DO NOT wear any OBAMA Paraphernalia when you go to vote.

Taken from the Obama/Biden webpage.

It is not a violation of law for a voter to wear into the polling place a button, tee-shirt, hat or other article of clothing with a campaign message on it, so long as the voter leaves the polling place promptly after voting. No Challenger or Watcher may wear such campaign paraphernalia in the polling place. Election judges or any other person who is authorized to remain in or near a polling place for an extended period of time is prohibited from wearing political paraphernalia while inside the polling place.

A few days ago an email started circulating through the internet concerning election paraphernalia being worn on election day. The question regarding this was even addressed on Warren Ballentine's radio talk yesterday.

Being involved in voter registrations I did a little research on this myself. Federal law it seems states that T-shirts, hats and buttons can be worn as long as there is no politicking taking place. But the problem seems to be with state laws. Although most states have similar laws interpretation of those laws is the problem in particular when dealing with a police officer or election offical who may have a personal agenda or not know the laws.

Most states allow the wearing of political gear. However it's in everyone's best interest to avoid a situations that could prevent you from voting. My suggestion is to not wear any campagin gear when heading to the polls. What's important is to get your vote in!

Thanks Duece.

While it'd would nice to see the women of SOL voting naked, I think we should encourage our women to be clothed when voting.

I work at the polls and here in Louisiana it is strickly forbidden..Pollster will be asked to cover up the shirt or to turn it inside out. It is also a crime to poll within 500 feet of a poll place..The fine is $500 and 30 days in jail.

Yeah, I'm in New Orleans, I've told everybody leave the Obama shirts, buttons or anything at home, don't even dress your children in Obama stuff.

what if you wear a "nixon 08* shirt?

That was my plan.....

*supports the dirtiest of all dirty republicans*

Ok check this out, I went to vote today at a local election here in New Orleans, the first machine I went into did not work so I asked for help, I was then moved to another machine that worked correctly, I casted my votes and made my way out to go to work. Before I could leave to get on with my day an agent (forgot what department she was from) asked me if the machines worked and if I recieved help and she also asked if I was Hispanic. She explained that she was doing this to make sure that elections where being carried out correctly and if people where receiving adequate help if they needed it and that were doing this to prepare for the General election. I first thought it was strange because apart from Bill Jefferson's congressional seat, this is mostly a local election. But after what she said it is some what reasurring that they are doing this.

Good post...

No need for someone to harass you or do something to prevent you from voting...They can't tell who you're with if you don't have on paraphernalia...

but in the meantime,

OBAMA '08!
