Back when Stan was writing shit the only ones coming close to Banner were Reed and Doom. Dude made the most powerful bomb in the world, an indestructible robot, a time-gun, etc, etc.

For years they said that the only thing holding him back from further scientific research was constantly turning into the Hulk and being on the run. Obviously that's no longer a problem.

As for his attitude, it's not actually new. Years ago Doc Samson merged the Banner, Savage Hulk and Gray Hulk's personalities together because he realized that they were all fractions. We'd never actually dealt with the REAL Bruce Banner. The result of that Merger was the Merged Hulk who was insanely confident.

A lot of people think Pak is pulling this shit out of his ass, but his depiction of Hulk and Banner is actually continuing from where Peter David left off.

I can't agree with that. The gamma bomb was a failed project.

Pak is not pulling it out of his ass - He's taking it from the Ultimate U.

The way Banner was talking in the last issue...was not only non-cannon it was derived from too many sources to say this is character progression. It's just what the writer wanted to do period. Not the steps the character would take.

:hmm: ummmm :dunno: call me crazy but - isn't the fact that Bruce Banner turning into the Hulk proof that the gamma bomb - kinda sorta - did work?

The bomb was meant to be more destructive than the atomic/nuclear bomb.

General Ross lost funding and clout in the military because of the failure of it all.

He tried to recover funding and face into a program that would test gamma radiation but none of the test subjects were as successful as Bruce Banner.

So no it was not a success.

There is a "What if" where Bruce Banner did not become The Hulk...they dropped that bomb on Vietnam...and it made 1000 citizens Hulks....So yeah it was a fail. If it was not a fail....General Ross would have no reason to go after The Hulk.

Homie, the Gamma Bomb wasn't a failed project at all. Shield started mass producing them until they had 5,000 laying around. See the Ground Zero storyline.

General Ross was the army's point man for years. He didn't lose clout (and a star) until much later and that was for failing to capture the Hulk.

And if how Banner was talking was derived from many sources, then how could it be non-canon? Like I said, there's no difference between this Banner and the Merged Hulk.

If you're not feeling this direction then that's cool, but it's not being made up, and it's definitely not the Ultimates version. It's the continued progression of the character based on Peter David's run who's regarded as one of the Hul;k's definitive writers.

Would have been nice if this new Hulk would have been around during "Countdown" - Leader and Abomination were running laps on him and as Banner he was never ready...he was lucky in the end to get what he needed to live.

Even with Banner operating at 100% he shouldn't be seeing the Leader. I always felt that the Leader should be the smartest man in the MU, but since no one else uses him he's just stuck as a Hulk villain instead of a major league like Doom.

Co-sign - I thought his whole schtick was his(Leader's) intellect and genuis was supposed to match the Hulk's brute strength.

Just because he called himself the leader don't make him one.
