Trash Business (Give Some Help Brothas)

Ok fellas. I've walked away from my job. Very high paying job nearly 6 figures. Some call me crazy for doing it in this economy, but I have confidence in myself and I know I will succeed in life. Plus I've stashed a few years savings. I stepped away because I have over 100 goals I want to acheive in this lifetime. Time is more important to me than money; therefore I needed to walk away from my job. I have a few ventures I'm going to pursue very soon to kick my new life off. My first venture I'm starting is in the lucrative world of TRASH.

I'm going to start a trash clearing and disposal company. Basically my company will be removing junk from residences or commercial business. I figure it's a low start-up company and with expansion I can employ some cats from my old hood and give them a 2nd start in life since they have served time. For instance, I will eventually turn the business over to my cousin who served 11 years in federal prison for a kingpin charge. He looking for a new start and with that charge sitting on his record it is virtually impossible for him to get a regular 9 to 5. So I'm pretty sure he is eager to have this opportunity with me and to prove himself to society.

I've checked out competition and there is little to none for the type of service I'm focusing on. I have the typical protection equipment you need for daily trash clean up like gloves, safety glasses, boots. I will most likely get a towing trailor soon. I've taken care of the simple things like EIN, business licence. I'm reviewing OSHA laws as far as disposal.

I made this thread because I know there are a lot of knowledgeable brothas on here with business experience and brothas with valuable insight. I would love some suggestions and knowledge from anyone on some ideas I may need to entertain as far as to this venture. I will also let you know my progress. So chime away brothas. All comments are welcomed.

You couldn't have put in for a monster vacation or leave of absence to start this up and pass it over to your cousin when it got crackin?

Not trying to derail. What's done is done. But I've seen cats throw away hundreds of thousands on a gamble: houses in SoCal for a Caribbean restaurant in Texas. Where they have monster steaks.:smh:

This is a good time for a startup though. A lot of cats looking for work right now.

You've done your homework, it seems.

Good deed and good luck.

Major props for having the guts to leave a almost 6 figure job, that takes some serious guts in this economy but good luck to you, if it's gets off the ground and you need help and can pay me a livable wage I'm down if you actually trust me as a person more than just a screen name.

you still here
:hmm:

you may need to start off with two trucks. you have to have a way to separate the good trash from the trash. When i say good trash i mean stuff you can take and recycle for money on top of what you are charging the people you are working for.

Trust me man. I don't live in fear like a lot of people. I've always took chances in life where I fell flat on my face. That's why I'm a trader. LOL I have no kids so if I fall, I fall by myself. I don't see falling as an option. I hate working for others anyway. LOL

So please from this point on no more negativity in my thread about what I should have done career wise. LOL I'm one of those cats who has maintained most of their lives. It's been points in my life where I didn't have a job for 2 to 3 years, but still stayed in the nicer parts of towns without missing a beat. I've had females questioning me where I get loot from because I don't have a job. Hell there was a point in time where AMEX use to shut me off every month because they said I was spending more than I was making. Quick funny story. I called AMEX on time and spoke with a representative to ask her why am I getting shut off each month when supposedly my card is advertised as not having a limit. She flat out asked me "how in the hell do I spend nearly 2k a month and don't have income coming in" I laughed at her because it was funny and I knew she had to be violating some type of rule asking me that. Of course she was a sista. Then I spinned the convo asking her about life in Ft. Lauderdale (One of AMEX locations). I've had friends asking other friends asking where I get loot from and one friend said, "you know, that's a good question". All in all I've figured out the American system. I just need to master it so I can hit millionaire status. People tell me I think, speak and act like a millionaire. Unfortunately I'm not a millionaire, but I finally know the formula to being one; therefore I'm applying it as we speak. Shit I have friends who are taking a hit in this economic crisis, but I sent an email to all my friends telling them if they need financial help I'm loaning money. I've finally come to realize that if I don't fear being broke, I won't be broke. So that's the story of my financial life.

I gotta commend you on your move, that takes alot of guts, especially in today's economic climate....Let the haters talk, but what they lack to understand is, right now is the best time to start a business

Not a bad idea. I will start out with 1 truck for budgeting reasons. I will have to look into get a 2nd truck immediately afterward. I never thought about separating trash like that.

good luck fam I to wanna help my fam that got felonies and can't get a job.

Very best of luck to you.

Thanks fellas.

Thanks man. Now is the best time to start a business.

Do you have a physical commercial location to set up shop? What are you doing about that?

No I don't have a physical commercial location. I plan on just storing my vehicles a remote locations. Eventually I will have a commercial location, but that's not until I generate revenue.

Good luck Big Man. I respect anyone who takes a well-researched leap of faith. I believe that this is the best time to start, as startup costs will be low (If I didn't get hit hard last year in the real-estate downturn I would be with you). If you have the funds to persevere- and I see you have another income-producing hustle- then there is no reason to keep on working for the man.

You can always return to the old way if it doesn't work out.

Man bro that's what i like to hear... Most people wait until they get fired or laid off to start a business normal a disaster but you are going out on top!!!! Props to you brother and i'm glad you understand the importance of stock trading and savings. I'm kinda of the same boat have loss my job a year ago due to being laid off. I'm getting that unemployment money but i have enough in savings from my investments that i can live my same lifestyle for a year straight without any income coming in. Shit feels good don't it. And i love that quote man, which is the realest shit i heard...
I've finally come to realize that if I don't fear being broke, I won't be broke

Your competition is stiff for your business with lots of ISO certified companies. You should aim at crime scene cleaning business. Anyone with criminal record would not be bonded for bigger clients.

Thanks man. Unfortunately returning to the old way is NOT an option. :)

I remember I was on unemployment earlier this year. People thought I was crazy because I told them I could use a break from work and unemployment was like a paid vacation for me. LOL 99.9% of the other workers on my job couldn't afford to be on unemployment and a lot of these dudes were pulling nearly if not 100K a year. I laughed.

Man i never looked at it like that. It is a paid vacation and it's crazy that some people can't afford unemployment. I also think if you live below your means you can focus more on your business also and not worry about the higher cost of living with certain luxuries....

As far as your business that's an excellent idea. Make sure you get into recycling that's a sleeper business. The cost of steel aluminum and copper it's similar to the stock market. Just make sure you have a nice storage and stack those metals up and when the prices are high then sell sell sell...

I would rather build the business myself instead of buying a franchise. That way I can easily sell the business.

Kudos to you for stepping out and good luck.

Heist commented on a thread on something similar to this a few months back.

Foreclosure management.

When you mentioned selling the business do you mean the business buying out your controlling interest or is it your sole intention to have an outside company fold your operation into theirs? Good luck man.

Do your thing, bro. Sounds like you have passion for what you're getting into and you're obviously a smart dude.

God bless your venture.

good luck to you....

with foreclosures as high as they are you should keep busy just on clearing rubbish out of abandoned houses alone.

some things that may help you: craigslist, angieslist and adwords
