My father have been a Baptist Minister all of my life so I was raised in Church. However, as I have grown older, I have develop doubts in my mind about God and faith-which I don't really want to have but I have questions that no one can seem to answer. My question is why do you believe in God? What has he done for you? and How do you develop faith in something that is not tangible?

I cant look at my daughter and doubt the existence of God. That may sound corny but it's true.

actually in your case that would prove the opposite. how can there be a god? why would he punish an innocent little girl and give her a bitch like you for the father? :hmm:

PAUSE!!

:lol::lol::lol:

When you stop putting "God" as a person, entity, or a "thing".... it starts to make living easier. I believe God is "Life" and all things that happen in "Life". And in "Life" there is some things we don't NEED to know. Just enjoy it and make the best out of it!

Because "GOD" is an almighty being that is not concerned about a single innocent little child.

Come now....if you were a being that could span the concepts of space and time (which no human can do) would you really be concerned about a little child?

To me....we have our fates al ready written, and "God" intervenes when it wants to.

"God" watches.

I know I was indoctrinated by my parents as a child to be a Christian. I'm an adult now-a free thinker is what I can be. Yet, I'm scared to move away from that part of my life. I want to have unwavering faith. I was trying to gain faith in the lord by asking for just a piece of mind but it's been 3 years and nothing. I thought that ,maybe, if he gave me that that would prove that he was real but I got nothing.

Why even start? You ,by far, are the most annoying person on this board. Welcome back to my ignore list.

Faith cant be tangible....cant answer that question.

It's impossible to describe "faith" to someone who wants an object or idea to "exist" in order to be real.

Just worry about your faith.

Dont question someone else's faith.

If you dont have any....then the discussion ends there.

It is what it is

What kind of God would allow something like this to happen? Anybody?

An almighty being would not intervene on every incident of sadness and despair.

We are talking about "God"....GOD...you cant comprehend the concept.

Trying to judge something that has always existed using "human logic" is futile and naive.

That child's hunger was caused by MAN....not God.

Cosmic logic cant be comprehended by the human mind....we are finite.

I personally have studied religion and all incarnations of faith for over 20 years and I have come to an unmistakeable conclusion....Church,Religion,Faith,Belief..etc has nothing to do with GOD. Ill touch on the Baptist Church briefly. The only reason you were raised this way was because you were born in this era, under this gov't,in this country at this time in history. If you were born 150 years ago you would have been a slave and not allowed to worship,if you were born 50 years ago in China you would be Buddist or if you were born in Egypt you would be Jewish or Muslim. Those circumstances are not governed by GOD but by ...MAN. Humans control religion and have since time began as a means to control other people and to explain things they cant answer(why are we here, are we alone in the universe, what happens when you die...etc).GOD by defintion is perfect thereby everything was created perfect but it wasnt created by GOD. What that means is lets sayfor example GOD wants a river to be created, religious people say that GOD said let there be a river and there was a river.I believe that GOD didnt do that, instead he created a rock at the top of a mountain and through millions of years of wind, rain, eroison and time that rock began to roll down the mountian bringing with it tons of rock and gravel until it slams into the cavern beneath the mountain upon doing this a crack developed in the sediment and water began to stream to the top and over millions of years of a contant stream of water it eventually filled up the cavern and you get a RIVER. Now did GOD create the river or did GOD create the system by which the river came about. That is the beauty of GOD not the belief in a old man with a white beard in the sky. It is very complex subject but look to the universe and study what makes since and the answers are there but do not be clouded by religion cause it can cause you to not understand GOD.

Christians say that you cannot comprehend God because he is so mi ghty and advanced but all through the bible he acts like a Human Woman...vindictive, jealous, and ruthless.

Just like an ant that doesn't understand how the Eiffel Tower or the Great Wall Of China was built, I'm smart enough to know that I'm not smart enough to understand the work of the architect of the universe.
The problem with most men (including the bible thumpers) is that they are too arrogant to admit that they don't know or understand who or what God really is.
I'm not into all of the "stories" any more than I believe in that ridiculous big bang bullshit.
I believe in a divine architect and I believe that he ain't fucked up about the ants in his universe(s).

So if "God" is just going to sit back, and do nothing while a vulture waits for a child to die of hunger for fucksakes, then why spend so much time praising "Him" and asking "Him" to provide you with blessings? So many religious folks I've met are stuck on stupid thinking that "God" is going to provide them with abundance, instead of getting off their ass and actually doing something.

I say, if there is a God, it already gave us the ability to do for ourselves. So stop singing and shouting and praying and praising into the sky for some hollow shit that aint going to happen.

My father passed away recently. He was born a baptist, but converted to Islam. From the time I was a young child, I always had the belief in God. It has never been an option not to believe. It's really a question of mind over matter. I get all my strength from God. Although I cannot see Him, I feel in my heart and soul that He is here with me. I could CHOOSE not to believe, but that would go against everything that I am. We all have free will, and we can use that free will as we choose. As for starvation, war, crime, poverty and everything else that is born of evil, it is all the work of man, not God. If God could control the actions of man we would be living in a Utopian society.

Not just woman...but men are the same.

People have tried to conceptualize "God" by giving "God" human traits that cross gender lines.

It's what humans do to attempt to understand what they cant.

Just like how people tend to refer to "God" using "He" or "Him".

Personification of something that cant be understood.

GOD has nothing to do with this situation or any other one. One could ask why didnt GOD stop 400 years of slavery or even stop Hitler,or stop the planes that hit on 9/11.The reason is simple. Our day to day exsistence is of a physical nature to achieve a higher purpose spiritually. We are not pupphets to be controlled at the whims of a cosmic entity if we were what would be the purpose. We have free will to do whatever we wanna do. We have the economics on this planet to wipe out all hunger,poverty,crime,etc...but WE choose to not do this as people cause we are greesy for money,power,etc.. and when things go to shit we blame GOD who had nothing to do with it. Its up to us to straigten up this mess if not we will destroy this system and we will meet the same fate as the dinosaurs.

I feel you on this.....irregardless of that bs posted by Doglife...must be something personal there.

at any rate it is amazing to me that people always refer to God being 'intangible"....I guess what they mean is THEY cannot see him with their naked eye
However he is manifested in everything you do or don't do>

I mean if you want to speak about intangible shit.....just consider that which most people find tangible....."

SCIENCE"

The "Theory of Relativity" to this day still remains a theory...and yet so much of modern Technology is based off a Theory that has never been proven to be a Law(fact)

We accept the reality of The atomic and subatomic world and yet Not one atom has ever been seen.....The most that Microscopy has managed is a trail purported to be that of an atom...yet most accept these things as tangible reality

Now Look at what you can of The stars and planets of gravity and The cycles of the days and seasons....The miracle of conception and gestation and birth of Human life....

Look at how regular and precise these things occur and the reality that man cannot duplicate them....I believe you are a fool to believe all this occured by sheer chance as most atheist do (and there are a lot of them on this board)

The factors that effect the world and are Hidden.....far outweigh those things you can see.....

For sure this argument will continue to rage on till man is no more......But I believe that God is mos def tangible...if you open your eyes and remov the schackles of doubt from your mind

I say, if there is a God, it already gave us the ability to do for ourselves. So stop singing and shouting and praying and praising into the sky for some hollow shit that aint going to happen.

I say....just let people do what pleases them.

If someone wants to shout every Sunday, then so be it.

If you want to stay at home and watch the games every Sunday then so be it.

My thing is....why be concerned about people who are not you and yours?

If GOD is a concept beyond human comprehension, then who/what are YOU talking about, human?

Im talking about humility.

Im talking about admitting that there is something greater than everything and is beyond our comprehension.

And i have faith that there is more to existence than making more money than the next man...

Imagine how fucked up the universe would be if one's credit score determined his or her soul's "zenith".
