Anybody Remember Foster Sylvers Compared to Michael Jackson?

peace

"BoogieFever, Boogie Down!":lol::yes:

They were like the Disco Jacksons who also rocked blowouts.

I think he and/or his brothers did the voices for the J5 cartoon.

Sad because I STILL thought that was Mike from the song, tone and timbre of his voice.

Thanks for embedding the videos for me. I must learn to do that. Yes, unfortunately Foster Sylvers is a registered sex offender. I hope he got that taken care of.

Peace.:dance::dance::dance:

I COULDNT GET NO ACTION
CAUSE ALL YALL THOUGHT YOU WERE GONNA WAIT FOR CATS LIKE HIM.:hmm::lol:

yeah i remember the song...my brother had to explain to me how their songs were inferior to the "REAL" Jacksons.

and i'm just shy of 40 now.

man, the 70's were a whole different world.

Foster started his own group, Hy-Tech, in 1989 but two CDs went relatively unnoticed, as did a solo MP3 CD in 1998 called "Foster Vs. Foster."

He and his big brother, Leon both became killer bass players! Last I heard Foster was into religion. Leon became a mega producer who wrote and produced hits for The Whispers, Shalamar and Dynasty. He worked with Teddy Riley for a while. Not sure what he's up to now.

The fuck!! I always thought this was the Jackson 5!!!

I always tried to find this goddamn song --- no wonder I couldn't. Shit. I was looking for the wrong band.

Yeah they had 1 or 2 hits I think.

Yeah, they had two hits, "Boogie Fever" and "Hot Line".

My fifth grade class played guitar but our music teacher was White and had us playing songs like "Rhinestone Cowboy" by Glen Campbell and "Crocodile Rock" by Elton John.

We were a Black/Latino class so we wanted something with more flavor.

The class chose the big hit at the time of "Hot Line".

Those were the dayz!

Funny thing is now one of those people who was in the class with me, David Frasier, went on to write music for and sing with Hezekiah Walker.

If any of ya'll know gospel, he wrote the Hezekiah Walker hit "I Need You To Survive".

Just managed to link back up with him on Facebook.

Gotta love the internet!

One more hit...High School Dance.

I still have that 45 in my old record collection. I was a little kid, but I remember my older siblings dancing to this!

I have NEVER heard that song before, LOL!

I did know "Misdemeanor" by Foster.

Where did ya'll live?

Your older siblings must've been some real Soul Train wannabees, LOL!

Edit: Reading about them on Wikipedia they had a few earlier hits as well, I guess I was too young to remember!

"Boogie Fever" was #1 on Billboard going double platinum and "Hot Line" was on their next album and went to #3.

"High School Dance" was a top ten song aimed at the cheerleader set.

I guess I was too young too know or remember it!

Yeah, I have this song on my IPOD!!:dance::dance: I love old school. If he was not a young black girls dream man, I probably would not know the group either. Glad to oblige.:dance::dance:

I realized as I grew up and got deeper into music that we didn't hear a lot of stuff here in NYC for some reason.

I would go to North Carolina for the summer and hear some new music, come back home and never heard them again!

I added to my post above that this song was a top ten song while "Hot Line" was #3 from the same album.

I have absolutely no recollection of that song!

Only thing I can think of is that it didn't get a lot of play here in NYC.

Cats were pretty deep in the industry - Jerry Butler (The Iceman), Janet Jackson, The Tavares, Evelyn 'Champagne' King.
Come on - I know you remember "Right On" magazine.

Foster Sylvers was born in 1962 in Memphis, Tennessee.

He comes from a large and successful family and is remembered by Soul fans for his 'rare groove' release 'Misdemeanor', which was a top ten hit.

The song was written by his brother Leon Sylvers III and produced by Jerry Peters.

Foster was later to sing the lead vocals on the family group's songs 'Boogie Fever' and 'Cotton Candy'.

He also co-wrote and produced Janet Jackson's song 'Come Give Your Love to Me'.

That song reached number 17 on the R & B charts in early 1983.

The Sylvers were originally known as the Little Angels, supervised by their mother, Shirley Sylvers.

Under that banner, the group had appeared on television alongside celebrities such as Groucho Marx, Dinah Shore, Mike Douglas, Spike Jones, and Danny Thomas.

The group had also toured with Johnny Mathis and the late Ray Charles.

After moving to New York and later Los Angeles, the Sylvers were signed to MGM Records subsidiary Pride Records.

Their first hits were produced by Jerry Butler.

Fosters ' Misdemeanor' was followed-up by a cover of Dee Clark's 1959 hit 'Hey Little Girl.'

That song reached number 63 on the R & B charts late in 1973.

Foster also modeled at the time appearing in issues of Right On! and Black Stars.

The drummer Harvey Mason appears on Fosters first album.

The follow up album, 'Foster Sylvers Featuring Pat & Angie', was released the following year.

The album included a cover of the McCoys' 'Hang on Sloopy' b/w 'Na Na Goodbye'.

Larkin Arnold, vice president of Capitol Records, suggested that Freddie Perren (Tavares etc.) worked with the family group.

Freddie produced the two successful singles in 'Boogie Fever' (number one R & B) and 'Hot Line' (number three R & B in 1976).

This was followed by 'High School Dance' (number six R & B).

In 1978, Foster recorded another solo outing entitled 'Foster Sylvers' for the Capitol imprint.

The album included versions of Elvis Presley's 'Don't Be Cruel' and a cover of Frankie Lyman's 'Goody, Goody'.

A single entitled 'I'll See You in My Dreams' was also released.

Foster then moved from performing and took on a more songwriting, production and instrumentalist role regarding various projects.

These included Dynasty's album 'Your Piece of the Rock' and Evelyn 'Champagne' King's 'Shake Down'.

He also co-wrote the Sylvers 'Don't Stop Get Off' from their Casablanca Records LP 'Forever Yours'.

Foster then recorded two albums under the group name Foster Sylvers & Hy-Tech.

These were 1987's 'Plain & Simple' for EMI America and 1990's 'Prime Time' for A & M.

'Misdemeanor' has been sampled by several hip hop acts such as the D.O.C.'s, 'It's Funky Enough'.
