... slum children die every year as India booms. TWO FUCKING MILLION YEAR! :smh:

Meh. So what. Fuck has that got to do with me? :dunno:

Over on this side of the "civilized world" the impetus for lack of empathy (not to be confused with sympathy) is quite obvious. I get that. From your fancy coffee making iPhones and Blackberries, flying iMacs, $9.99 Walmart microwaves and flat screens ... all this quick and easy stuff our generation is enjoying as a result of those sexy phrases ... "global economic explosion", "emerging markets" ... it's all good n gravy right now, and we may very well escape the inevitable consequences and recoil (shout out to death) but I seriously doubt our children will have that luxury.

Oh, believe me it's gonna happen. It's only a matter of time.

It's good to hear stuff like this for knowledge/awareness sake...

...however, we gotta take care of house first...

Good post Sean.

The sad thing is that this has been happening for years. It is not something that just happened. I guess a certain 'apathy' or ignorance for us here in the western world is very much apparent.

How can I tell you to take care of your children and keep them insides when the street lights come on but I don't know where my children are cause I haven't seen them for two days and they left the three little ignant ones with me?

I'm all for helping the next man, (Lord knows I do this a little too much), but this country is so fucked right now it has no right to preach when it can't practice.

That don't mean I don't feel nothing for these two million and their families though...that's sick

Perhaps your "children" are essentially at the same place my "children" are?
You think this country is fucked up? You have no idea what fucked up is. I'll leave it at that.

And the thread really wasn't started to evoke some sort of passive empathy/sympathy. Without a concerted large scale grassroots effort, which I believe it's safe to say is a tad bit beyond the scope of SOL, really nothing can be done. I'm just highlighting it.

Just observe.

And wait for the recoil.

That is all.

As sympathetic as I would like to be towards those kids in India there are thousands of black children and families in this country who are dying and struggling to live too.

I'm not taking the kids in India lightly but our focus needs to be here with our own. No one is looking out for us so we have to focus on our own.

Charity begins at home. Our global community. We need to stop dismiss this lethargic deluded notion of individuality and societal discreetness. It's going to require an entirely new way of thinking we're really going to live sustainably on this planet.

We can't eat our cake and have it at the same time. We worship globalization and enjoy its fruits. The truth of the matter is that we really don't even give a fuck about our own.

Let's focus on "home". A convenient cop out IMO.
