The hand wraps confiscated from former welterweight champion Antonio Margarito shortly before his title defense against "Sugar" Shane Mosley contained two primary elements of plaster of Paris, the Los Angeles Times reported, citing documents obtained from California's top law enforcement agency.

A California Department of Justice senior criminalist who inspected the wrappings under a stereomicroscope and with an X-ray fluorescence spectrometer determined the wraps contained sulfur and calcium, according to a document obtained by the Times. Those two elements, with the addition of oxygen, make plaster of Paris.

The hand wraps were removed from Margarito's fists shortly before his Jan. 24 title fight against Mosley when Mosley's trainer, Nazim Richardson, objected to their use. The hardened gauze pads, which had been inserted inside the hand wraps near Margarito's knuckles, were seized by the California State Athletic Commission, which sanctions and oversees boxing in the state.

Mosley went on to claim a TKO win in the ninth round and take the WBA welterweight title.

In February, following a hearing days after the fight, the state athletic commission revoked the licenses of Margarito and his trainer, Javier Capetillo, for one year. The commission's decision is likely to be upheld in other states.

"The [state athletic] commission's decision appears to be supported by that report," said Karen Chappelle, the state supervising deputy attorney general for licensing who urged the state commission to revoke Margarito's and Capetillo's licenses.

"The only things that are allowed in hand wraps are gauze and tape and those items aren't gauze and tape," she said, according to the Times.

Margarito and Capetillo have yet to appeal the revocations of their licenses.

According to the report, Margarito's promoter, Bob Arum, had no immediate response to the findings.

"I'd have to see [the report]," Arum said.

Good.

Those cheating ass bastards would've gladly accepted the victory had he'd not gotten caught.

Sellout Americans were on his sack at the job.:smh:

Mexico should be ashamed.

I can't believe that they still try shit like that just for a win. He and his management team should be banned and fined. :smh::smh:

Damn... I'm ignorant to this shit... do they always check gloves before the fight? What tipped dude to complain? What's the advantage like, punch for punch? -- Like 5 real punches = 4 plaster punches?

fucked up thing is someone signed off on the gloves before richardson caught the shit. Fraud ass dude definantly needs to be banned for life. They always talked about his slow starts and how he comes on strong at the end of fights. Guess he knew that without that plaster shit he was just an average dude and needed that shit to get wins and cash in on them checks. No doubt in my mind he been doing that shit for years.

Shane's trainer didn't like the way they were wrapping his hands so they had to unwrap them, guess thats when they found the extra shit. Yes they are supposed to always check gloves before a fight, and someone else had already signed off on the wrapping as being ok before Nazim stepped in and caught that shit.

Dog. I would say 3 real punches = one loaded punch.

Glad this shit don't happen in MMA.

Have they proved he had Plaster of Paris for all of his fights?

9/10 that wasnt the first time he used that shit fam, the thing is you would never know how far it goes back unless they come clean with the shit. But I bet anything that wasnt the first time. you dont become a world class fighter and start to cheat when you already see what you can do on some honest shit. Even if that was the case and it was his first time he would have still had some confidence, his confidence was on zero that whole fight cause he didnt have that crutch that he was used to, that was a mental thing.

He'll be blackballed for sure. I'm not sure if they can strip him of any of his prior victories/titles.

Panama Lewis wants to know what the big deal is...

yes...they refs tape the gloves and mark with them with special tape so if its taken off they will know some shit is up.

i would say with plaster being very serious.

maybe like 5 reg punches are like 1 loaded punches. (atleast)

The difference is a guy with plaster of paris in his gloves murdered his opponent and went to jail for murder in the past. You can't measure the difference its like beating someone with a rock- some will go out others will take it and others will get brain damage etc

****edit it wasnt murder it was assault and conspiracy and the guy got braindamaged and died 10months later in a car accident/suicide

He will never fight in the US again.
Refs and opposing trainers watch the hands get wrapped but if someone is slick about it and the refs/trainers arent paying attention they can get away with it. I think he had that shit when he beat Cotto and every other fight he had since his career turned around all of the sudden* suspicious as fuck now

Mosley's trainers knew about Margarito's weird wraps before the fight and when Margarito's people asked for an extra layer of gauze they(Mosley's camp) said fuck no. Margarito's guy tried to put it in anyway and Mosley's guy saw it and told the ref immediately.
Margarito's people were also shaking the stage at the weigh in and after Mosley weighed in once at weight they asked for another weigh in- this time they were rocking the stage so the scale showed him over by 2 pounds.
Mosley's camp complained but he came back and stripped down and showed again he was at weight.

THere's no way margarito didnt know that shit was in his wraps.

The thing to watch is Cotto. His manager is Arum and he's mad as fuck that Arum was defending Margarito's against the ban. If Arum tries to defend Margarito Cotto will ditch him and go to Golden Boy quickfast.

Margarito is a criminal.

Nazeem Richardson deserve an award for outing this cheater. Thats the type of trainer I want in my corner, nothing passes his eyes without some serious scrutiny.

Remember that line from "Requiem for a Heavyweight?" : Sport? Are you kidding? If there was headroom they'd hold these things in sewers.
