China backs talks on dollar as reserve -Russian source

MOSCOW, March 19 (Reuters) - China and other emerging nations back Russia's call for a discussion on how to replace the dollar as the world's primary reserve currency, a senior Russian government source said on Thursday.

Russia has proposed the creation of a new reserve currency, to be issued by international financial institutions, among other measures in the text of its proposals to the April G20 summit published last Monday.

Calls for a rethink of the dollar's status as world's sole benchmark currency come amid concerns about its long-term value as the U.S. Federal Reserve moved to pump more than a trillion dollars of new cash into the ailing economy late Wednesday.

Russia met representatives of China, India and Brazil ahead of the G20 finance ministers meeting last week, as the big emerging powers seek to up their influence on decisionmaking globally. Their first ever joint communique did not mention a new currency but the source said the issue was discussed.

"They (China) did not formally put forward their position for the G20 summit but unofficially they had distributed their paper regarding the same ideas (the need for the new currency)," the source told Reuters, speaking on condition of anonymity.

The source said the Chinese paper envisaged the International Monetary Fund's Special Drawing Rights (SDRs) being first assigned a role of a clearing currency on some transactions and then gradually becoming the main global reserve currency. "They said that the role of reserve currency should be given to SDR," the source said.

A U.N. panel of experts is also looking at using expanded SDRs, originally created by the International Monetary Fund in 1969, but now used mainly as an accounting unit within similar organisations as a new reserve currency instead of the dollar.

Currency specialist Avinash Persaud, a member of the U.N. panel, told a Reuters Funds Summit on Wednesday that the proposal was to create something like the old Ecu, or European currency unit, that was a hard-traded, weighted basket.

The SDR and the old Ecu are essentially combinations of currencies, weighted to a constituent's economic clout, which can be valued against other currencies and against those inside the basket.

The Russian source said Moscow was aware that the emergence of the new global currency would not happen overnight and said its goal was to initiate a discussion about it at the G20 summit in London on April 2.

The source said that India did not object to the discussion but was not prepared to take the lead. The source said South Korea and South Africa backed the idea, while developed nations were not "allergic" to it.
"We are not waiting for everyone to say: 'How beautifully it has all been formulated, let's subscribe to it'," the source said. "The main idea is to start a discussion about it."

Russia holds about half of its reserves, the world's third-largest, in dollars, with the rest in euros and pounds.

Prime Minister Vladimir Putin has called on reserve currency issuers to show more financial discipline.

Finance Minister Alexei Kudrin told reporters on the sidelines of the G20 finance ministers meeting that it would take up to 30 years to create a new super-currency, suggesting there was no unity in Russia on the issue.

President Dmitry Medvedev's top economic aide and G20 sherpa Arkady Dvorkovich is behind the Kremlin's G20 proposals, made public one day after Kudrin returned from England. (Reporting by Gleb Bryanski; editing by Mike Dolan/Patrick Graham)

it's the end of the world as we know it

for those that don't know but want to,what would happen if this were to go down:confused:

Find a thread I started about the "real reason we invaded Iraq"..from a few years ago. It was an old post I wrote after I came from Baghdad shortly after the war "ended"...but it explains why the U.S. dollar's status as the world's reserve currency is really the only thing that holds that stack of cards up...and the U.S. will war with other countries over it... Oil was the secondary issue.. we were in Iraq to combat the Euro... my post explains it.

nobody wants to believe it or think about it. and the truth is, nobody knows wtf to do. the solution that's needed won't happen unless the military leaders finally decided to stop taking orders from crooks.

What other options are there? This is probably the same Russian source that said America would break up into 6 different countries.

What else could replace the dollar? The only other currency is the Euro, and there's a stronger possibility the Euro could collapse itself by the end of the year.

There is no replacement. As it took decades for the Euro to even be created it would take decades to even consider a replacement to the Dollar..at most, we will just see fluctuations in terms of the percentages that central banks hold their reserves in U.S. dollars in order to mitigate their risk.. but at the end of the day, it's not going to be replaced by anything... anytime soon. There is no legitimate replacement at this point.

America is old news, a 20th century power... in the 21st century, America is going to fall back greatly in status/influence... when Obama said "we'll come out stronger than ever" in his speech a few weeks ago I was like :lol::lol:... Obama's testing jokes for his HBO comedy special. No nation can be top dog forever... especially a nation with as much debt as the good ol' USA

We'll see. These boys aren't putting this out for nothing, something's afoot.

The dollar is not going to be replaced because no country can guarantee the safety of its currency like the US. When despots are run out of their countries they have dollars to secure them passage.

china is rattling swords at the US but if the dollar go down the Chinese will be losing trillions because of the amount of dollars they own. Russia doesn't have that many dollars and so for them this is a chance to attempt to become a world economic player(they thought they had it with oil but its price is too volatile and the Arabs are not going to let them play in their pool).

Right now the dollar is propped up but really who is going to do the "unpropping" and risk a shakier situation.

This is not new though brah. These types of statement have been made for decades. It's only front page news because people are paying more attention to politics now AND information is just overall more available because of the internet.

Replacing the dollar's position as a hegemony that gives us power over the entire world has been at the top of every foreign power's list of "IF I COULD DO ONE THING" for decades.

So it was you that posted that. I always remembered reading that post, but couldn't remember the title or anything. I would go on to tell some of my friends and they just laughed at me saying I was looking at the war completely wrong. To make it worse I told them it was off of balckgirlonline.com:lol:

yeah... saying you got the info from a fucking porn board wouldn't help :lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

But man.. I actually wrote that based on a lot of empirical research, after meeting with people in Washington like Senator Biden in his office after hours of conversation(I was mostly just listening...besides Biden..I was the only non-Iraqi in the room so I just took info..even he asked..WTF you doing here: ) and then after coming back from Iraq and seeing things with my own eyes..and I was on the FIRST non military flight into Iraq...flew in from Jordan..and shit was MAD ill because it was some suspect people in that flight (that's when it hit me..I was like WTF am I doing here )... and we had all types of access to government officials.. Kurds from the North..etc... it was just the most logical conclusion based on all the available information I had to me... and ironically when I would make the case to people.. especially during my trips to the Middle East.. it was like an instance "well I'll be damned" moment... like they had just heard the answer to some riddle that never made sense to them. I could be wrong.. but it's always seemed like the most probably answer considering all the things I saw and heard with my own eyes and ears.

U can best believe America will bomb the shit outta somebody before they let that shit happen. THey will fabricate a war wit somebody QUICK! Kim Jong would have missiles shot dead up his midget ass. THen the US would be lookin at China like "Yall feelin froggy bitches? JUMP!"

E, man, you are one of a few people on this board that I ask myself "Who is this dude, REALLY". You know? You constantly drop knowledge that is way above the normal "pay-grade". I'm talking G-14 material. Because of the anonymity on this board we are left only to wonder who everybody REALLY is. But to talk with a cat that was in the same room when all of these discussions happened makes you think. Hell, because of the anonymity we could be talking with senators, CEOs, heads of state, ball players, musicians, the whole nine and not even know it. BGOL is the best spot online.

Da hell you do for a living to be granted that kind of access?

It was just one of those crazy coincidences. I studied Arabic and Middle Eastern Politics in college... I'm from Detroit.. largest Iraqi population outside of the Middle East... I was doing business with this prominent Iraqi and he had access to EVERYONE in the new Iraqi Administration.. so considering that I've done all types of business...from old school like real estate development to developing patentable technology in high tech, dude knew that I could help pretty much in anything he wanted to implement..he wasn't just their for political reasons..he was trying to go home and get in on the ground floor and get money. However, it got really violent as we left..literally the first real large scale car bombing happened while we were in the air flying back to Jordan.. Plus..I'm just one of those cats who would be crazy enough to actually fly to fucking Iraq during a war :smh::confused::lol:

Man.. our damn pickup team didn't even really believe we were coming..we spent 20 minutes at the pickup point (outside ..in front of a hotel that eventually months down the line that was bombed by the insurgents ) and a random Iraqi volunteer (armed with a couple of machine guns) protected me as my associate went to make a phone call (at the point really only satellite phones were working)... all the while... Iraqi's were looking like what's your black ass doing on the corner with a bunch of suitcases... man... I seriously think If I had been white... I would have been shot ... Man..I was like this dumbass didn't better coordinate things.. but when our team showed up... .we had armed motorcades from that point out.. we were so armed that the U.S. military actually came to this restaurant we were all at like.. why do you guys have more guns than we do :lol::lol::lol:

then they went down the list of all of us..about 40 of us (but only me and one person made the flight from the U.S. together..the rest were prominent Iraqis from all over the world)...they got to me and again.. (what's your black ass doing over here in HELL in the middle of a war...you actually came here by choice ?) :smh::lol::lol::lol:

Man..we went to Fadayeen camps..the whole nine..I don't think I have any real good pics but I will post a couple..My hotel was actually across the river from the one that Wolfowitz ass was when the insurgents try to blow that muthafucka up..It was like 6am in the morning..i woke up like WTF..i even took a pic from my window..I'll post that one

The stupid shit we do...I'll never do anything like that again

I take shitty pictures.... combine that with the fact that I generally hate taking pics and I dropped my camera...these two pics aren't going to show well..and I can't even find the rest.. but one of them is with the random dude I was talking about that was protecting me while our pickup team was coming..he hung with us for a minute

Shit..i can't even find the one with the hotel smoking when they tried to flame Wolfiwitz's ass.. I was staying at the Babylon Hotel.. his hotel was almost exactly on the other side of the river..

That's the problem. It seems like NOW will be the time they actually do something. I'll be keeping an eye out.

Yeah man. and often wonder who lurks here as well..

depends on what you mean by "older".. but I was in college when U of M last won a national title in football..and I went to college straight from high school.I was young as hell when I went to Iraq..outside of our security, everyone in our different groups were AT LEAST double my age...so I still relatively young...

As we become weaker, I agree...when Saudi Arabia..several months back when the U.S. dollar was very week starting talking about other reserve currency options..I was like uh oh.... people don't have the same type of fear.... however, a lot of people in the intelligence community believe we went into Iraq without the consent of the world because we didn't really want it...the neo-conservatives were trying to send a message... go too far and we'll even break international law and suspend our constitution to defend the U.S. dollar...

Which was dumb. Now the US has world collectively saying "fuck you" right about now. Stay tuned.....which I know you will anyway.

very early.

I'm not trying to be coy Brah... with all the things I've revealed on BGOL.. one day if it becomes necessary, someone could put the pieces together:lol::lol::lol:

Oh know doubt, you're a knowledgeable cat, however man can't control nature or time.

no doubt...everything about what the neo-conservatives did under Bush's 8 year administration illustrates short-sightedness
