on and off i've been seeing this woman who has two kids. one thing i've noticed is that at dinner time everyone sits down and has dinner together. is this something that anyone here still does in this day and age? i think it helps that she has an actual dining room with a dining room table. although i have been to people's homes with dining room tables that are never used and that's a different story though.

if only she could cook  but going back to my original question does your family dine together?

When I was growing up my family always had dinner together. Today its rare to see that type of family. With both spouses working (some with 2 jobs) an each getting home at different hours you don't see it much anymore, even with kids.

Looking back those were good times.

when i go visit my fam in the south, we do it all the time and have big dinners after church on sunday

here in the north, we do it once in a while

i like it...i plan to do it with my family

I'm in a similar sitcho as you except she has one kid and she always eats together with her son. I found it a little weird to see a contemporary family do this (even though my fam did, time has changed since then).

I have very fond memories of eating dinner with my parents and brother and sister growing up. We always did it Sunday after church, but I remember it being a week night thing as well. I look forward to doing that whenever I go back home.

when I was younger my grandmother would fix me and my cousins plates and us two would eat together.. She would then keep my grandfathers plate warm until he got home... sometimes she ate with us, sometimes she didn't...

I want to do that when I have kids.. eat together.. since I don't have them now, me and my roommate eat together... does that count?

Growing up all the kids ate together but the adults never ate with us. I wish we ate as a family more I feel like we would have known each other better and wouldn't have fought as much. When I have a family dinner together will be mandatory.

When I was younger we ate sunday dinner together - the rest of the days were kinda hit and miss. I def. want a special day set aside for my whole family to have dinner together....

I like that idea of making it mandatory - to avoid the examples you mentioned...

When I was living with my parents, myself mum and dad and my siblings always sat around the table to have dinner. Mum ensured that this happened without fail. Mum also insisted that that we couldn't have dinner early until my dad came home from work.
