Good point, women seem to have a harder time cutting to make weight than men. It's unfortunate for the sport that Carano has gotten passes in her last few fights simply because she is the biggest name in women's mma. I would like to see some other ladies step up and prove that women have a place in the sport because the ones I've seen thus far are, for the most part, garbage.

The funny thing about getting choked out is that you mentally lose time. When you wake up, 5 seconds later, you literally don't know where you are, or what is happening, it can take 5-10 minutes to get your bearings. Then you are mentally slow all day.

I suppose that can't be a good sign for the brain.

Its the pressure from the radius or ulna on the carotid artery that causes the blackout...and eventually, if continued pressure is applied, seizure -> stroke -> death... note his eyes rolling back. Tucking your hand behind the person's head is the way it is usually taught, b/c that way make is much much harder to defend once it is locked in. With the hand on top of the head the guy may have a chance to grab that arm and pull it off, allowing him to grab the arm around his neck and get some space, or possibly pull it off altogether. I guess technically it is correct if you are able to cut off the bloodflow to both arteries rendering the person unconscious.

Ive seen guys do that choke with just he one arm around the neck and the other hand grabbing the hand, old school wrestling sleeper hold style.



The main point is that the choke is very easy to learn, and a girl like cyborg can easily and quickly choke a man unconscious.

It is relatively safe to do if you do it right. I think it takes close to 3 minutes with no blood to the brain to cause death.
