Why are African-Americans way behind broadband adoption?


Take a look at this recent demographic data from the Pew Internet non-
profit research group. This image is from a recent survey they just
released this week.

The most startling stastistic to me was that
African-Americans are trending behind the average when it comes to
broadband use. The numbers are going backwards as other ethnicities
are going upwards. Why?, Where is the disconnect? The survey
interviewed over 2,200 ppl from different races & economic status. I
have a meeting scheduled with the author Mr. Horrigan & will have him
on one of my shows to help uncover the reasons for the disparity. What
are your thoughts? Cultural differences? Economic barriers? & should
the Gov't be doing more to increase broadband adoption? Share your
thoughts in the comments I want to hear from you

yeh i know folks still on dial-up. they only do email and a lil research.
i also know folks with computers who don't have any internet service.
for some there is no need or want for it.

Don't know about this my parents even have broadband (which is funny they barely check their email)
 
Poorer communities will always lag behind trends. In fact I'm quicker to use my phone to check my Bank account, email or get driving directions....

Everytime something happens being poor comes up. Either that or racism. Negronation,kefta or someone will bring it up. I know people from other countries who come over and do well. Stay on topic. Don't try your usual tricks of ranting about the ghetto and poor Pookie its not his fault (You pass the buck}.

Keep wondering I don't have dial up. I just choose to do the right thing as a consumer and buy blu-ray movies, video games, cd's legally.

Just because I on't believe its' right for me to take content without paying for it something is wrong. You kats love to think you are getting stuff for free. You think you getting over when you are really losing. Go play stick ball and simmer down boy.

Everything is going good son. You want something else to gossip about. :lol: You run the risk of getting caught downloading music and movies content you did not pay for. I avoid all that and just buy the blu-ray movies, music cds' and video games I want legally. I've been buying from the big box stores forever why stop now. I like opening the music cds' (looking inside the album cover), opening the blu-ray movie box and ripping the plastic off Tiger Woods Golf, Grand Theft Auto, NBA Live and NBA 2K and other games.

I remember going to the local music store with my fam and seeing them buy an album. That is a tradition as a fan of music. The same feeling just crossed over into buying video games and movies.

When You download an album that takes away the experience as a fan of music, movies and video games.
 
I can understand that.

Dial-up is free in many cities in the U.S.

I know plenty of people who just use the internet for email check only. I mean - that's it. They don't download. They don't watch vids. They check they email - organize their day and log off. So they don't see a benefit from going with broadband.

In NYC - most ppl not on broadband use www.metconnect.com
