Im 20 years old and im still living with my parents, and i dont wanna live off them my whole life, I dont wanna goto college because im uneasy about borrowing money, from banks n shit. and have to pay all that interest. So i was thinking about job corp... what do you think?

First I would ask...what are you looking to pursue as a career? What are your goals? The possibilities are endless out there.

Secondly...Fam, you are going to have to establish a solid credit history sooner or later if you plan on becoming a homeowner. Borrowing money and investing in your future shouldn't be seen as a negative...interest rates on student loans are very low anyways. BTW...is this the only reason why you don't want to go to college. If so, I wouldn't let that deter you.

Ask yourself do you honestly have the focus and work ethic? I have had PLENTY of friends in the past that have went into job corps for several different reasons, very few actually accomplish anything there. Im telling you know that there will be hella temptations.. weed and other drugs, liquor, folks rolling from the compound when they arent supposed to and just a general feeling of not giving a fuck. Alot of people that are there are knuckleheads that really dont give a fuck. Whats your background like education wise? Do you have a diploma or GED? What about any criminal charges? Depending on your answers to those the Air Force or another branch would be a good option for you too. I mentioned the AF because they have great career options and most people's fears of enlisting is seeing combat action. The AF mainly provides support during combat. The Army and Marines are who sees the bulk to the action. All are important in their own ways though. Any branch will get you over that hump of focus and discipline though because you wont really have any options. You will also be earning money, learning a trade and still have money to go to college when your term is up. You can do 3 years and still reap nearly all of the benefits of the common 4 year term. Just something to think about. Its good that you are trying to do something regardless which avenue you decide to go with.

I want to do something that i like, and i like working with my hands. most people i know goto college for liberal arts, or some soft skills like that. i dont wanna be 50'000 dollars in debt goin to a 4 year college learning a soft skill. but i argee i'll have to establish a credit history eventually. no avoiding that.

i have a high school diploma, and no criminal history. and thats what im worried about, dealing with the knuckle heads there, because i'll have to live there wit them 24 7. my work ethic isnt too good, but i'll have to develop them eventually, so i thought being away from my bad influences here might help. i never really thought about the airforce, i thought all service members see action. im not into the military life, but that sounds like a good deal all the benefits, i'll check it out.

Don't let other people's fuck ups deter your plans. Just take their mistakes and learn from them. Some of the greatest lessons learned are by looking at people's mistakes. This way...you already know what NOT to do.

But if you like to work with your hands, there are a lot technical schools out there. Do you know anyone that is a field that you may be interested in?

True thats why im trying to make the right decision i dont wanna repeat their mistakes. But thats the thing, most of my friends are bums and locked up and shit, i dont want to end up like that. so i dont have anyone in my fields of interest to talk to.

They definitely do. In my original reply I mentioned that they all are important in their own way. The AF's main role is a lot of support.. radar, logistics, etc..

There nothing to be ashamed of it's a recession, but i'd ask if you have a job first if you do have one then do your parents make you pay rent, the worst feeling to have is that your parents are tired of you being there and they are only allowing you to stay out of sympathy for you.

Jobcore i would not do it only because i've have family in it, and environment is EVERYTHING hard to succeed when 80% of the people around you are knuckleheads.

to be continued...............

College is your best bet bro even community college, had a cousin go to job corp and it seemed to make her worst.

If you go a Military path stay to retirement !!!!!! depending on service (some are 15 years others are 20 years) you can retire at in late 30's or 40's (trust me that is still young).

Nothing like telling the man to kiss your ASS while geting pension checks. Having more control on what type of job u really want to do, all because your bills are paid already by your retirement checks.

Its a good deal if you don't get killed overseas somewhere ;)

Oh and don't marry no chicks looking for a visa or a hoodrat.

Job CORP got some LOST HOOD RATS up in there too. You might go in there wanting to do ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING and LEAVE there a PIMP.
