The adwords URL I gave out tells you how much the SEARCH VOLUME is for the term. If you join adwords, it will tell you the ACTUAL PRICE RANGE for the keyword term. The search volume tells you what the search traffic is for the keyword.
Spyfu gives you an estimated price range of what people spending on the term. This helps you determine what niche to target
The two must be somewhat similar, if there's a huge gap/difference, find another keyword.
FOR BOTH sites, if there's TOO HIGH a competition for the term, it's a bad choice. Because peoople are SPENDING money to corner that term (that's good) but probably also SEOing the fuck out of that term (that's bad)
You are looking for a happy middle ground where there's interest in the keyword and people are paying top dollar for it but there's not too much competition.
This is where a google search for the term for total # of pages helps.
Another tool you can use is KEYWORDTRACKER'S (do a search) free tool that gives you a KEI --keyword competition index. It's not foolproof but it is another tool to help you in finding the level of competition for a keyword
