Dam!:smh:

I wonder how many people...other than DevilStrider and myself realize that the XBOX consoles are nothing more than extensions of what the Dreamcast would've evolved into had Sega not been dumb fucks when it came to marketing and bringing hot import games to the USA?

Peep the comparisons- http://www.1up.com/do/feature?cId=3145154&did=1

not as much as we love the ride or die dick riders. niggaz got like 3 games total ... talkin about "yeah boy i'm playin mad quality games". GTFO.
I don't even know why those simps even bother replying to these threads. Those 3 games they got are Madden, NBA Live or 2K, and Grand Theft Auto IV. Guaranteed!:hmm:

WTF do they know about shit?

If it happens again I would suggest fixing it yourself. I got the RROD in november for the second time. Rather than sending it in again, just to receive another refurbished piece of shit. I decided to crack it open a fix it myself. I had it up and running in less than a hour.

If your going by sales i wouldnt say the ps3 is in the dust. prior to the 360 price cut the ps3 was cruising.

here are the total sales to date based on jan. 2008 to nov. 2008

If your going by sales.

Console Year 2008 sales (as of November)
Wii 8,001,000
Xbox 360 3,295,400
PlayStation 3 2,818,900
PlayStation 2 2,092,300

Handhelds
Nintendo DS
6.91 million
PlayStation Portable 2.81 million

for 2 consoles that are about twice the price or half the price the difference is about 500k

Is that world wide sales for the 3 consoles?

There's a reason why the most popular (and long lasting) video game threads have been NBA2K, GTA IV, COD 4. Those are the only games anyone is playing for more than 1 week before they get bored. And they're multi-plat formers.

I got PS3 and a 360 and I like them both, that blu ray player on the pS3 is excellent but the one problem I do have with the PS3 is how Sony said how powerful it was going to be, I was thinking they meant how the graphics would be so much better but when u compare graphics on both systems they look about the same except for MGS4 which is the best looking game on any console out there but that is only one game. Right now you are just paying extra money for because it has a blu ray player on it. My thing is what is the PS3 true power and how will they show us that power because every game on the 360 looks just as good or better than games do on the PS3. Sony needs to step up and show owners of this console what it can really do or they will continue to get criticize big time and continue to be 3rd in sales.

I keep hearing about another next gen console coming out in the near future, is this true? I heard Microsoft was working on something. Yeah as far as Sony and that Cell processor I'll be glad when we see the true power of it because how many years are we in with the new consoles, 3 or 4 years now...time for sony to step up.

Xbox live got too many kids on there screaming into the microphone, gets annoying after a while.

I prefer the Xbox but most people don't play more than probably 3 of 4 games on the regular so get that hardcore gamer crap outta here, a company will suffer only advertising to true fans.

I respect sony for talking the balls to throw in a blueray player into the ps3 but in general they losing the war due to most gamers being younger kids who spend the most money on games.

Sony was on some grown man stuff and lost the battle, a higher price plus these fanboys bigging up microsoft did them in.

:smh:The Wall Street Journal now notes that you can get a Blu-ray player and an Xbox 360 for less than the price of a PS3.

One pundit famously told me this summer that 2008 would be "the year of the PlayStation 3," presuming that must-have new games and the rise of Blu-ray would turn the PS3 into, if not the top console on the market, then at least a strong #2.

Alas, things haven't turned out so well for Sony's flagship PS3: Sales of the console are down 19 percent vs. last year, and analysts are now warning that Sony may not hit its goal of selling 10 million consoles this fiscal year (which ends in March 2009).

Why the hefty decline? You can try to blame the economy at large, but that's looking in the wrong direction: Gaming has been experiencing a booming market in 2008 -- even during the recession-stricken holiday season. Sales of the Wii console this November were twice what they were in 2007, and the Xbox 360 saw sales increase 8 percent, as well (driven largely by a well-timed price cut). And those trends are likely to continue when December numbers are in.

Most analysts are looking at the hefty PS3 price tag as the reason for its misery. At a bare minimum price of $399, the PS3 is wildly more expensive than anything else on the market (and double the entry-level Xbox), and that's after some price cuts already. Yet the PS3 is said to be so expensive to make that cutting the price would further erode Sony's plummeting profitability (it's already laying off thousands of workers and shutting down factories). And Sony's old selling point -- that at $399 the PS3 is a relatively cheap way to get a Blu-ray player -- doesn't really work in an era of sub-$199 standalone Blu-ray units.
The fatal blow could come in the form of game developers, which have limited resources and have to choose which platforms they want to develop for. It's already rare for a title to be released on all three consoles, with exclusives becoming more popular: Again, as the WSJ notes, four of the top five selling games in November were exclusive to either the Wii or the 360. And even when a PS3 version is available, that doesn't mean much, with WSJ noting, "Sony's best-selling game during the month was an action shooter game, Call of Duty: World at War. But twice as many people bought the Xbox 360 version."

With a terrible economic outlook for 2009 and the holiday season now behind us, what is Sony's next move? A huge price cut might save the PS3 from outright failure... but at what cost to the company?

Is that world wide sales for the 3 consoles?

Yeah. Worldwide. It'd be cool if sites actually reported that shit over NPD's instead of acting like videogame consoles are only sold in the U.S. :hmm:. Hell the PS3 outsold the 360 worldwide in '07 when there really weren't too many big games on the system past uncharted, warhawk, rfom, and the multi-plats.

I have not bought a console since PS2. Then this year I bought two Wiis for the kids. I just didnt want them sitting around playing games. The Wii keeps them more active. I had to pick up the controller and give it a shot. Graphics suck but thumbs up for the kids.

I run into that on PSN as well. Guess they are grown men screaming in the mic which makes it even worse. But the reason PSN does not have more of this is because 80% of the owners don't have a headset. Thats right text chat while tying to evade the enemy.

That's why we have a gamertag thread for both consoles in the gamer section. Play with your real life friends and your friends at bgol for a better online experience on both consoles.

xbox 360 = young kids screaming, cursing and plenty of loud racism

ps3 = lots of people with no mics and adult racism (meaning they will say shit too but not loud like a 12 year old who is drunk playing xbox live at a Klan Rally)

debatable by needs. when you look at my post on here about console costs. for a similar experience to the ps3 (outside of LIVE) a 360 can run you about $400+

Sony went big this round. while i enjoyed the memory card slots, it was unnecessary. something they have removed to bring down costs.

if you follow this thread

Teardown of Sony's PlayStation 3

Sony is soon due for a price cut and to break even as well as start to see profit outside of its software gaming division. Putting it on par with the 360 as far as time line of when the cost cutting comes to effect.

On a grown mans perspective. added value comes from an all in one machine. one console, one device, one media center with one to two cables to enjoy it all. Makes for a much neater entertainment center experience.

Another thing to notice is that many people say they only use the blu ray player and Metal Gear Solid 4. Shame. In my personal opinion the ps3 has the better exclusives. I now use my hacked 360 for third party games and the 360 exclusives. But i have found the 360 exclusives to be meh. Halo?.. no thanks, Gears of War 2? no thanks, bought it used and returned it for store credit before i finished around the part that Tai killed himself. Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon doesnt get enough credit. microsoft should have spent time expanding what mistwalker could do for them rather than square. Even outside of the games square brought to the 360, not only does mistwalker do it better the best square games outside of its previous ps2 titles are on handhelds.

Nathan and a few others will tell you that gears beats resistance. i disagree. personal opinion though. the best 360 game out for 2008 is Left 4 dead. While i love my ps3 games i will be shutting it off from time to time to play L4D.

When looking at sales of third party software? sales should not be a gamers factor. if out of 100 people 60 360 owners bought world at war and 40 ps3 owners bought world at war. then that makes sense when you look at install base. not to mention that ps3 owners had more exclusives to buy this holiday.

Why? the 360 is too loud. it may have the love of some developers but it hardware is still sub standard. Free game of fallout 3 on 360 or bought ps3 version? going with the free.

but late night gaming and movie watching sucks on the 360 (minus the fact that the 360 does a better job at buffering streams)

To add or close. I just got a new ps3 to replace my :( gone ps3's. and just ordered the 64gb usb drive and am about to order a 500gb internal hard drive to compliment my ps3. also about to finally unwrap my Dark Knight on blu ray that i didnt open since i didnt even want to look at it after my stuff was gone and for the first time enjoy a movie with the only noise i hear is coming from the movie not the device i play it from.

Yo is a 80gig PS3 that was only used once a good deal for $300? my homegirl don't want her shit no more she only used the blu ray on it

i think that is a great price. the 360 is reliable so as long as it was taken care of no problem.

the same 80gb non backward compatible model goes used on gamestop for $349.

backward compatible model for $449 used

The ps3 i bought today without the memory card slots is not backward compatible is a steal.

the 80gb model that has the memory card slots (4 of them with 4 usb slots) is backward compatible.

a $300 backward compatible ps3 is a steal. a non backward compatible model is a good deal.

Im a socom fan so im sticking with my ps3

LOL

Halo fans = Socom fans

Halo 1 great, halo 2 meh, halo 3 :puke:

Socom series great = socom confrontation bug ridden

but fans of each love their halo and socom

Sony really undervalued socom. :smh: i cant forgive them for that. still love the game though.

If it has 4 usb ports on the bottom then it's the older models which support BC, if it has 2 it's not BC.

The newer one runs cooler and use less power but no memory card readers and can't play SDAC, the older ones can do all of that.

I got the older model, trying to sell it for months and no one even wants to shoot me 350 for it so I don't know who's buying my version for 450 used....

I was about to buy socom and then i say about 20 copies traded in after the first week. I told my self to do some research. Thats to many traded in after a week.

Today's Wall Street Journal has an interesting piece illustrating why the PS3 is floundering in the contest with Nintendo's Wii and Microsoft's Xbox 360. PS3 sales are on the decline while the competition is rising at a dramatic rate.
So, what are some of the main issues with the PS3?

It's overpriced
Microsoft dropped prices on the Xbox 360 to gain market share, and it worked. Sony is intent on becoming profitable (the right motive) but is doing so at the sake of building momentum. A console that starts at $400 (with only one controller and usually zero games) puts you over $500 before it's much fun.
According to the WSJ article, "U.S. sales of the PS3 fell 19 percent last month from a year earlier, while sales doubled for the Wii console and rose 8 percent for the Xbox 360, according to research firm NPD Group. Analysts say they expect PS3 sales for this month to be flat or lower than last year, while sales for its rivals are likely to rise."

Lack of exclusive games
It's gotten much harder to find compelling games that are only available on PS3, a strategy that has been very successful in the past.
Sony also is suffering from a lack of attractive titles that are exclusive to the PS3. Microsoft has hit the jackpot with two action-adventure game franchises, Halo and Gears of War, which are available only on the Xbox 360. Most of Nintendo's top games are made in-house and are playable only on the Wii.
Minimal modern touches (i.e. social features)

The Wii makes your goofy little Mii character come alive by connecting consoles online. Xbox Live has a community and marketplace. Playstation Home is compelling but empty, which should even out over time. But, the competition is so far ahead, Sony needed to do something much bigger and better.
Personally, I thought the social stuff was a little stupid until my nephew destroyed me in Wii bowling while playing 3,000 miles away. Now I get it.

It's being significantly out-marketed by the competition

Generally, games drive the marketing for consoles, but the Wii and Xbox have both built very strong brand awareness around the products themselves. The games are the accessories to the Wii lifestyle, and Microsoft makes the Xbox the center of your interactive gaming lifestyle. From the consumer perspective, the PS3 is a good gaming console, but not a brand that users feel a huge loyalty to or affinity for.

The user experience is somewhat burdensome
The games themselves look and feel good, but the experience of launching a game and getting up and running takes way too long (I feel this way about most consoles), to the point where many users I spoke with get so annoyed that they curse the machine. For the record, the cause may rest with the game developers, but the perception is that the console is the barrier.

Don't forget the Internet
A bigger threat looms for all console makers, and that's the fact that people spend way more time online then ever before and that browser-based casual games are not feeding console sales, but instead pushing consumers to stay on their PCs.

Another Anti-PS3 Argument Dies
ps3photo_03_small.jpg

The arguments leveled against Sony's PlayStation 3 when it first launched in late 2006 were both numerous and legitimate. Lack of software - a common refrain at the start of every new generation - led the charge, but the price tag concern wasn't too far behind.

Then, not much later, we started to see the unfortunate trend of piss-poor 360-to-PS3 ports. The reason for this was simple: developers weren't used to the PS3's complex new architecture and in stark contrast, they had a firm grasp of the year-old Xbox 360. Therefore, we end up with inferior PS3 versions of games like The Orange Box and F.E.A.R., among others. It wasn't long before this caught on and the mainstream buying public would issue two arguments- 1. the PS3 has no games (which we've already laid to rest), and 2. the PS3 version is always worse than the 360 version. Yep, it's time to drop the hammer on that latter argument, too, because it hasn't been true for most of 2008 and won't be true ever again in the future. In fact, many third-party developers are using the PS3 as the lead platform in the software production process, and if they're not, they're at least developing a project simultaneously for the PS3 and 360. We see examples of this at every turn, and for the biggest multi-platform releases of 2008, it's clear that things have changed.

Grand Theft Auto IV was basically identical on both the PS3 and 360 (don't listen to the Xbots who say the PS3 version is inferior; we've seen and played both and it's not true), and the same goes for games like Devil May Cry 4, Soul Calibur IV, Rock Band 2, Guitar Hero: World Tour, Call of Duty: World at War, Fallout 3, Mirror's Edge, Need for Speed Undercover, Far Cry 2, etc. There may be small differences in certain cases, but they're hardly the significant - and sometimes crippling - differences from the past, and sometimes, the PS3 version is actually better. And as time goes on, developers will become more and more comfortable with the PS3 hardware, and it's quite likely that the 360 versions of games will begin to bow to the PS3 versions. At the very least, the PS3 exclusives will kick the crap out of the 360 exclusives...well, it's a guarantee for 2009, at least. Now, there may be a few lingering instances of the PS3 version of a multiplat failing to pass muster - I'm sure everyone can list an example or two in the second half of 2008 - but the point is that it's most certainly dying out, if it's not entirely dead already.

So while there are still arguments against the PS3, as there are for any console, this one particular argument is now on its deathbed, if it hasn't flatlined already. PS3 versions of multiplatform games are almost never significantly inferior anymore, and that's that. You can still complain about the price, the debatable lacking in PlayStation Home, or whatever, but "PS3 has no games" and "PS3 versions of multiplats are always worse" are two statements that are, as of now, 100% false.

Need for Speed Undercover has way more fram rate issues on the PS3 then the 360. But thats not saying a lot because it was EA. Most wanted was a much better game.
