HBO Boxing

So on some real shit can we all argue PW was suppose to dominate this fight only to come within an inch of being knocked the fuck out and saved by a decision? worst case the shit should have been a draw. Don't worry PW gonna get some calls now he's looking like dog food right now to a lot of fighters who was duckin now he done gave them the blueprint to knock his ass out.

No we can't. TJ Hervey started a thread saying Martinez was going to be a tough fight for Williams and he was right.

To pat myself on the back, I agreed.

I JUs SAW the Jermaine fight against that Russian Yo do anybody knw how much he got for taken dat fall, that knockout was clearly fake i didn't think he was ineed of money to be taken a dive:eek:

People who really watch and know boxing never expected Williams to dominate this fight.

Martinez was just slept on, so novice fans thought that.

True but it wasn't suppose to look like that? especially the way he dominated Winky.

You're right but PW wasn't suppose to take this type of beating. Its safe to say he isn't good against a good counter puncher.

I can say I was surprised. I thought Williams would put on a good show, not fight for his life. Martinez is good, but I thought Williams output would cancel that shit. The same reason I used to think he would beat Floyd, but now I'm not sure.

Winky's never been an offensive fighter though. Winky is a defensive counter puncher who takes advantage of opponents lack of an ability to hit him flush and lulls in their punch throwing. Also, he's a defensive fighter who stands right in front of you. That fight was perfect for Paul.

Williams throws 100 plus punches per round and never gets tired, so Winky's strengths are weaknesses against a fighter like Paul Williams. Also you have to take into account the amount of time Winky was off before that fight.

Not a Russian, but he's talking about Arthur Abraham (Middle easterner who fights out of Germany).

Don't listen to that shit, nobody threw that fight Jermaine got knocked the fuck out.

Taylor will get dropped by every European fighter before its over.....:(

Damn. Arthur's Armenian. And Taylor threw the fight just as much as Edison threw the fight in his 2nd match with Abraham. King Arthur's the truth. My pick to win the tourney.

Naw, he won't see them again. If he continues in this tournament, he'll be fighting Ward who will smother him. But Jermaine is always strong for 6 rounds so you never know, he could use Wards aggressiveness against him and catch him.

Damn I didn't know Arthur was Armenian, I thought he was Iranian or some shit.

Co sign on the other shit but I still think Dirrell can pull it out, I think that fiasco with Froch will light a fire under old boy.

Kink Arthur's my close second though.

Taylor is scheduled to fight Andre Ward next, and Kessler in the final stage. He won't win any of those fights.

His trainers are a bunch of yes men, and he doesn't learn anything new.

Jermaine "Bad Decisions" Taylor is the EXACT SAME fighter he was back in 2004. No improvements at all.

He should hang them up at this point.

Co-sign except I don't think Taylor is dropping out.

Yeah Germany....my bad dog.

I still hope Dirrell can beat him. I think he might be too strong for him though..

Dirrell can beat him. As you know Arthur is notoriously slow in the start of fights, Dirrell has to take advantage of that and rack up points, forcing Arthur to fight out of a hole.

Dirrell is slick and fast with enough power to not allow Arthur to completely dominate and take him over in the later rounds like he does in most other fights.

I really believe Dirrell will have learned a lot from the Froch fight and will be a much better, hungrier fighter for it. I think that lost (and seeing Ward win a title) may have been the best thing for him.

I still fully expect Dirrell to come out on top of this tournament.

I actually like Dirrell in this fight, thought he beat Froch too. The thing with Abraham, he is a calculated fighter. He takes his time, get the movements, etc. of his fighters down, and then opens up later in the fight once he has them timed. A notoriously slow starter. Dirrell I think will make it harder on him to get his timing down, because he is so unorthodox and fluid. My only issue with Dirrell is he doesn't have a plan B, unlike Ward who showed multiple facets of his fight game against Kessler.

Yeah, I think I know who you are talking about on Real World but it wasn't this Dude...

Yeah the cat on there had the first name Darell, Direll the fighter is actually Andre Direll.

Man look at that fight again he hit his glove come on now they threw the fight

Man look at that fight again he hit his glove come on now they threw the fight

Explain the logic of it then.

Why would you throw a fight when you can potentially go on to earn 10x that or more.

For example, lets say he threw it for 3 million. Had he gone on to win that fight (he was already losing on the scorecards btw which also kills your argument) he would have boosted his value, went on to fight Andre Ward, who just beat the breaks off of Kessler, and had a huge fight (and payday). He then would have went on to fight for even bigger paydays after that. Getting knocked out like that kills those chances.

For what your saying to be true, he would have had to sacrificed anywhere from 10-15 million to make what 3,4 million?:smh:

Instead now we don't even know if he's continuing in the tournament or his career and his name and marketability have taken a substantial hit.

He should hang them up at this point.

Jermain has to get, or should have gotten, new trainers. He tried with Steward but Emmanuel wasn't connecting. He needs people who will work with what he has, people with more experience.
Paul Williams an Kelly Pavlik also may need to find more experienced help as well. Paul's corner took too much time to work on his cut and Pavlik is in the exact same boat at Taylor: his rough skills are good enough for some success but he's in trouble with elite comp.

If Jermain had good people behind him they would have had him fight some easy fights in between the tough fights. It doesn't make sense to put him in there with a Winky Wright when he still has a lot of things he needs to work on.

Jermain has a hard head though. He has this KO mentality. He puts everything on the line early, trying to brawl and knock niggas out. Then after he's zapped out it just a matter of time before he gets hurt.

Pavlik seems to be able to take instructions. He needs to be upgraded as a boxer though.

Paul Williams has a lot of talent, but he needs to learn better defense. I always that his defense was lacking, but it really got exposed in this fight. He needs a new corner team. He might pull a Roy and has very successful career based on his natural gifts, but without some added tools he will reach a point were that won't be enough.

On point on all counts Fam!!!

The issue with Taylor was, he had Olympic-itis, like David Reid did back in the day. He had some talent, but HBO needed a rising star, so he was brought along too soon, given accolades he hadn't earned, and when you are young and getting all that hype, it tends to affect you mentally. I totally believe he lost the second Hopkins fight, but nobody up to that point had gotten that close to even earn a disputed decision to BHop, who was a thorn in HBO's ass...so they assured he would be put in a secondary position in the MW division. Then, he fought Winky tough, who I believe was a good fight for him due to his limited power, and if he was smart, he would have learned from the fight. Pavlik was all wrong because he could punch, something that Taylors people more often than not avoided, and when his chin got checked, because of his inflated self image as a fighter, he still hasn't figured out how to regroup. For instance this Tournament, he needs to back out, regroup, maybe get with a new team, and rebuild himself, both physically and mentally. Just like David Reid, those knockouts might destroy his career...

PW, is a beast, but he also believes his own press clippings. He's not doing anything different, but he needs to realize he needs to adjust his style a little as he moves up in weight. The same punches and style that shook the Sharmba Mitchells and Verno Phillips of the world aren't going to effect the upper echelon of the MW and Jr. MW divisions...we saw that last night. Plus, his penchant for taking two to give one, is gonna cause his lanky ass to get knocked out one day...getting hit hard by a solid MW is much different than getting hit by a WW.,,

Not one disagreeable point. Jermain's too young to give it up but if he keeps doing things the way he has, the decision won't be his for long.

This fight should be a wakeup call to PW. He might not be able to do much about his vulnerability to good counterpuncher, he's an aggressive guy. But he's definitely got to work on his D. He's tough and has a good chin but he took too many clean punches to the head. Just for the sake of his own health, he should learn to cut that out. I did see he put his hands up more when Martinez was popping him with that overhand right, so there's hope that he doesn't just rely on his natural skills.
