The Falcons are offering discounted tickets to their season-opener in an effort to sellout the Georgia Dome and avoid a television blackout.

The team sent out an e-mail Tuesday offering $10 off single-game ticket prices to Sunday’s game against Detroit.

As off Monday, the team announced that 2,500 tickets were still available. According to NFL rules, a game must be sold out 72 hours prior to kickoff to be televised locally. The Falcons had two games blacked out last season.

The e-mail read: “With promising rookie Matt Ryan at the helm, Head Coach Mike Smith’s Atlanta Falcons charge into a new era of football this Sunday at the Georgia Dome when they host the Detroit Lions in the season opener.

And we’re giving you $10 off the price of limited single game tickets when you order online between now and midnight Thursday. A limited number of are available starting at just $35. …

A packed house. A shiny new Dome. And a team you can be proud of. All we need now … is YOU!”

Man those stands have been empty since my dad used to make me go to those weak ass games back when they used to play at Fulton County stadium back in the day. When you have a team thats a constant cellar dweller no one comes. Look at how the Omni used to be packed out back when Dominique and Spud Webb used to play for the Hawks. Now you can get 2 tickets, 2 t-shirts and 2 chick fil-a meals in a package for like $30 bucks to Hawks games. And the games are STILL empty.

When Vick was there the games were packed because they wanted to see him...but before that... And the few fans they do have are bandwagon as hell.

Honestly that's what they get for trumping out a subpar team that's going to suck and act like folks were supposed to get behind them b/c they had the "a GM that was coming from the Patriots organization" and still charging full-price. Should have been dropped the ticket prices on the squad!

I'm a Falcons fan but they have to understand that you can't expect people to spend all kinds of $ for a team that sucks like that. I used to be hard on my fellow Falcons fans for being so fairweather, but fuck that. Outside of the Skins and a small amount of other teams...when folks squads are losing people don't show.
