This is basically what I was told today by a woman who I offered to bump up in a management position

How? I asked. You'll be doubling your base pays and a larger comm structure. (From 7.50/hr to 28k)

If I get a raise I lose all childcare I receive now for free l'll make less money then I am now after having to pay child care




Do they get people that bad on childcare? How expensive is it?
 
depends on the city and state. When my little one was 3(last time he was in daycare) at a moderate level day care center it was 590 a month. Thats in Cincy
 
My mom owns her own daycare. She has been sucessful for over 20 years.

And yes child care is very very expensive!

I would still take the promotion and find a small home daycare.

Now that is 7080 / yr time the number of kids she has. If she has 2-4 kids then we looking at some serious money.
 
This lady at my job told me for her 2 year old daughter is about 200 per week.. And if you're late to pick your kids up, they charge you like $10 per ten minutes...

I think it all depends on the city and state too, this is in Jersey

when my daugthers were young it was $120/week,,two kids no assistance,,,that was twelve years ago,,,i ended up putting them in a private catholic school for awhile,,the price was the same

It is tax deductible but you don't see the little they give you back for 1yr. It doesn't help when you paying about $500+ a month. Plus I think she is also looking at health care

reminds me of a chick i know, who couldn't seem to get a good job
despite all the schooling (free via grants). her apt was stabilized and
her income reported to housing. she was only paying 385$/mth, she instead
supported her lavish lifestyle promoting parties and having sugar daddies.
 
yeah daycare's can be expensive

the one i worked at was about $850-$950 a month but it was a REAL daycare, not a spot where u drop ur kids off and they run around all damn day. it was structured, they learned and they played.


so yeah she might be fucked if she takes the promotion


she will have to do some shopping around for child care b/c:

1) you can't just send ur kids anywhere so you have to investigate
2) you have to think about the attachment the child may have to their current one


i hope she thinks of some way to get around it...some ppl do it everyday
 
i'm going to give her an option which might help. i'm just going to offer her the option of taking 5k more a year to the salary in lieu of commission/bonuses, maybe that will help if she knows she's going to bring home more on her base.

I agree with Leroy. In my experience, typically the base salary is what gets counted unless the commission is consistent and has been for 2 or more years. If a person is commission only then its averaged over a period of months again yearly increments being the norm.

I would not be taking your promotion either if I was in her situation. Those freaking benifits are not easy to get in now these days. There are so many people trying to get them now with this messed up economy. They are more sure than your promotion. If she is sick she still gets them, if she didn't sell a lot of cell phones she still gets them. This lady has less stress in her life now knowing that those programs are helping her than she did before she had them.

The only way I'd be giving up that level of security is if I was making twice the money.

This lady is not stupid. She already gamed the system. With this fucked up economy she could probably afford a decent house to live in now and she could also make money under the table and stack that shit for a house if she chooses (all under the table). I see so many people that were getting assistance that were living way happier life than I was. Having pantry filled with so much freaking food when my fridge was empty. I was a little jealous of them in that tech recession in the early part of the 2000

goto your states site and search payroll and they have a book listing the percentages taken for what's taken out of pay based upon what type of pay (base, commission/bonuses, tips, etc. then freqency of pay, weekly, bi weekly bi monthly and monthly)

when you get a base that avg's maybe 500 biweekly, but your commission is 900-1000, where do you think the most taxes are coming out of.

plain and simple philosophy.

come to work to open the store on time, or the store gets fined hundreds of dollars by the mall.

leave work at closing and not before so the store doesn't get fined.

don't do that and you lose your job. plain and simple.

but why even explain? not that you would comprehend such a simple thing being on the other side of the fence.

You most definitely get taxed at a much higher rate for commission. But I am not sure that is what we are talking about here. We are talking about the income limits imposed to be eligible to receive aid and benefits. In those cases the base salary is what is counted. Two different things.

You posed a question and I am showing you how she and I are looking at it from an employee perspective who might only be working because it is a part of the mandate that I have to be employed or actively seeking employment to get the benefits and keep it.

The state may list that crap on there website but basically it works like this . . . every six months(some states every year) you have reapply to the child care program . . . they request your pay stubs for the month that you are reapplying and they consider everything listed on that check stub . . . whether it be overtime or commission they look at it as potential income that you can make on a regular basis . . . and that is how they determine the amount you will be granted . . . the norm for daycare these days is newborn to age 2 anywhere from $220 to $275 per week . . . the cost goes down once the child is potty trained to about $180 to $200 and most of them give you a $50 discount if you have more than one child (sibling discount) . . . so in her world . . . it would be cheaper to remain in her current salary range . . . There maybe other factors and programs that she needs . . . such as housing assistance . . . My sister in law refuses to get a better paying job . . . because right now she is pay $350 for a 3 bedroom 2 bath 2 story townhome . . . and her kids are 19 and 15 . . . some people have all the luck . . . and they prorate her rent in the summer because she works for the public school system
