I hate when people make sweeping generalizations, I dont care what group it is about. Yea all of these are true for certain women but not true for every woman. I have come across women that meet some of those and I have also met women that didnt meet any. If people would look at people individually and not try to assume things then the male-female relations would go alot better.

ITA-
Generalization and assumption are my biggest peeves:hmm:
I myself am on the list, but not all apply to me. And because some of the assumptions may be true for me, I am by far the definition of a stereotype.

It's especally crippling when people of your own race use those same stereotyopes against you ... I try to judge people based on their character and nothing else and I've also raised my son that way

I think people stereotype out of fear and ignorance

They are afraid of the unknown so they stereotype as opposed to getting to kow the person better

Good post Onyx ... thanks for this:yes:

Yep!!

Oh and I saw that on the list too and was like....Huh?
I didnt get that one....

I will PM you the link-As you will see some stuff I purposely left out..You will see a trend in her "blogs"

I'm sure she is referring to transvestites which there are in EVERY race ... so lets move on and try to focus on the important parts

Ok but you can tell a tranny is a tranny and not a woman and as for the rest a bunch of shitty stupid stereotypes straight garbage :smh:

I'm not sure what the list writer was getting at. A lot of those assumptionss are very reasonable and POSITIVE ones. Seem like the list is a backhanded shot at black women. Either way, a rather strange mix of things that could just as easily apply to men.

True and I believe there was a list like this about black men...I just didnt post it, because I want to discuss about women first.

This list is so random that its amusing...I'm glad that they are ERRONEOUS assumptions... I had to keep reminding myself of that...

If you look @ it like that it makes a lot of sense...

Many people make so many of these assumptions, but they go for all races...

#19 made me laugh a lot for some reason...

I'd love the link to this blog...

What's erroneous about ALL black women feeling that Michelle Obama is a role model? Why not? Who doesn't? (The list maker is implying that certain black women don't value what she's done in life, because they aren't ambitious or are clueless. It's a SHOT.)

This list is retarded.

Please remember the list is ERRONEOUS and that this is a topic for discussion. Thanks for posting the link, it was also posted in the other topic.

My question to all is how do we change these erroneous assumptions?
Do they matter? discuss on a MATURE level-

Thanks

The problem with the list, IMO, is that very few people assume these things about ALL Black women.

Most people that make sweeping generalizations of this sort gather their assumptions from interactions with a very very very very small percentage of the population. They are the type of people that will make those assumptions no matter what because their mental facilities are warped.

It's an argumental fallacy. It's hard, honestly, to spark a discussion when the impetus of the discussion is so cut and dry. If the word MOST was subbed in for ALL, then I think a better and healthier discussion could be had.

Ya dig?

I feel like this about sweeping generalizations, use some sense. If i take a poll and get 100 women and 95 of them say they like cheeze whiz, and 5 say they don't. You can say most or all. Do the 5 matter? Not to me they don't. You can say all and if it's something that the vast majority do? Then what's the big deal? You don't want to be included in it, ok fine. Don't get your panties in a bunch. Relax, you KNOW what the hell is being said. You KNOW what the general consensus is.

Ok so fine, not ALL, most do. So what?

Truthfully you can't! The "negative" is so ingrained with many of our people that these assumptions are more of a way of life.

Its not just black women its black people in general. Just scan the negative threads on BGOL then note the activity vs. the responses. If its negative or meant to degrade or embarrass someone BGOL is all over it. Assume the worst and beat the rush.
