someone who wants to broach irrelevant subtopics.

I was speaking in terms of the views versus the comments. I thought maybe some of the ladies misunderstood the topic at hand here.

The other stuff is par for the course and a sad distraction from a good topic so I won't go into it anymore.

If the couple can afford it, why not? What is the man wanted to pursue a dream and had to quit work? What if it was a recession and he could not find a job because he possess a different skill set? What if he wanted to be the homemaker: cook, clean, do the dishes, make sure the kids were in bed, etc.

We all know our gender specific roles but that doesn't mean you have to abide by them. If you happy, and your spouse is happy, and no one is suffering why not? Hell if I had a hot bath and dinner every day when I got home, I'd spoil you rotten.

I do believe if you talked to a lot of women individually that they would agree with you on this Melon. It's that group that's the problem. :smh:

Like Tommy Lee said in MIB...The individual is smart it's the people that are stupid.

It might be the group that is the problem, but all it takes is one good example and people might see it's not such a bad idea. If it works for you.

Boy sleeps with 20 girls - Boys will be boys, girl sleeps with 20 boys - she's a ho. The double standards really need to stop.

I call this a double standard not a concept either way it sucks for us. We really have no win. The marriage proposal comes from us and we are expected to be the provider. Our society is full of double standards. Who works the 9 to 5 is one of the worst. This is especially true in light of women now having equal rights and especially true if your a black women.

If 2 people decide upon marriage that union is between just them and the decisions and arraignments are theirs alone. Who the major bread winner doesn't matter. Who makes what or does what should matter to no one but the two involved. As long as the arraignment works for them and they are happy that's all that should matter.

Interesting video - Good thread Andy!
