I just heard it on NFL Live. I didn't check the main board before I posted. But I had to post this.
When I was a kid, "This is the NFL" from NFL Films taught me football. In the intro you see the big half-dollar eyes of Mike Singletary and you hear his voice yell, "I like this kinda party". This was 1986 and I was 9 years old. This was before everybody and their momma had a pre-game show. At the time my favorite team was the 49'ers and the Bears (before I knew that I was supposed to root for the Cleveland Browns because of my roots). Football was my life. Singletary was one of the first players I knew.
When Singletary retired everybody wondered why he didn't go into coaching. He simply said he wanted to spend time with his kids. Many people believed he would make a great coach. He broke into coaching a few years ago with the Ravens and then with the 49'ers. He interviewed for a head coaching gig but didn't get it. When they were talking about firing Mike Nolan, I thought they were gonna peg mike Martz. Hell, I thought that is why Martz went there in the first place...to get his foot back into head coaching. instead they gave the keys to Singletary. They could not have picked a better guy for the job.
