Even today, she would have put a lot of R&B bitches in their fucking place singing wise and personally.

Probably would have told Beyonce to take all that weave out her head...:lol::lol:

Told Mariah to fucking stop acting like a ditzy white chick :lol:

Here she is cutting up on Angela Bofill ...

P.S. - anyone else notice YouTube went to a widescreen format when you're on their site.

rip,,, but if she were alive today, she most likely wouldn't even be on the scene,,, she would've faded off like chaka khan, anita baker, stephanie mills & the rest of those chicks who could blow back in the day

Steph still around last album was pretty good

But yeah, I miss Phylis, I used to love the track from the school days soundtrack

She couldn't get those demons out of her head. :(

It's heartbreaking.

I used to sing this song all the time--loved it and loved her.

She was really something else. It was very sad news. :(

I use to walk by the Blue Note all the time.

One of her last performance was little further down. I walked by that too.

I just keep missing show dates. I didn't really get hip to that area until later.

i would stroll and hang out but I didn't go in.

Sorry I didn't got in for that last show. :(

Angela Bofill was the joint too. first time I've seen live footage of her.

Angie was the first full Latina to break through on the black R&B charts. I think she was Cuban and Rican or Dominican (I forget which).

And she was a cutey too - reminded me of Jake Steed's baby's momma, Tabitha, in the face.

Then she gained weight....

But she's really fucked up right now. She had to massive back-to-back strokes, the first in 06 then 07. Half her body is numb and functionless. Can't really speak well or sing. And she had no health insurance because I remember 3 or 4 benefit concerts being thrown for her.

Such a fucking shame how the music business can churn you out and leave you hard up after selling MILLIONS for someone.

:smh::smh::smh::smh::smh::smh::smh:

mann shit is funny, because i asked my peoples what was this lady name, because we was riding about a year ago, her music was on, so they told me the story behind her, and the things she was going through(rough times), kinda what i was dealing with at the time.

I was in a music thread, when I thought about her,I asked my peeps her name, I come back I scrolled down, the next reply was her, I was like what the hell.....

One of the greats. Also a shame Angela Bofill can't sing on account of the two strokes.

I think Hyman did a spread in Players when I was a kid. Beautiful women. I remember when Bofill was slim and on Soul Train. Gain a lot of weight. Horrible end to both women.

Hyman was 100x "crazier" than Mariah, and an unreliable performer (which is why she could never attain the kind of success some felt she deserved).

C/S. If these great singers were of this generation they never would have gotten signed in todays wack ass music scene.

Phyliss Hyman is the truth. my old man used to jam her religiously, swore that nigga was in love with her. she has one of the dopest voices ever.

Oh my ...Players was the Black Playboy magazine of the 70's and 80's. A precursor to Black Tail, etc.

The culturally deprived youth of today. Shame, shame.

Deprived? Negro, we got the INTERNET now.

Shit, I can get BGOL on my Blackberry. Who the fuck needs a magazine?

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

C/S Ol skool heads speak the truth! Musical Talent ol'skool compared to now it was about talent.

I had the pleasure to be her light man on one of her tours in the mid 80s. She was really a nice person. She always teased me about hating my light show. And I would always remind about the label being cheap and not giving the right tour support. She was one of my favorite people to work with back in the day.

Edit: Saw mention of a 1-hour documentary on TVOne November 30th at 10 pm (est) ... not sure if it was posted here already.

PS, props to the OP ... I had never seen her and Angela together. Funny, one for some reason always made me think of the other.
