STREET FIGHTER IV Official BGOL Thread + Video Review!

Capcom's heralded fighting franchise hits multiplatinum shipment following last week's US, Euro launch.

One week before Street Fighter IV's console debut in Japan on February 12, Capcom was projecting lofty sales goals for the game's global performance. As part of its third-quarter earnings report, Capcom said that it expects to sell 1.7 million units of the game through its fiscal year end, or March 31. One week removed from Street Fighter IV's US and European release, and the publisher appears to be well on its way to meeting--or exceeding--those expectations.

Today, Capcom announced that it has shipped 2 million copies of Street Fighter IV to retailers across the globe. While the figure signifies strong demand for the title, Capcom did not reveal how many of those units had actually been sold. Since the original Street Fighter launched in 1987, the franchise has sold more than 500,000 arcade cabinets and 27 million console games, according to Capcom.

Street Fighter IV marks the first all-new installment in the series since 1998's Street Fighter III. (Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix was released as a downloadable game for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 last November.) The 2D fighter features all 12 of the classic World Warriors that fronted the heralded Street Fighter II series. Also entering the ring are seven fighters that have appeared in other Street Fighter games, such as Fei Long and Akuma, as well as six all-new characters.

Shit man according to everyone on the forums on the internet this shit is sold out everywhere. This and the damn tournament sticks and fight pads so Capcom is probably going to do alright by this. Not going to do FPS number but it's nice to see that people are still into 2d fighters.

Which means we can probably expect Street Fighter V.

Abel- Fuck that muthafucker.
Just rolls and throws you, and rolls and throws you. And grabs you out of a move, and throws you some more. One reason why I'll never play this joint on the hardest. Fuck a Zangief too, but I'd rather fight him than Abel.

Let's get this much out of the way: Shoryuken for shoryuken, the Mad Catz Street Fighter IV FightPad is a vastly superior instrument of destruction compared to the standard Xbox 360 controller.

Price: $40

Verdict: In one sense, the verdict is that straightforward—the fantastic floating D-Pad and arcade-style six-button layout crush the regular Xbox 360 controller when it comes to fighting games. The FightPad makes my game so much better, so much more precise, I don't think I could go back to using the old pad.

IMG_1792.jpg

Here's what I mean: With the old pad, on average, I would successfully execute Fei Long's rising dragon kick (or insert any dragon punch-based maneuver) about 5-7 times out of 10 tries. With the FightPad, it's like 9 times out of 10. Moves requiring 720-degree motions, like Zangief's super, come off much easier as well, and exactly when I want it to (when someone's up in my face—PILEDRIVER). Back, forward, back forward style specials, like with Honda or Blanka, aren't noticeably easier to perform, though.

IMG_1796.jpg

The shape and layout of the FightPad kinda reminds me of a Sega Genesis controller, and is for the most part, excellent, though if you have elven hands it might feel a little too big. For me, with medium mitts, it fits perfectly, no matter which way I hold it (I actually turn my right hand palm side down, so I can mash the buttons with my fingers whenever I play fighting games) and there's some breathing room for gorilla-handed people too.

But there are some things you should know about that would be dealbreakers if beating people didn't matter above all else. Numero uno, on the Xbox 360, this sucker is wired, which is lame balls for a $40 controller. It also feels very cheaply made, with glossy plastic Mad Catz found and melted down after it fell off a Christmas ornament truck. The rubber coating on the sides and back helps a little bit. Last, the sound quality coming through the headset on this thing is really terrible, like I was stranded on a desert island with a cellphone from 1987—it's noticeably crappier than it is on the regular Xbox 360 controllers.

Those things said, if you wanna do better in Street Fighter IV—or any fighting game really, since it worked fantastically with Samurai Showdown II and SFIITHDR as well—and not have a real reason to curse at your controller when you get scrubbed, but don't wanna (or can't) drop the money on the outrageously awesome Tournament Edition FightStick, this is a reasonable alternative, if you can actually find it for the $40 MSRP.

As slow and lazy as Capcom developers are you'll see a true Street Fighter V in about 15 years. And you better hope they don't reuse the same polygons from this game when it happens. /sarcasm

Capcom is lazy but they have a hit on their hands.

Hopefully they'll take advantage.

Pretty much. Capcom has always been my favorite company since the 8-bit NES days. With such hits as Mega Man, Bionic Commando, Ghosts N' Goblins ( later Ghouls N' Ghosts), U.N. Squadron, 1942, Section Z, Forgotten Worlds, Commando, Gun Smoke, Duck Tales, Strider, MERCS, Final Fight, etc. it's easy to see why:yes:

They need to make the plyer lobbies accessible like SSFHD REMIX. Then a few of us could get some games in and there would be no tall tales.

Dayum...I guess I should feel good cause I beat him the first time I played against him. But dayum "A New Challenger has entered the ring" keeps stopping me when I get my flow!

Fuck is up with Time Attack 19? That shit is straight lies. It says Auto Heal and Inifinite SC. Well SC isn't infinite it's normal and I can't even block. Auto Heal is minor. Anybody else tried this one? And it's all shotokans.

To stop that A New Challenger stuff, on the 360 press the RB on the main menu to goto edit stats, Go down to Arcade Req Settings and select off. First couple of days i was getting caught out their. By the time I got to the 2nd person of Arcade Mode, I fought 5 rank matches, and they would always come when i was about to beat the computer and move onto another person.:lol:
