I said I don't see any reason for the arrest other than Gates running his big mouth, which means that I think the cop got a little vindictive after hearing Gates' diatribe.

yet you speculate that Gates is playing the race card.

After listening to Gates tell his story he comes off like a snobbish cat who wants you to know what he has, I believe he threw down the race card unnecessarily, the cop just got pissed at Gates for his mouth not his race.

And we are all speculating because none of us were inside that house when the incident took place.

The cop was beeing an ass by arrest ol boy. That "Im the police" attitude must have kicked in. I'm thinking he tried to covering his ass(lied in his report)after he found out who he was.

after listening to the tape you can see that his story doesn't sync up to what he wrote in the report.

Excerpt from Officer James Crowley's Police Report:

When I arrived at *** Ware Street I radioed ECC and asked that they hve the caller meet me at the front door to this residence. I as told that the caller was already outside. As I was getting this information, I climbed the porch stairs toward the front door.

As I reached the door, a female voice called out to me. I turned and looked in the direction of the voice and observed a white female, later identified as Lucia Whalen. Whalen, who was standing on the sidewalk in front of the residence, held a wireless telehone in her hand and told me that it was she who called.

<SPAN style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #ffff00">She went on to tell me that she observed white appeared to be two black males with backpacks on the porch of *** Ware Street</span>. She told me that her suspicions were aroused when she observed one of the men wedging his shoulder into the door as if he was trying to force entry.


Since I was the only police office ron the location and had my back ot the fron tdoor as I spoke wit her, I asked that she wait for other responding officers whle I investigated further."​

However, Whalen's attorney, Wendy Murphy, said Whalen is devastated by media reports suggesting she called police because she saw that Gates -- who was attempting to enter his own house after being locked out -- was black, The Boston Globe reported Monday. The arresting officer, Sgt. James Crowley, filed a report saying Whalen had told him she saw "what appeared to be two black males with backpacks" but an <SPAN style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #ffff00"> attorney for Whalen said Monday she did not tell Crowley anything about the race of the men she saw and never said the word "backpacks."</span>
