Did you see the free agency article in the DMN? They had some decent targets for us. On the espn list, I'd like to see us go after:
Pietrus- athletic defender & can shoot
Matt Barnes- good glue guy, can defend/shoot/run the floor
James Jones-tough defender, can shoot, got a mean streak
*Ryan Gomes-dude's a beast, but the twolves wont let him walk
*Tony Allen-athletic, can defend, can shoot
You know we almost had Maggette in a trade for Jet during the season, but Sterling overrode Dunleavy & nixed the deal

We can't even get Diop back by giving him the whole mid-level. Pitiful. They talk about James Posey but don't say shit about Mavs getting him lol. Stats don't show what dude is though. He's a presence in the paint. Him and Devin were the only reason we even beat the Spurs two years ago even though Manu played a huge part in that by fouling Dirk for the and 1. He's 10x's better than Dampier. Both have soft hands but atleast Diop is a presence in the paint. And from where he was in Cleveland to what he became with the Mavs? There's potential there. Most centers don't really develop until about 27 or 28 anyway. He got some time.
We got the wrong dude. Kidd is great in open space & running the floor, but that shit doesn't work long term. The guy we needed was Cassell. I was telling my niggas after the Finals we needed to sign him since he was a free agent. It was obvious then that we needed veteran leadership & someone to mentor Harris & that year Cassell did a helluva job wit the clippers & livingston. We had a second chance this year, when he was bought out. We could've kept Harris & brought him off the bench.

Who Diop? He's a presence in the paint. Zero athleticism. He ain't shit on offense. With Kidd who knows. Kidd make Dampier look decent at times. But you can't deny Diop's presence in the paint. My main guy I want is Michael Pietrus. But Diop is definately a need. Our interior defense is soft as baby shit. Especially with Dirk at the 4.
Damn, this market is kinda week. The Kings best bet is to re-sign Beno Udrih and do a sign and trade with artest to add more dept to the roster at the point guard position. After that we could try to make a run at Michael Petrius.

In a perfect world i'd love to get Diop and Pietrus to split the mid-level exception and call it a offseason. Its what they're both worth. About 5.9 million put together. But with cats weighing so much on "potential" it wouldn't shock me if both of them cats end up getting the mid-level exception by two different teams. And yea its fucked up we only have Dampier. What in the fuck happened to Jamal Magloire? How you go from being a All Star to can't even get any playing time for a Mavericks team that doesn't even have a backup center and has Dampier starting for them? Cat is only 29. Well he came in out of high school so its gonna take a longer time for him develop. Especially for a big man. I mean don't get me wrong if I had to put money on it i'd say he's a bust. But I would take a shot on dude. His defense in the post is above average. Look at Deshawn Stevenson and Stephen Jackson. Them cats bummed along for more than 2-3 years and they've become solid vets in this league.
I don't know about potential but he is better than Diop...they are both big clumsy but Brown brings more of a scoring threat than Diop and his 2 point a got damn gam
