ESPN's #1 High School Basketball Player of Alltime

Felipe was crazy...shit was rockin' when he was in HS too...

I remember Felipe's high school team was ranked #1 in the nation his senior year....until the came down to Baltimore played Southern. Southern had this dude name Kevin Simpson and he cooked Lopez in that game (dropped 34 on Lopez). Southern beat Rice that night and they ended up finishing #2 in the nation that year. Too bad Simpson chose to sell drugs over hoops. He was Carmelo before Carmelo.

And for the dude who mention the Dunbar-Baltimore team with 4 All-americans on it....The 1982 national champs featured Reggie Williams, David Wingate, Muggsy Bouges, and the late Reggie Lewis. Lewis didn't even start on that team.

before there was a lebron...there was demarr johnson....6'9 pg in h.s....shooting half court 3's in games....yall forget that he was a top 10 pick as a junior....lottery pick as a soph...in high school

Felipe Lopez was fuckin garbage. that nigga was the epitome of overrated. he was "nice" in H.S. cause at that time there was no dominicans doin shit in bball and NYC needed a messiah. that nigga took the easy way out and went to st johns where he would have no ncaa comp. i remember gettin into it with some domincan niggaz in riverbank st park (145th uptown). these niggaz was on some he the best player ever... he better than iverson,(at the time few knew about a.i. before he went gtown) he gon be on mike's level/.

My era was Kenny 'Chibbs' Anderson, 'Zo Mourning, Shawn Kemp and Chris Jackson.

Now, as far as Kareem being the best ever....Excellent choice.
But, in my opinion, Lebron was the BEST I'VE EVER SEEN... I've never seen anybody like him. Not only was he dominate ... But he made the BUMS on his team LOOK GOOD...

Dude was hyped beyond belief. He had no choice but to fail. I dont think he was overrated in high school as much as was done maturing as a player. He peaked as a junior. Once he hit the collegiate level it was apparent that dude was just another guy. Remember this kid was the first high schooler to make SI cover.

What a let down. It was always funny seeing his black ass on the court then hearing him in postgame interview sounding like he just jumped the boarder.

gotta agree with those that said Lebron was the best H.S player
I ever personally saw - he defined "Dominant "

Damn this list is imcomplete. No Earl Jones. No Connie Hawkins. These were high school legends. Not all high school legends went to the NBA.

halleluiER

They even left off Earl 'Black Jesus' Monroe.

"Remember, shoot over brotha's not at them"

:hmm:
It's a nice line, but if they really cared, why not do the commercial without the fade to their corporate logo?

It trivializes it, it makes it no different from claiming that everything "great" starting with the letter "g" islinked to Gatorade.

Some just die out in college cuz.

Kevin Walls from Camden was the number 1 ranked baller in 84 at about 40 some points per game. Barely got off the Louisville bench.

How the hell did that happen?

Did he have attitude problems?

It also pains me to hear and read about all these great talents that never made it to the pros because some of their were too stupid.

This cat was a beast at one point. Some used to say he was better than Bron...

I'll take your Kareem and raise you an Earl Manigault (the true GOAT), heroin's a helluva drug though.....:hmm:

I do remember reading an article were Kareem was asked who's the greatest baller he ever saw or played against and he said Earl Manigault.

Kevin Walls was a dick. He was my year and I played against him plenty of times. He started as a freshman on the team with future pros Milt Wagner and Billy Thompson. He got his 40 a night on the weak teams in South Jersey. Against the North Jersey teams he was regular. He played like he was the shit and he could shoot but he was 6'2" and was slow of foot. When Milt's son, Dejaun, got there he reminded me of Kevin Walls.

I played on the Sophomore all-star team in Philly in 82 and we played the Maryland squad and they had those four and Grady Mateen and Duane Ferrell. All NBA players. They didn't win the tourny though they lost to the Jersey/New York Roadrunners with Milt Wagner, Billy Thompson, Walter Berry, Willie Glass and the great Dwayne "Pearl" Washington.

Man, this list is stone cold bullshit. They just looked up current All-Stars and Hall of Famers and put them in order. Felipe Lopez aint on the list. Glenn Robinson aint on the list. Ben Wilson aint on the list. Marcus Liberty aint on the list. There's sooo many dudes who were really great in high-school, but weren't shit in college or as pros.

Jordan got cut from his sophomore team, so how could he be on the list? He only averaged 20 points again in high-school.

Man, Jerome Harmon was a BEAST; I remember watching him as a kid, he took Lew Wallace to the '86 semistate, then went down to Louisville and had a nice college career.

I think he might have gotten drafted and floated around the L on some 10-day contracts for a few years.

Harmon only played 10 games in the league for Philly man(just looked it up). I thought he was gonna be like. . . . what J.R. Rider turned out to be(before the trouble), y' know what I'm sayin'? A decent pro.

Dejaun, was def better than Kevin Walls. He would have made a fine pro. Even Milt and Billy sat on the bench (I think Billy eventually got time with another team).

Still can't take away from Walls as a high schooler. I think he scored like 85 or so in one game. He scored his 40+ average against some of the better teams as well as chump teams. That Camden team when he was a freshmen was ranked number one in the nation, then got blown out by Neptune. What a shame.

Probably the greatest high school team of all time. At least it would have been a good match against Power Memorial, Lebron's school and some of these recruited private schools of today.

Is the thread titled best player to COMPLETE high school? Ijiot

Pretty much. (If you don't play, you can't rate with the greats. Obviously.)

Earl is best-known for his JUNIOR high school and playground play. His fine (when he was there) high school career was often interrupted.

I was NEVER IMPRESSED with Lenny Cooke's game. He had no jump shot whatsoever. Lebron RUINED this nigga right here.

Per Wikipedia -

"Biography

Cooke could not play organized high school basketball as a senior by accidentally exhausting his high school eligibility. Cooke attended La Salle Academy in the Lower East Side of Manhattan in New York City from 1999-2000. He then achieved an average 30 points and 15 rebounds to earn eligibility to play. Lenny went to Northern Valley Regional High School located in Old Tappan, NJ, from 2000 to February 2002. Next, Lenny attended Mott Adult High School in Flint, Michigan in February and March 2002, though did not play basketball. At Franklin K. Lane High School, in Brooklyn, NY, he was honored as Freshmen of the Year. He earned MVP honors in the 2000 Adidas ABCD camp. He scored 21 points to help the Eastern Conference defeat the West 115-103, at the EA Sports Roundball Classic at the United States Center in Chicago on March 8, 2002. Lenny Cooke was rated #4 High School Player in the United States in the Prep Stars Recruiter’s Handbook. Lenny starred on the #1 ranked AAU basketball team in the nation, the NY Gauchos.

[edit] Career

Cooke himself had other options for basketball: North Carolina, Seton Hall, St. John's, Miami, and Ohio State. However, Cooke chose to seek out the money by declaring himself eligible for the 2002 NBA Draft. He would go undrafted. When all 29 of the NBA teams passed on Cooke in both rounds, he would turn to joining the Rucker Park Summer League in New York, playing for the Terror Squad team.

Later that same year, he was drafted by the Columbus Riverdragons of the NBDL. Additionally, Lenny tried out for the Brevard Blue Ducks of the USBL in April 2003. Next, he was signed to the Brooklyn Kings in May, also within the USBL. In 15 games, he averaged 28.8 points per game and a little more than nine rebounds.

Later that year, Lenny was back to the Rucker Park Summer League. Then, he would find himself playing in the Philippine Basketball Association for the Purefoods TJ Hotdogs. In addition, Cooke was signed with the Shanghai Dongfang Sharks in December 2003. Lenny averaged 16.7 points and a near seven rebounds per game. By 2004, he had returned to the PBA's Purefoods team but suffered his second injury with the team in the season opener and was out for the rest of the tournament. After not being drafted to the NBA, via age limit, he continued to work out. Cooke most recently played for the Minot Skyrockets of the CBA in 2006-07. As of November 2008, Lenny Cooke works at the Food Lion Distribution Center in Prince George, Va as an order selector."

:hmm::eek: - DAMN.

I think I remember who you are talking about now.

I remember seeing him on a documentary where he was still living with his mom.

Big Dog G-ROB had GI on lock in so many ways in the early 90's!!
Oscar R. and Oden held it down for 4 years!
