Why I have been somewhat quiet?

I'm not going to agree with your premise only because I know that there's a lot of progress that civilization has achieved because of well thought out forms of government. The founding principles of this government will, and always be strong.

Is this government with such strong principles the same government that

1. praticed slavery for 400 yrs
2. didn't allow women the vote for 500 yrs
3. had workers working 12hr days 7 days a week
4. praticed genocide against natives
5. dropped a atomic bomb on Japan
6. invaded a sovereign country looking for wmds

We could be here all year talking about how this country has a different set of principals for each class of citizens. What makes this all work is peoples belief that one day the rules will be the same for everyone. May God bless America and Bless their gullible little hearts too.

The first two were only practiced in this country for 100 years (chattel slavery) and 150-160 years (suppression of the female vote). And I have no problem with dropping atomic bombs on Japan. We were at war, they attacked us first, and they and their allies were working on their own atomic weapon and they would not have hesitated to use it on us.
America is not and will never be infallible because men aren't infallible but it's due to the principles America in 2010 is not America 1810.

Principle and religion is a good comparison in that they are customs based loosely on natural laws. If principles were actual natural laws they couldn't be altered by men because laws are immutable they don't change. So when you compare this country's actions to it's principles it's obvious that principles like religions are basically used to instill values and beliefs in the masses that make them less threatening to the status quo.
