2)She shores up his conservative credentials.
3)Neuters Biden- he can't go after her for fear of being seen as a bully
4)In one fell swoop they totally wiped the Obama event off of the airwaves. Despite all the grandeur and pageantry of last night-- with the 85,000 people and the speech finally giving some details to what Obama plans to do-- this move knocked it off the front page. For the next week all people will be doing is talking about Palin.

If Obama had picked Hillary, no one (except McCain picking Colin Powell) could have knocked them off the front pages and he would have shored up the PUMA voters and their passion and money.

Your assessment is completely wrong. This pick isn't even known on the national level. The election is at the beginning of November. If McCain was going to pander to women, he should've at least went with someone they wouldn't have to try to introduce to the public in less than three months.

Their campaign is deperate and it shows by this pick.

You folks are failing to see the WHOLE picture here. She is most likely being chosen for the party's future in the White House. Their assumption is that McCain can win this thing, but is only good for one term. We know Hillary is secretly hoping for a McCain victory so she can run in four years. After all, she has proven herself to be a strong candidate. However, her loss has given the Republicans an advantage. They have had a chance to see what her appeal is and examine her weak points. So they choose a woman who has real experience running government. They choose a woman who is in her forties. This woman, if elected, will have spent fours years in the White House, not simply as a wife, but as a vice president. She will be groomed to run in 2012 against Hillary. She will have a very high profile role. By then, the public will know her better than Hillary. Hillary will have the disadvantage of having lost and will be in her sixties. I'd say it's a smart move as they managed to take back the headlines only one day after the Democratic Convention.

Of course, this assumes Obama loses. It's a chess game and the Republicans have made their calculated move. Hillary is probably more pissed than anyone. This election will be close. Don't sleep.
