Fedor Signs with Strikeforce !

Fedor Emelianenko has signed a multi-fight agreement that will see the world’s No. 1 ranked heavyweight compete for Strikeforce, the promotion announced Monday.

Emelianenko, who became a free agent after Affliction Entertainment canceled its Aug. 1 event two weeks ago, will make his debut on Showtime under a co-promoted Strikeforce/M-1 Global production this fall. Emelianenko was to have faced Josh Barnett at Affliction “Trilogy” on Aug. 1, but Barnett failed a pre-fight test for anabolic steroids and was refused licensure by the California State Athletic Commission.

Emelianenko, along with his promoters and management team M-1 Global, negotiated with the UFC last week, but could not come to an agreement over co-promotion.

"Strikeforce is a top fight promotion that houses some of the greatest fighters in the world," said Emelianenko in a press release. "I am prepared to fight any of them."

Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker told Sherdog.com last week that he plans to match the stoic Russian against the likes of Brett Rogers, Fabricio Werdum and the promotion’s heavyweight champion, Alistair Overeem.

“I think I have four or five opponents for Fedor,” Coker told Sherdog.com in an exclusive video interview last week.

He is his management, he owns a stake in M1.

He says "We want co-promotion, we will take half the risks, we want half profit if there is one." Well no shit, when was the last time the UFC LOST money on a show?

There is nothing in Strikeforce but a terrible Werdum, a roided up Overeem and an unproven Rogers. Yeah he knocked out glass-jaw Arlovski, but people seem to forget he was having problems with that other scrub Black dude with dreads.

Fedor is afraid. I'm sorry. Come fight Brock. The UFC offer was the best, he even admitted it. They caved on EVERYTHING. Fuck these Russians. No matter his next fight, he will drop from P4P and HW. Right now? Brock is the best. I thought this nigga had heart. Russian mafia management.

Fedor can't draw anymore than 100K PPVs. He's not a draw. He's useless without the UFC marketing. I hope the UFC runs counter-programming against every Fedor show. I used to think that one major MMA organization was bad for MMA, now I think that it is for the best. I'd rather see one major MMA org and then have smaller feeder leagues.

M-1 and Fedor is like Spaulding going to the Lakers and the Staples Center and saying "Well, I made the best basketball in the world, and you can use it, but only if we can put our name on the court and get half the profits."
