Wubi is an officially supported Ubuntu installer for Windows users that can bring you to the Linux world with a single click. Wubi allows you to install and uninstall Ubuntu as any other Windows application, in a simple and safe way. Are you curious about Linux and Ubuntu? Trying them out has never been easier!

Wubi is Simple

No need to burn a CD. Just run the installer, enter a password for the new account, and click "Install", go grab a coffee, and when your are back, Ubuntu will be ready for you.
Wubi is Safe

You keep Windows as it is, Wubi only adds an extra option to boot into Ubuntu. Wubi does not require you to modify the partitions of your PC, or to use a different bootloader, and does not install special drivers. It works just like any other application. Wubi is spyware and malware free, and being open source, anyone can verify that.
Wubi is Discrete

Wubi keeps most of the files in one folder, and if you do not like it, you can simply uninstall it as any other application.
Wubi is Free

How do I install Ubuntu?

Run Wubi, insert a password for the new account, and click "install". The installation process from this point is fully automatic. The installation files (700MB) will be downloaded and checked, after which you will be asked to reboot. Do so and select Ubuntu at the boot screen. The installation will continue for another 10-15 minutes and the machine will reboot again. This is it. Now you can select Ubuntu at the boot screen and start using it.


How do I uninstall it?

You uninstall it as any other applications. In Windows go to the control panel and select "Add or Remove Programs", then select Wubi/Ubuntu and uninstall it. You can also use the uninstaller that you find in the installation folder.

How do I select whether to run Windows or Ubuntu?

When you reboot you can choose to run Windows or Ubuntu.

I have this joint installed and it works without fucking up your computer. I've noticed a few issues when loading the new version of Ubuntu, but that was in the beta version. I'm sure they've ironed those out.

So you need to have Ubuntu on CD along with Wubi. Am I understanding this right?

got it on a seperate partion just in case windows starts playing the fool,it seems alright.I didnt need a CD to install just wubi.
 
I have had this for maybe 6 months.

Easy install, doesn't mess anything up.

All you need is the wubi exe...everything else is downloaded automatically.
 
Linux sucks for one reason, the way you have to install, download programs is just bad. Maybe it's because I'm used to Windows and how easy it is but finding th app manager and all that crap is just bad.

Sounds like you never tried Ubuntu....:smh: Ubuntu was mad easy for me.

try again...but this time install an application call automatix...it takes the hard work out of installing programs....but wait holdf up...doing an apt-get install 'name of program'...was too hard foryou to do!?!?!? on second thought ...dont try again..you dont seem like you have the brain capacity for Linux....:lol:
 
I've used it.

Loved it.

But i made a mistake with it. So I have to re-install.

I used the Ubuntu OS.

But I may go to Kubuntu this time out.
 
If they only knew how stupid it sounds to be saying "Ubuntu" about everything and every situation... Ubuntu means "humaness", and nothing more ...

And windows are used in cars, houses and freezer doors. So what is your point? Ubuntu can only have one application?

I stopped using Ubuntu last year. Dont have time to fuck with it to use it the way I want to. Maybe I will take the plunge again. But I cant use Ubuntu. Have to go back to Gentoo or Debian or Slack or BSD - something to feel elitist about ;)

thanks, this is just what I needed, since a nigga is too lazy to defrag and partition my shit and do all that dual boot shit.
 
i aint gonna front i installed dis on anutha desktop
im impressed there r sum issues but dats happens with many OS's

but so far im learning each day on navigating ubuntu os
im diggin it

Weird that this thread is "live" again.

Because I searched for it to re-install Wubi this morning.

So I'm on a double-boot trip again.

I did miss running Ubuntu.
So I thought I'd give it another go-round.
 
That Ubuntu wouldnt install on my system a while ago so I tried Kubuntu and it installed just fine.

Ubuntu coexists perfectly with Vista 64 and XP on my computers. So, I don't see the point of this. But, more power to whoever wants it.

I'm trying Wubi now aftering hearing about it on a TWIT podcast. I'm loving it. I have ubuntu
on a standalone P3 machine that only does downloads and file sharing. Its nice to be trying
it my main desktop. Now to set it up for daily use.
