No, prior to SI. He was involved in some accident, they mentioned it in Civil War, but they never said what. Now if you peeped this issue, it had to be something major cause the man ain't got a body (more or less) anymore.

I know he was fused with some type of alien armor at one point.
But I had no idea he was only 30-40% human.

I just read on his Wiki Page the The HULK fucked him up like that:
