The week of DC 2010 announcements continued this morning with one fans have quite simply been waiting for. On the official DCU Blog The Source (dcu.blog.dccomics.com) and in USA Today, the anticipated Return of Bruce Wayne was made official.

Written by current Batman and Robin scribe, and now long-established helmsman of Batman's flagship comics Grant Morrison, the story will see where Bruce Wayne has been since being hit with Darkseid's Omega Sanction eyebeams in Final Crisis #6 (also by Morrison). The character was pronounced dead by the characters of the DCU, with only his protegé and adopted son Tim Drake Wayne, now Red Robin, believing him to still be alive, searching for clues to lead to his return.

The six issue mini-series, beginning in April 2010, will follow Bruce Wayne in a journey through time, trying to find his way back to the present-day Gotham City he calls home. (Now where Have I heard this Plot before? - J. Storm  )

Each issue will feature art by a different art team, with Chris Sprouse handling the first issue (featuring Caveman/Viking Batman), and Frazer Irving handling the second (featuring Witch-hunter Batman). Superstar artist Andy Kubert is doing character designs on the series, as shown here.

In an interview with USA Today (USAToday.com), Morrison said of the series, "[it's] the latest chapter in the long-running, "definitive" Batman epic I've been trying to pull off since 2005, [but] Return has been structured and written to read as a complete story on its own." So readers who haven't been reading Morrison's run with the character for the last several years should still be able to keep up with this series.

He also revealed some of the settings of the series, including the Late-Paleolithic Era (Caveman/Viking Batman), a Pilgrim-era Gotham (Witch-hunter Batman), a Pirate Batman, a "western" style Gotham with Cowboy Batman, and a Noir Private Investigator Batman. Morrison, agian to USAToday.com, calls this story " Bruce Wayne's ultimate challenge — Batman vs. history itself!"

The other artists on the series will be announced soon.

Angel on my shoulder that represents Logic: This sounds like Some Ol Bullshit

Angel on my other shoulder that represents My Inner DC FanBoy:  I CAN'T FUCKING WAIT !!!!

let the battle begin

Not one DC fan I know in my family (about 23 of them)...
Not one DC fan at the comics store - INCLUDING THE OWNER - (about 18 to 40 of them) can say nothing positive about this book @ all.

Mind you the CAP REBORN was just a shit on all of the great writers in the past that made CAP what he is today.

The storyline is so weak and catering to nonsense fanboys that it is sad.

so both dc and marvel are riding the zombie train and now both have one of their icons traveling through time forward trying to get back to the present after dying?

What's next a red solomon grundy?

Green Arrow, Archer Supreme?

Shit is very wack in the big 2. The only main stream book I am reading and collecting is U Spider-Man - After they reveal who the HOOD is...I may drop the book.

I was blessed with some very offbeat books from family and friends this year so I will be good for the next 3 months...Waiting for TWD won't be so bad with these bad boys in my stack!

just started walking dead, on issue 8 so i have a ways to go, this is keeping me entertained while i read the marvel stuff on the side and i just completely dropped/gave up on DC

This same story was actually well done with the Zemo mini Born Better. This story sounds really lame. I think having DIck have the cowl was the best idea in a long time. The parts of the story out of costume are actually interesting.

Agreed.

I was actually reading Batman and Robin with interest until they started dropping info on this nonsense.

and cats wonder why I stay hating on Morrison and Loeb!

Both of their stories failed a long time ago, but, still they push on like it will be an epic to be revered for all ages.

 What is with DC and Marvel? Can't they come up with a better explanation to bring their main guns back. Red Skull HAD Steve Rogers; what does he do? Wants to still his body to ruin his rep - instead of just killing him. Darkseid blasted Bruce Wayne with his Omega Beam; mind you we all know that the Omega Effect can do more than just destroy a person (transportation and all that), but why on earth would he bother doing such a thing to Batman, transporting him throughout various points in time; what's the point?

I've said it before and I've said it again; I was highly disappointed:smh: with that ending in Final Crisis...... I mean WTF was that shit? NO climatic showdown between Superman and Darkseid (if that was it then that was the epitome of Anti-climatic)

Final Crisis was dream and Darksied shot JR.

The way they have him returning sounds corny. Plus it's way too early. Why "kill" the guy for a few months? I would have thought Bruce's return would have something to do with magic or the like.

Plus to top it all off i'm still confused as to when he really died. Didn't he die 2 seperate deaths around the same time?

BTW....
How did Cap come back because I didn't even bother to read it.

Same way Batman is coming back.

Ok, I do remember back during Civil War Cap went to see Baron Zemo and my friend claims that Zemo gave Steve Rogers - something I don't what, to use because Zemo hinted that you might need this.....

Ok, HardcoreLegend, I think Cap has been, somehow traveling through, various realities , and the Red Skull was gonna take over his body to discredit the real Captain AMerica - even though every knew/thought he was dead - :smh:
