Bank of America ends overdraft fees on debit cards

Wow. I really didn't think they would do this. First they refinance my mortgage, then they stop overdraft fees. Well, BOA, you've outdone yourself........so far. I still don't trust you.

its been that way for months. i've gon over a few times since summer with the auto-charge to refill my metrocard and never got a fee. thought i was trippin.

EDIT: :( This shit starts in summer. I wasn't getting overdraft fees cuz i was over by less than $5. I had like $4 in that account and then had three $10 debits hit over 5 days last week. Fuckers charged me $35 for each one, then another $35 for an extended overdraft period of 5 days. $140 for covering less than a $30 shortfall. Calling got it reduced to $70 (after talking to a rep, supervisor, then manager). A letter should get me some of the $70 back. Never had a problem w/ them b4. FUCK BANK OF AMERICA.

Hell naaa me either... I wont lie, I used to run shit as a credit on a Tuesday and have my fingers crossed like hell that shit wouldnt hit till after Wednesday... I wonder what their gonna do, cause I know this shit aint outta the goodness of their hearts. Hell in some way, they may be about to piss of/embarrass some people off by declining their cards at the register. But for now, I wanna see what the real fallout is gonna be.:hmm:

Theyre just lime any other bank to me..... an yeah their online banking is tough....I don't know what's a good bank, all commercial banks be on that scavenger shit

why the hell do people overdraft on a debit card ! I could see credit but not debit.

I thought the same thing.

Here, when the account your debit card is linked to has no money your transaction is simply declined. I didn't know that banks gave credit on debit cards, and even typing it looks funny.

That's because all dollars are credit, whether savings, checking, credit card, debit card, investment, retirement, 401k, or paper.

You have learned a lesson in banking.

You make a deposit. You extend credit to the bank. You use a debit card, the bank is extending credit to YOU!

A good bank is your local bank or credit union. I would move all my money there. Also local banks give back to your community and will go the extra mile for your banking and services. Was watching Bill Mahr last week and had Arianna Huffington on the show and she advocated for americans to move all their money to local banks. Besides that point local banks will love you, however the downside is that their ATM are not as prevalent as the big banks.

how can you go over the limit with a debit card. when i swipe my card they put the funds on hold in my account. So if i dont have that much money available the transaction wont go through and if i tried to go make a withdraw that money i debited wont be available.

It's because BOA use deceptive practices to make you overdraft. Lets say you want to pay a bill so you go and make a cash deposit. You then proceed to pay the bill only to find out you've overdrawn on your account. Why? It's because the ((((cash deposit)))) you made isn't available yet even though it shows on the balance. This is just one on many tactics BOA uses to get that extra cash. Even if you overdraft by $1.00 you owe them $30. Legal loansharking.

I made that mistake too, went to the bank to ask for a refund of the overdraft fee, and they said there is nothing that they could do. But had one overdraft fee with Chase Bank, I EMAILED customer service and they took it that same day.

FUCK BOA!!

Don't get it twisted...they ended overdraft fees by simply not lettin you charge more than you have in yur account. But, don't forget about the $35.00 overdraft charge you'll still be faced with if you go over using yur debit card at the ATM...;)

You heard what Arianna said, but did you here what the other dude, who is a financial specialist, said about banking with credit unions? They aren't totally innocent either.
