Is a college degree important? Ask this woman.

um yea it is but you can't get a bullshit degrees for the sake of getting one an you need to get internships and vol, and fuck it sometimes the job market has no room for you , but i seen some cats do it without one like folks in the union's like plumbers ect ect.

Fucked up circumstances :smh:

Used to be I'd clown her, but man, shit is ugly out here, and even if you've got no debts and a decent job, one bad break can fuck it all up (medical bills, etc)

I've been listening to Dave Ramsey hardcore for the past year, and I'm feeling his debt-free message......about the only thing I'm down to finance anymore is a crib, if it's a car, I'm paying cash and owning it free and clear, anything else that goes on the credit card gets paid off in full at the end of the month (strictly for the cash back); if I don't have the cash for it, I don't get it unless its an ABSOLUTE emergency, point blank.

Homegirl is SOL on the car till she gets a gig and some loot to get it back, but she should be able to get a forbearance on the student loans for unemployment till she gets back on her feet.

Lot of folks with degrees and no jobs right about now though, I considered myself blessed.

What is her degree in...? What are her spending habits...? How much debt did she accumulate...? What job/career did she have...? Dumb ass title...shit is just tough on folks out there and anyone can get hit under the right circumstances...

Debt-free is the way to go! All I owe is my crib...
Takes a lot of pressure off of you...

Truth man, truth!

This doesn't diminish the importance of a college education. The woman didn't go into detail, but its important what degree you get and how well you've done in school. You can owe 40 thousand in student loans off a 2.0 gpa and a non-accredited online degree. You can spend 40 thousand getting a degree in Latin. Shit theres plenty of non-accredited schools around my way.

Unfortunately, just because one has a college degree does not entitle them to a comfortable life. There are 21 y/o graduates with $200,000 debt from top-tier schools who have to wait on the sidelines because wallstreet is imploding.

I hope she can pull it together. I know a girl who was dodging the repo man by parking the car in a relative's garage or a few blocks over at a friend's house.

And damn, Fayetteville and Pinehurst so I'm guessing thats NC. There were alot of luxury cars on that lot. The damn lot was overflowing they can slow down on that repo shit

Not worth the paper it's printed on these days :smh: This is coming from someone with 2.

Nigga please, when applying for a job against somebody with NO degree, you'll get the job over that person. The fuck you talking about? What do you have your degree in? Baking?

as far as the college degree thing. it's important. but not as important as having good people's skillz and network. cause you could have a degree in whatever but if you can't sell yourself you might aswell not have a HSD. but if you don't have a degree you MIGHT have a shot if you got game and can prove you know your shit. of course you have a way better shot if you have both.

Depends on your job/career...

People skills don't mean shit when a good job won't even accept applicants with NO degree. What the fuck is that going to do? "Yo I got good people skills son". Don't nobody give a fuck.

Nigga gonna smooth talk his way into being a surgeon or some shit...

Depends on what your degree is in ... where you live ... your experience.

But her mistake was thinking a college degree = $$$

No silly, hustle = $$$

A college degree = A few more choices/open doors.

Fuck dat.....she has a degree and could make good money as an officer.

I'd be paying the nearest Air Force recruiter a visit...

Your statement is not always true. CACs are using nepotism to their advantage more than ever.

Anyway I have a great job with good pay and an excellent benefits package  , but some of my friends don't and these are guys with BA/MA/MS. I still feel like for some of this shit a degree isn't even necessary, but I have them as an insurance policy.

Who majors in Banking? I've never even seen that.

Shit like this is making me nervous about graduating this semester.

You are about to enter into a turbulent job market man. This financial crisis shit is real and affects everyone below executive level. If your internships have been tight and you have some good contacts, you'll be fine. Otherwise you might want to delay graduation and get into an internship class or start applying for temp positions. You have to use every avenue in this economy...just don't get discouraged if it doesn't happen for you immediately.

Naw dude no internships. Just some volunteer experience, 2 jobs that really don't pertain to anything I'd want to do, and a BA in Economics with a mediocre GPA (2.9) and a minor\business certificate from our business school.

I'm fucked.

Im going to make this a black, white or 'check other' issue..

Is a college degree important? The answer is Yes and No....
She is the exception but her situation would change QUICKLY if she were to move to a new city or state. A college degree IS important if you are of 'ethnic' decent. If you're White a degree in alot of cases doesn't matter. In ALOT of situations a white guy might interview for a Job, hes totally unqualified but he knows 'Bob' and made the interviewer comfortable so he gets the Job. A Black guy walks for the SAME interview and his credentials are already being searched for and questioned

A financial education along with financial intelligence are the keys to having a successful life....

One can get a degree but still be unemployed..

One can have a degree a be employed an worked for some of the "best" companies in the world, and still lose his/her job overnight(Lehmans, WaMu, Bear Sterns, Enron, Worldcom, etc...)

One can obtain a degree an never have to worry about being employed but will always be at the mercy of that company or individual you are working for....

The key is to create cash, capital, cash-flow, outside of your job or employment; So if and or when you are layoff, pissed off, or fucked over by your job, you have the ability to still live the lifestyle you want; THAT TAKES FINANCIAL INTELLIGENCE!!!

I agree with you, but hes only saying what all these rich cats are practicing; If you read other books like E-Myth, Automatic Wealth, Ready Fire Aim, etc... they are all saying the same thing; You just have to be willing to listen to it and apply it...

I've had CEO's of companies tell me that they had employees with no degree but experience that were just as capable of doing the job...

GOTDAMNIT, what are you doin' in this thread?

Oh by the way, to the OP, HELL NAW!!!:smh::smh::smh:

A degree allows you to be turned down and turned away for better opportunities. That is what that shit affords you. Nothing less, nothing more. I have spent the last 4 years working on my financial intelligence and I am about to be ALLLRIIIIGHT!

:smh::smh::lol::lol::lol::lol: These clowns don't see the bigger picture. A BA/BS is a gateway to graduate school. With no BA/BS no MA, With NO BA/BS no Ph.D. With no BA/BS No MD. It gives you options, with a BA/BS you have options to go back and get higher degree's if you feel like shit's not going right for you. Simple minded fucks. Your first mistake is getting a degree to get rich.

But Dr. Truth, how many people pick up a BS/BA with the INTENT of becoming a "professional" student. From my research, not very many. If you go to school for 8 years, you meant to from the beginning and by that damn time you are "owed" a "decent" salary.

However, that sh!t is not guaranteed. The big picture is know you are in the matrix and spend all of your breathing hours on learning how to get OUT.

:smh:8 Years? for what? Post BA med school and Residency? You can get a masters in 1-2 years. MBA included. I went to school to learn and meet people. The contacts you obtain in college are priceless. You are in school with the future leaders of the world. These people help you advance in life. College sparked my interest in shit I would never have given a second thought to. Medicine being one, which I am now apart of. I learned so much in college that alone is worth more than anything.
