For Smokers on the board...How many have tried to stop?

I started smoking when I was a senior in high school at 17. Just a cig here and there but not heavy. Then it got heavy when I went to college going back and forth to cigs to black and milds and also marijuana. Im 33 now and know if I dont stop now it will kill me in my 40's. I tried to stop over several times but stress, drinking alcohol, and seeing other's smoke keeps me going back. How many timed have you tried to quit and if you actually did what helped you? I have never tried that patch shit.

just gotta have will power and think about all the money you would be saving from not buying expensive ass ciggarrettes

I'm not a smoker myself these days, although I used to smoke bud like a chimney back in the day. I will tell you to be careful though. One of my ex-co workers just recently passed away from lung cancer. I believe he was 41. He would smokes 3-5 packs daily. He'd always refer to em as "another nail for the coffin..."

Obviously he knew what he was getting himself into, but if you don't wanna end up like that, I suggest you take a look in the mirror. My advice if you really tryna kick the habit, is find something else you in love with, and focus everything you got onto that.

It'll do wonders for your health, and your body will thank you later.

Clean body, clean mind, clean soul.

Good luck.

it's all in the mind, the weaker your mind is....the harder it will be to stop.

C/S. I smoked Newports for 10 years then quit cold turkey and dont smoke cigs anymore. I have had 1 here and their when I was super stressed but havent smoked one in over a year and a half.

Never pick up the cigs, but I smoke dem greens been trying to

quit, shit is hard but if you consider the money save the

option of quiting is the most economic thing you could do

stop a wastful habbit

i smoked for about 7 years and stopped cold turkey. i started with black and milds and "graduated" to newports.

for me to stop smoking though i had to completely stop drinking. i stopped drinking for about a year and stopped smoking at the same time.

when i felt i was strong enough to not want to smoke while i was drunk i started drinking again. sure enough i didn't want to smoke.

actually when i stopped i replaced the cravings with food. i should have replaced it with exercise. my advice is to replace it with exercise. just do some push ups if you have an urge and start a regular workout.

now i haven't smoked but maybe 3 pulls (drags) in the last 3 and a half years

Its a habit you have formed over the years... The previous responses are accurate... Try a substitute like candy etc... I'm sure there is plenty of shit on the market you can purchase... They way I stopped smoking was to gradually stop... Just cut down to the point of no smoking...

I went cold turkey on the mary jane. Got tired of mofos swear they shit was that FIYAH, when they shit was some homegrown nasty shit. Saved dough in the process. Now black and milds are my weakness. When I wake up, before I go to sleep, takin a shit, after eating, djing, and while I'm driving I have to have one. When I say that Im not going to buy any I end up getting a pack or buying just one. Now these muthafuckers are like 3.85 a pack and Im getting to the point where I want to stop but it's so hard!

I stopped for a year once and in order to do so I had to stop drinking and drinking coffee too and then after a year decided it was too boring and had to go out to business dinner and had wine and then bummed a cig and damn that shit was good and I was like why did I quit? I just try to keep it in check and have them with drinks/coffee and a digestive one after a big meal but not chain smoke

I Just quit 21 days ago after 22 years. It's not easy, but you have to remember why you are quitting. I quit cold turkey, and it's not the first time that I tried to quit. To me, using the patch and gum only reminded me that i have a problem. But when I quit cold turkey, I am reminded that I am doing something about it. As a substitute for the cravings I ate a lot of oranges and drank a lot of water. You have to find something to replace the hand to mouth movement associated with smoking. I realized the cravings had stopped two days ago, so you know it won't last long.

It takes 21 days to form a habit. If you know that you can stop smoking for 21 days for yourself, then you know you can quit. Only you can make you succeed.

I used to be a big black and milds smoker( about four packs a day ) until I came down with pneumonia and almost died. I haven't touched them since I got out of the hospital. trust me fam you don't want to wake up like this

missing part of your lung. after that incident it was easy as hell to stop........................

Four packs a day fam? WTF? I only smoke about 1 pack if that a day. When I was smoking weed I would hit the weed and then smoke a mild at the same time. The mild was a chaser....Four packs? damn....

I can stop anytime I want to. I aint smoked in 2weeks.

I smoke nothing but purp and kush.

Its all in your mind. Instead of picking up a blunt, I pick up my MPC.

I will probably get back at it in the next 3 weeks.

I smoke so much, if I don't take breaks, I will waste my money, because my tolerance is so high.

Blunt of purp to the head is nothing for me. 3-4 Blunts of Purp or Kush for the day is nothing!

yea mayne. the last six months before I went in I'd gotten up to four packs of them shits a day. smoked a pack during the day and killed at least two when I got home. and if I went out it was even more. smoking was like breathing for me back then. relaxing at home wasn't the same if I didn't have one. I couldn't get a decent buzz when I went out drinking if I wasn't smoking. It had gotten pretty serious. that two months in the hospital is the worst possible wake up call you can get. needless to say I got the message............................

I've given up for 4 years now. Went cold turkey. Don't get me wrong, it was hard at the beginning. Took it one day at a time. I believe it was around the 4 - 6 week mark that I found that my cravings were gone.

I also gave up for a while on the alcohol and told my friends that I've decided to give up as well. That was a major factor for me.

I was a pack a day smoker for years. I quit 15 years ago and never looked back.

What I figured out in all my attempts and listening to people is that everybody has different motivation levels to quit. Some could use a patch and kill it but others could handle the uptick in the amount of nicotine from the patch and a cigarette so the patch won't do shit for 'em.

I tried the cigarette holder thing that you crank back each week the amount of air to smoke ratios to get less nicotine. Nice idea but that didn't work. Tried gums and that silver nitrate shit. Didn't work either. Even tried to smoke them nasty ass Benson and Hedges my uncle smoked but them things were hard to smoke.

What worked for me was to keep a pack of cigs on me and go cold turkey. Now that might sound like temptation on top of that need to smoke but for me it was easier to fight the urge to smoke when I had em close to me rather than leaving them in the house or knowing a store was nearby. After 3 days, I left them home. After a week, I felt I could do it and tossed them out.

I'm on day 12 right now...it aint much, but 12 days with them is GREAT! Try Welbutrin...that shit works. Then after you get your meds, you gotta wanna stop...I tried 3 times before I got this far.

I never been a cigarette smoker, but I have gotten to the point where I can stop smoking weed whenever I want to. I have smoked once in the last two months and that was just a couple of pulls on the kush. I have been smoking off and on for damn near 7 years and have always been able to stop when I wanted to or had to. It's really just a mind thing. Cigs are different I guess since they put shit in them that makes you addicted, but they are nasty as fuck :puke::smh::puke:

I"m not a smoker, but if I was, I'd be willing to Put all my money on Chantix. My mom dukes smoke for literally 35 years before quitting in January. Hasn't had a cigarette since.

I was actually going to post a thread but I found yours first....

Here's the breakdown..

I started at 17 very light somewhat like you maybe.. 18-27 them damn blacks took over and I didn't really think I could stop. Through this whole process I smoked weed too. Trips to Jamaica and all, yes nigga, I burned it all the way down!! :smh: Then it happened, I got news that wifey was pregnant and it made me realize I have more than enough reason to want to continue being on this earth. So Dec 29th, 2008 was my last smoke and wifey bought me the patch Target brand. I actually managed to get myself down to 2 blacks a day one month prior to quitting, so the second step patch was what I needed! I suggest you cut down before actually wrapping it up!! ;)This is how my first week went and I tell you no lie bruh.... In the evening I'd smoke a joint, take a shower, put a patch on, drink a beer, get on BGOL, eat, take my ass to sleep, then repeat the next day. I did this for 4 days straight and realized the patch was a mind thing more than the answer. That shit gave me headaches and made me dizzy often too. So day 5, I said the hell with the patch and managed the rest of my routine. By the end of the 2nd week I ran out of weed and was smoking half a joint per day right before completely running out. By the thrid week, I was out of weed and beer, and pretty much hyped myself up with the success of knowing I hadn't smoked a Black in weeks so why start again. The days started flying by, and the craving stopped after 21 days. (Which is the amount of time it takes to break any habit with focus!;))I didn't make it through the 2 step package and never had to use the last package step 3! Now its been nearly 5 months since I smoked a black, and 4 1/2 since I smoked weed! Though I still drink here and there, drinking is not as good without a black therefore that shit ain't running nothing either.

Currently a 12 pack of Miller Highlife last 2 weeks in my house!
I was given weed months ago and I never even smoked it!
I can't stand the smell of tobacco anymore!
Now a nigga can breathe again!
I won!!
You can too!!

So defeat yourself and use your willpower!

Its life or death, you decide! I had to make myself realize what I was living for! Also as for starting the process like I did....YOU MUST STOP THE SMOKE BREAKS AT WORK AND THE SMOKING IN YOUR RIDE!! WHICH SHOULD LEAVE YOU TO SMOKE ONLY AFTER EATING!! ITS WORTH A SHOT HOMIE!!

btw don't blow your money on expensive products because its a chance they can make you sick as the meds tend to be stronger! Cut back so you can miss the step 1 process which is usually around 6 weeks alone!!

listen to this advice

i tried many times and failed. tried a few weeks ago couldnt, so i started smoking less than my pack a day, ;like 5-7 a day but now im back to almost a pack a day. they should be illegal.

Props to everyone trying to or has quit smoking.
I know how hard that shit is.
I'm going to check out the nicorette gum or the lozenges.

These fucking cigs, man....wish I had never started. Luckily, I can go without weed or alcohol. Those are two things I can stop doing for months or longer. But the cigs...I'll keep trying to quit til I get it right. And it wont be long because smokes are damn near $7 bucks here in Houston. This is some bull-ass-shit! But...it may be just the motivation I needed.
