BREAKING NEWS: DJ K-Swift Dies In Baltimore

Did she drown? I called a friend in B-More. He said she hit her head.

What's the deal offically?

BALTIMORE (WJZ) ― Music fans in Baltimore are in mourning.

A popular and groundbreaking DJ at a top radio station is dead, and now city police are investigating.

Adam May reports the body of 29-year-old Khia Edgerton, also known as "K-Swift" was found Monday morning at her northeast Baltimore home in the 4300-block of Arizona Avenue.

Police initially responded to Good Samaritan Hospital for crowd control. They interviewed people there.

Fans are in absolute shock. They organized a vigil at the Woodlawn radio station 92Q where K-Swift was a DJ.

Messages of mourning could be heard on the airwaves between shows on 92Q Monday after K-Swift's death. She was first put on air by Neke Howse. "I have this insight that I can just tell. I just knew she has it, or had it," said Howse.

There are now growing questions surrounding her death.

They say K-Swift was giving a pool party at her home earlier in the day. They're investigating whether or not she consumed alcohol before getting into the pool.

Witnesses told police there were several people in the pool when Edgerton jumped in, but none of the swimmers were alarmed when she didn't immediately resurface.

"I've known her so long, and it just hurts cause I'm waiting for her to hit me on Yahoo! To instant message or text me, just walk through the studio doors, and she's not," said K-Swift's best friend DJ Kelson.

There were also lifeguards present.

After time had passed and she still didn't surface, they got alarmed and jumped in.

They were able to pull her out to the side of the pool. Medics were called but no one at the party attempted CPR while they were waiting.

When medics got there, they attempted CPR to no avail. She was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

When police arrived at the house to investigate the pool was very cloudy and the area was dimly lit.

K-Swift was the co-host of Off the Hook Radio, heard Monday through Friday from 6-10pm on 92Q. K-Swift began working at Radio One over 10 years ago as an intern in the programming department.

During that time, she held the positions of on air personality, on air mixer, and mix show coordinator.

"She's going to be truly missed. We love her, and I never realized that I would feel this way for a co-worker that's a family member. We've been together since she was 17-years-old, so it's hard. It's really hard," said DJ Konan.

The station's general manager Howard Mazer says finding a replacement will be impossible.

"Not only was she great at what she did with mixing and creating her mixtapes, but just her personality was really special. And she was loved by people in Baltimore, really loved by people at the station," said Mazer.

Now her studio is empty and her mic silent.

"This is an incredible loss not only for Radio One, but for the entire community and music industry" said Neke Howse, Program Director of WERQ. "K-Swift was an incredible talent and human being. Not only am I fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with her for the past 10 years but also to be her friend."
K-Swift's career was not limited to radio broadcasting. K-Swift was a popular night club DJ who was featured at several weekly events in Baltimore.

She also owned her own graphics, production, and management company, "Club Queen Entertainment".

K-Swift also had very strong ties to the community and loved working with children. She hosted several events for teens every year in addition to hosting many different charity events.

"Her love and passion for everything she did was the key to her success" said Howard Mazer, General Manager of Radio One Baltimore. "She is truly a person that both the radio and music industry will miss."

I listen to 92Q more than I listen to the local station here in D dot. Baby girl was pretty thorough with her mixes too. R.I.P. You will be missed!

Khia "K-Swift" Edgerton, one of the city's most popular radio DJs and performers, died early Monday morning after a pool accident at her home. She was 29.

The cause of death was unclear, but an autopsy was planned.

According to a preliminary police investigation, Edgerton, who lived in the 4300 block of Arizona Ave. in Northeast Baltimore, had been hosting a party at her house through Sunday evening and into early this morning. Police investigators believe she may have been drinking, said agent Donny Moses, a Baltimore police spokesman.

During the party early this morning, she jumped into her above-ground pool with several other people, but didn't resurface. About six or seven other people were in the pool, which was about 4 or 5 feet deep, during the time she had jumped in. After an unspecified period of time, her friends pulled her onto a metal-frame deck that adjoined the pool, and called 911.

On the Web: 92Q's Web site When paramedics arrived, they discovered that Edgerton was breathing "very shallow and her pulse was weak," Moses said. She was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital where she was pronounced dead soon after her arrival.

Edgerton, known as the "Club Queen," introduced a younger generation to Baltimore's club scene and helped breathe new life into an aging genre. Born in Baltimore, she started working at WERQ-FM 92.3 10 years ago as a mixer and worked her way up the ranks.

Five years ago, she began hosting a popular club music show from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on WERQ-FM 92.3, which earned her a widespread fan base in and around Baltimore.

Edgerton performed live at clubs up and down the East Coast, spreading Baltimore's dance music to other cities. She appealed to a large demographic of listeners and concertgoers, said 92Q station manager Howard Mazer.

"She had an enormous following and meant a lot to the people of Baltimore," he said. "People just gravitated to her. ... When she threw parties, thousands of people would come."

Edgerton owned a graphics and production company and was the city's only female record pool director. She performed at Artscape Saturday and was scheduling concerts overseas for the coming months, Mazer said.

"It's a terrible loss to all of us and the city of Baltimore," Mazer said.

Just sad...I saw her spinning @ Artscape on Saturday. My prayers are with her family and friends and the whole "Q'munity" God needed a DJ...R.I.P. K-Swift..you're forever the Club Queen

Shit ain't adding up to me. How somebody gonna jump into a pool, not come up for air, and nobody is alarmed until some time has passed??? Plus the fact that you had lifeguards present and none of them performed CPR on her while they were waiting for the paramedics is odd too.

Never knew K-Swift was a female. . . .Her club mixes were hot.

Rest In Peace. I hope she is in a good place.

Yeah, that's what the authorities are sayin', that's why they got it under investigation....

driving through Baltimore several times, K-Swift and her hot house mixes got me hyped in my car more than a few times. For her to go like this is saddening to say the least. Rest easy Queen, hope you find peace on the other side.

The article states that there were other people in the pool at the time she jumped in. The time passed is unspecified so we really don't know how much time actually passed before people got worried and pulled her out, but the fact that there were lifeguards there and none of them performed CPR is fishy.

yeah the details around this is real suspect... i guess i just want somebody to answer for this...someone to fuckin blame or sumthin...

i heard about this this modning and im STILL tryna grasp my head around it...

Man yall sittin at the computer talkin bout "something fishy" but you gotta realize it was a party. They just "sayin" alcohol was consumed but niggas was most likely FUCKED UP! There was probly drugs there as well. Now you mix high niggas, drugs and alcohol, and body in a pool. You gone call 911 but everybody tryin to hide them extasy pills, the weed, coke and whatever else is on premises. Mufuckas wit warrants is shittin bricks.

Mufuckas was high as fuck. The lifegaurds was probly fucked up too. That's why nobody noticed her under for so long.

This isn't about her looks. This isn't about her weight gain or weight loss. It's not even about whether she knew how to swim or not. This is about a young lady who touched many in a positive way and died in the prime of her life. Although her physical body will no longer be with us, her presence will always be felt. Even though I missed her at Artscape this year, she will always be with us. God bless you and your family Kia.
