WHAT THE FUCK IS HAPPENING IN ATLANTA!!

Fighting Child Prostitution

Child prostitution is on the rise not just in other countries around the world, but right here in America. The Department of Justice says, on any given day, tens of thousands of children across America are involved in prostitution. But what's being done to stop it?

This week NOW on PBS visits Atlanta, Georgia to see how one American city is handling the tragic phenomenon of child prostitution. It is one of 27 American cities where the problem seems to be spinning out of control.

"It's one of those issues that doesn't get discussed and therefore there's an assumption that perhaps either it doesn't exist at all or the young women and girls who are prostitutes are there by their own free will," Atlanta's Mayor Shirley Franklin tells NOW.

About two years ago Mayor Franklin launched an aggressive campaign in her city—where the adult entertainment industry is booming—to crackdown on pay-for-sex customers, or "Johns."

She's also launched an ad campaign to raise awareness of the problem of child prostitution and ordered her police department to develop better ways to protect children caught up in the trade.

"[The child prostitutes are] ten or 11 years old, and the age is getting lower. We're not talking about 17 and 18 and 19 year olds, although we could," Franklin says.

One would think fighting child prostitution is a cause everyone could get behind. But the battle against this epidemic in Atlanta has been difficult, and the more NOW on PBS dug into the story, the more challenges we discovered.

"Girls were coming into juvenile court and talking about the same pimp .... and they had names that were branded on them, not tattoos. These are brands. To show ownership of the young person," says Alesia Adams, a former children's advocate for Atlanta's juvenile court system.

Can we stop a child prostitution epidemic in our own country?

First let me say under no circumstances do I or would I condone the usage of children in the sex business. But I do believe America needs to stop lying to itself. Stop lying about what its about and own up to the fact that Americans are as sexual as any people in any other country on this planet. Amereica still paints a dirty picture about sex refusing to accept the reality of human sexuality. Face it we are all sexual beings. If you admit to in then it can be correctly addressed.

Look at what's happening to catholic priest, that religion is in trouble. Why set unrealistic goals for priest? Before they were priest they are human beings. That does not change once you enter into the priesthood you are still human. Humans have sexual needs. (they get no pass on their gay activities) But all this is an extension of the unrealistic ideals religion places on people and in particular Americans with their blind beliefs.

If prostitution were to be legalized it could then be regulated as it is in countries like Holland. Not only did they legalize prostitution but drug usage too. They have effectively eliminated the need for the corner dealers and provided a district to where you sexual needs can be met. Almost like meeting at a bistro.

Legalization could mean eliminating the need for those who exploit the young like Magic Juan posted by Blunt. It means removing the criminal element from the game. Tax revenues for the government, regulatory controls equate to safer women and monitoring reducing the risk for all involved.

Remember at one time playing numbers was illegal in the US. Now the whole country plays numbers daily and the government is now reaping the rewards instead of the Mafia. I say legalize it and legalize certain drugs like weed and stop the lies.

shit I thought this was common knowledge among people that live in the hood when I was younger I would see kids 10-19 that were pimped by there family members or older boy friends on the stroll late at night sad thing yes but what are the police and community doing about it not a damn thing know one wants to get involved
