Buju Banton faces drug conspiracy charges

Buju Banton, the Jamaican reggae star whose anti-gay lyrics have drawn international criticism, is in a federal lockup in Miami, facing drug conspiracy charges.

Drug Enforcement Administration agents say Banton, real name Mark Anthony Myrie, has been in custody since Thursday and will soon be transferred to Tampa, where the U.S. Attorney is charging him with conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute more than five kilos of cocaine.

Banton has homes both in Jamaica and Tamarac.

While legions of dancehall reggae enthusiasts view Banton as one of the most prolific voices of Jamaica's poor masses, critics say he's a gay basher whose lyrics incite violence by calling for attacking and torturing homosexuals.

His song Boom Bye Bye, a dancehall hit released in the 1990s, advocates shooting gays in the head and setting them on fire.

As late as September, Banton's local management told The Miami Herald that the criticism of the star was unwarranted because he had stopped singing the song years ago. The song remains a hit among reggae DJs.

Still, such lyrics have made Banton one of the more controversial reggae artists, with angry gay activists this fall forcing the cancellation of a string of concerts by the artists during a U.S. tour that included a Halloween night concert in Miami.

Recently the firestorm ratched up after the Grammys announced that Banton's album Rasta Got Soul, released earlier this year, was up for an award.

Gay Men of African Descent and the National Black Justice Coalition joined with the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation in a petition drive protesting the nomination.

How exactly did they do that? Somehow the fags run the cocaine biz now?

You have a man's name + sucks in your username and you are asking me about fag business?

:smh:

Anyhow you should be gone in the next 2 days when your trial is up

The Jamaican prime Minister better come out and say something.........

:smh:

Damn Buju. At the very least, he's probably going to lose his ability to travel to and from the states.

It's all a setup, they couldn't stop him when he was on tour for the last couple of months.

The people still came out and supported him.

Now they want to limit his ability to travel by sticking him with this bullshit and probably have him plead to something lesser.

Buju go home and live your life, fuck these fags.....

They should be going after the Catholic church

:smh:

I smell a rat. He is a wealthy man and had no need to be involved in this.

I predict that the case won't stick and that'll be the end of his touring outside of Jamrock; which is what the gay media want

[flash]http://www.youtube.com/v/4BxUZGOVWsA&hl=en_GB&fs=1& [/flash]

To the people who doubt the deviousness that people will go to; look into American history and you will see that they can 'Lee Harvey Oswald' anyone

yeah...that aint enough work for somebody like him to be caught up with...at most its someone he knows

Probably got to someone in his circle and then made some bogus charges. I can hear them now

Look, you stay out of North America and we'll call it quits

They could have easily murdered him. No more touring for him, no more visits to Canada, the States and the Home Ofiice in Britain will refuse entry too

They are doing the best to kill his career

For the record the British government has smeared, murdered and set up people too

That's how they do

Yes it was the GAY mafia who set him up

I was thinking the same thing. Either way it's fucked up. Most they should be able to charge him for is having weed on him to smoke but nothing more.

I am not so sure that he was setup by the gay mafia. I would think that the people with an orchestrated agenda against reggae music would want Buju to keep touring so that they can use him to highlight their "struggle". When Buju met with Gay reps in San Fran a couple of months ago, their demands were so outlandish that you can tell they weren't serious about any compromise. They wanted Buju to hold town hall meetings in Kingston telling people to love gays.
He may just have been setup by the same old "mafia" that's been targeting conscious black people with a following for centuries.

So it's official then:

BUJU IS THEEEE GREATEST (Alive at least)

:dunno::dunno::dunno:

Basically

LoL @ "intent to distribute" like Buju's a mule or something

"rastas" do sell coke, as well as other things. now whether they meet to your standards as to being a "true" rasta, im sure they would tell you that they are. but make no mistake, people who call themselves rasta, do in fact partake in illegality. No one is exempt from practicing unrighteous behavior..rastas included. selling weed in mass is no different.

Illegal according to who?

Once upon a time riding in the front of a bus was illegal too.......

You know when I say rasta what i mean, don't try to get technical.

no..i dont know what you mean, dont try and assume that I or anyone else does. and you dont try and get smart! I know what i'm talking about by first hand experience..you are talking out of books and vicarious information.it is illegal in this country to sell street drugs, rastas do involve themselves in the industry. I hope I didnt shatter your idea of what a "rasta" is. your idealized view of things, clash with what is really happening in the world. you have to get "technical" as you say, because there are many who like to talk about things they have no real world experience in. this is a good way to separate those who talk, and those who do:yes: I know of what i speak

I am talking out of books? Do you know me? Do you know who I am?

you have been here under 15 days and you know me. No real world experience huh?

You are a funny dude, you and your assumptions.

Keep trying to draw boxes to put people into.

Just remember Jesus was crucified for something illegal too.........

stop getting your panties in a bunch homegirl..I dont need to "know" you kid, I am responding to the nonsense you wrote, pretending to know of things that you clearly have no first hand knowledge of. I can see that you are indeed ignorant, who thinks that someone must be around longer than 15 days, in order to decipher nonsense when he sees it:lol: If you had experience in the drug business, rastas from jamaica to gun hill road can illustrate what I pointed out. nothing detracts from the fact that some who consider themselves rasta, indeed deal in illegality. you drew youself in your own box of ignorance on this subject, not I. as for the passage about jesus:rolleyes: this just shows me even more that you are not rooted in anything real as it relates to this topic..you have idealized view of things. and that is ok, but it is not the reality that some of us know first hand. ok now is this the part where you retort by saying something about a 15 day trial membership:yes::lol:

No first hand knowledge huh?

Well then tell me what this assumption is based on?

I'm telling you that you don't know me.

:smh:

and i'm telling you , that you dont know what you are talking about as it relates to the drug business, and the types that engage themselves in it! I've already explained where my thought on this is from, and knowing you means nothing, as what you are writing says it all. some people who consider themselves rasta, sell all types of drugs and live in major cities not the country:lol:. that is the crux of my issue here. instead of jumping from point to point, why tell us what you mean by "rasta", since i'm being too technical..
