i downloaded every season of the wire from a torrent, in HD (for the seasons that had it).

The point im tried to make is that with the WD-Tv its very portable and when u gotta erase shows off your dvr to make room for new programming u could used this to keep them and take anywhere.

true, i may look into that soon.

I installed it. It seems to lag a bit when starting an avi. hopefully the final release of the latest firmware will fix this. Love the fact that I see artwork/posters in the Movie file folders.

yeah, it started a little faster than before though. I like the artwork view as well. my hd still takes about a minute to get recognized.

I really didn't notice a difference. Did you update the firmware last week and update it again today? Is the release thats on WD site the second beta version? I downloaded a Beta version last week i think and installed it. Then i saw that it was on the WDTV main page and downloaded the firmware again, but I wasn't sure if it was the second beta version. whats on wdc.com right now? :confused:

the 2nd beta version is on their site now. the first one didnt have a press release, it was really just a beta for AVS members. prior to this new beta, my 1tb would take about 3 minutes to recognize and another minute to scan. now it takes about a minute to recognize and about 15 seconds to scan.

:cool: I can't wait till hey release the final version. Damn 3 minutes? I have a Passport HD only 250 and it takes about a minute to scan, older beta and newer one. It gets annoying but oh well, they are beta vesions. Thanks.

my wd 250 didnt take anytime to scan. its booted right up. but that was before these two betas were released. i plugged that 250gb in again and it took about a minute. final version should be out soon.

FROM ANOTHER FORUM

here is the immediate items noticed on new beta firmware 1.02.3:

they added 1080p 23 to the list of resolutions...so now there is 4 1080p options!! lol however when i chose 1080p 23...and the new screen pooped up to confirm selection... there was a noticeable change in picture...in a NOT GOOD kind of way,,,the picture was grainy..and when i went back to thumbnail screen..you could really tell the difference... anyways, played a movie and it did not stutter whatsoever...but the quakity was not up to normal par at all...not even close!
switched it to 1080p 24 and played 1080p ironman,dark knight, and Irobot.. played each one for about 10 minutes straight... picture was BEAUTIFUL with NO STUTTER!! DTS audio playback was spot on like always for me....and unless i was imagining things...it sounded even better than ever?? lol

heres the best part!! Navigation and playback are VERY NOTICEABLY FASTER!!! with the last firmware...when a file was played...it took a few seconds to show anything... it is now INSTANT!!! even better....when scrolling thru movies in thumbnail view...movement to another file was INSTANT... there has always been a small delay...especially when scrolling to another file, and the page has to change...NOT ANYMORE! i scrolled thru one of my drives..with 360 MKVS at 920GB's... i scrolled thru all 360 without a SINGLE PAUSE or DELAY!! I then went to another drive... and went into my full 1080p movies.. I pressed play on one...movie started immediately... I then hit next..and the next movie started playing with picture and audio in about 2 seconds!! i hit next thru about 20 movies, with every one of them starting quickly...

got one of these last week sometime.. only thing im not diggin is the delay while navigating.. i hit play or next and there is about a damn near 10 second pause in between.. its a bit of a pain. Im gonna try to upgrade the firmware tommorow and see if that helps any

get the new firmware update

How do u get art work and posters to show on the wd or how to put in the movie files?

put the jpg file in the folder with the movie. mines are 240 x 240, and they show good. Not sure how big the limit is, but they can be bigger than 240 x 240 to cover the entire box (see pics below)

oh, and once you plug the hd back in, you have to do a reset on the wd (thru settings) in order to get the new jpgs to show.

for the true geeks on the board,

there are some "unofficial" firmware hacks available for use (at your own risk) if you want some extra features which include:

* external dvd drive capability with cd-manager-0.7
* ext2 & ext3 filesystem support
* ext2 & ext3 hotplugging
* mounting of WDTV Optware package (if available) at boot
* mounting of app bin packs (if available) at boot
* mounting of OSD overlay (if available) at boot
* limited USB Ethernet support
* IP via DHCP (by default, configurable)
* Samba/CIFS support aka windows share mounting (requires Samba app pack)
* Experimental wireless adapter support (thx to Zorander) (requires wireless-mod-wdlxtv app pack)
* Telnet server
* pure-ftp server
* configurable to automount NFS shares

this probably doesnt matter to the regular everyday user, but i'm sure it would appeal to the power user. i've been on firmware version 0.4.3.1 now for awhile and have been able to stream videos from my laptop to my TV using this firmware.

Good Lookin Tim, how are you ripping your blu-rays and what file format are you using to store them on your HDD.
Last month I was thinking about building a HT CPu then this little ass box came and fuck everthing up.

for blu ray torrents, not sure. i get them from isohunt. the ones posted on here are 720p i believe, thats why they arent too large, but the quality is excellent anyway. as bad a movie as The Spirit was, it looks good in blu.
