Help! Firefox Won't Start. Says It Is Already Running but is not responding. TO open a new window you must first close the existing firefox process or restart your system. I already restarted it twice and I am getting the same message. What is going on? I can't have my computer down when I am on vacation.

Go into task manager and delete the process from there

That's usally the culprit. Sometimes FF will not shut down cleanly and actually continue running in the background.

But make sure to do the hard shut down (End Process) from the Processes Tab in Task Manager.

The Applications tab may not even show FF as active.

YUP

ive had this happen before and SOMETIMES it doesnt even show up on task manager! i usually just slap the fuck out of the side of the monitor then blow some air into the fan vents and everything works out ok :)

this shit happens to me all the time. like people said you either end it through the task manager or for some reason if i wait a few seconds and try to start again it works

i can't believe you had to come to BGOL to learn control alt delete.

Buk shakes his head at you, GOW.

he shakes his head.

:smh:

Revert to megaupload (when posting porn) like you used to and then you will get a better response rate

How come you switched? You still drop heat, but rapidshare sucks unless you have an account

I uninstalled FF then reinstalled it and it seemed to cure my problem with firefox. Just don't uninstall any of your add-ons you'll be asked all of that during the uninstall.

:smh:

I DID control alt delete before I even posted. Shit. I even did a system restore to yesterday. Nothing. I went into processes and I didn't see a firefox.exe or mozilla.exe ; is there something else it could be named or could it be as hsm2448 said and not show up on task manager?

Either way I will try what the first two posters said and Heist and see if that works.

Any luck?

Any luck?

I uninstalled it, rebooted, reinstalled it and the same damned problem. It wasn't in the taskmanager processes, I ran virusscan this morning before I posted the thread. Nothing.

WTF. I like firefox because you can restart after it dies because of an error and go back to your pages that you had open. Shit, even if you are making a thread everything you typed is still there.

It still says it is already running after all I did.:angry::angry:

^^^Ok, now that's some truly kooky shit.

Is there another process using it or depending on it? That could be it.

Maybe try installing a lower version, like 3.5 or up it to 3.6 beta 2 rather than the current version this way it'll force close whatever is running.

I found something about a trojan called Poison Ivy too: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Firefox.exe_always_open

I upgraded from 3.0 to 3.5 on the uninstall/reinstall. If this IS a trojan, how do I deal with that bastard? I have been relatively virus free since I changed from IE to firefox.

One possible other solution:
If restarting the computer didn't help, it may be that Firefox previously exited without deleting the lock file.

1. Restart your computer. After it restarts, don't try to start Firefox.
2. Go to your Firefox profile folder - see How to find your profile.
3. Delete the lock file parent.lock.parentlock
* If you attempt to delete the parent.lock file and receive the error, "Cannot delete parent: The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable", restart the computer and run the error-checking tool Chkdsk (Windows 2000, XP) or ScanDisk (Windows 98, ME)

okay, i take back my head shaking.

Buk unshakes his head.

he UNshakes it.

You're crazy, Buk. Crazy as hell :smh: No, the other way :smh:

Oh, yeah! Wait! They are both going the same way! :smh::smh:

Stop that! :smh::smh: Stop it! :rolleyes::rolleyes: ...:smh::smh:

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

I'll try what you said Heist and get back with you.

Getting this message
Cannot delete parent. The file or directory is either corrupted or unreadable

Yikes. Sounds like something is corrupted troop. Roll back if you can?

If not that, just do a manual wipe.

Go into C: Program Files: Folder
Find the Mozilla/Firefox and just delete the entire directory.
