‘Dark Knight’ Prediction: $130M Weekend

It’s understandable even if ridiculous that Warner Bros keeps trying to
lower everyone’s expectations for this behemoth blockbuster of a Batman Begins sequel. My sources at the studio keep insisting that Dark Knight will “only” make $90 million to $100 million for its opening 3-day weekend. I can’t believe they’re seriously suggesting that Dark Knight will make less than Iron Man.
But the WB insiders point to all the increased competition at the
megaplex now as opposed to the beginning of May. Whereas my box office
gurus are predicting domestic gross as high as $130M for the wildly
anticipated Christopher Nolan/Christian Bale film because of all
those record-breaking early ticket sales at North American runs,
including IMAX. That would put it 3rd in terms of all-time opening
3-day weekends — behind Spider-Man 3 ($151.1M on May 4-6, 2007)and Pirates Of The Caribbean 2: Dead Man’s Chest
($131.6M on July 7, 2006). One worry mitigating the Heath Ledger fanboy
factor which Hollywood has mentioned is that the pic’s 2 hour and 32
minute running time will limit showings. But that isn’t an issue
anymore since many theater managers/owners plan round-the-clock
screenings during its midnight July 18 mega-debut. Heck, even the staid
New York Times is gushing all giddy about the pic in its news
pages, even citing meaningless polls that moviegoers are so hot for the
pic they’ll take the day off next Friday just to see it

Fuck a box office prediction!!! I dont give a damn how many people go see it. I just want to see a good movie...

hopefully enough people won't jack it or bootleg it so that the numbers look good enough for them to make another one - if this one is good.

bootlegging is gonna happen regardless, but i think this is about to smash every box office record because its gonna have possibly the most diverse movie crowd EVER!

-nerds and fanboys that have been in line since feb.
-hipsters ready to claim a fallen actor as the goat (ledger is already getting oscar buzz)
-homos (brokeback joker)
-general summer movie goers
-chicks that have been drunken with the ledger tragedy on access hollywood
-the curious occasional movie goer that wants to get with the latest thing (last seen at the matrix revolutions)

trust, I don't think there are enough bootleggers in the world that could stop Warner Brothers from making another one.

It will break the record which is like 160... I heard someone say something about competition. Nobody went to see Hellboy. Hancock dropped 47% It will do $70 million friday.

Hellboy was the SHIZNIT IMO. The CGI was seamless, the story had a good pace, there was love - but it was not mushy and most important there was fighting and the full range of the characters powers were shown with great fight scenes. This movie should be killing!!! I know people jacked it. I want HB3.

I just read the the Hulk series may bee doomed - good. They both sucked to me. However, Batman Begins was the way a comic book movie should be done. Hollywood looks at the box office numbers more than the appreciation of comic book readers who like a product that does not gross 500 mill world wide. I just don't trust the suits.

I hope you are right.:yes::yes:

I don't think it is that far off. I mean people had been begging for this movie since the first one and knew it was coming. This movie was getting major buzz before Heath died, now its being said it could be the greatest movie ever. We'll see...

This movie can easily surpass $130 million. The only sticking point will be how many shows each theater will play due to the length of the movie. Most likely, there will be multiple shows playing at the same time to increase profits.

Hellboy was number one homie with nearly 35 mil. Hancock of course dropped off , that's natural for any movie but it still came in a strong 2nd place with 33 mill and has made $365 million worldwide after only its 2nd week.:dance::dance:

Hell I've given my $35 already to the cause.

Last week I purchased (2) tickets online to the IMAX showing opening night

The Great Debaters earned $30.2M total. :smh:

That was a great movie but they pumped over 100 Million in marketing the Dark Knight..:eek:

The Great Debaters had about 10 million in marketing.. If even that...

This flick is 2hours and 30 mins. Thats crazy. I dont get into the corny ass prediction shit, but I wish I was getting a piece.

i think this may be the best batman movie since the first one where Jack played the Joker.

[sarcasm] Word on the street is that it MIGHT beat Batman & Robin's total take at the box office. That might be stretchin' it though ... that film was a 1990s classic right there. Ain't nothin' fuckin' with that film/ [/sarcasm]

:rolleyes::D
