or "WHY REGGIE MILLER and KENNY SMITH SUCK ASS as announcers".
this post is solely for the people who have seen the last play AND watched the following commentary by TNT analysts reggie miller and kenny smith. charles barkley's take will be discussed afterwards.
so let's establish some facts first.
robert horry inbounded the ball to brent barry.
brent barry raised the ball up (not really a ball fake) and derek fisher leapt at the ball.
brent barry attempts a SKATE DRIBBLE while derek fisher is IN THE AIR, and derek fisher lands ON TOP OF brent barry.
no call, game over, fakers lead series 3-1. fine.
post game, dunces reggie miller and kenny smith both agree that the contact WAS a foul, but blame the no-call on their belief that brent barry did not further "sell" the call.
objection #1: floppers sell calls. (see steve nash flailing arms after receiving hip check from robert horry; see sasha vujacic covering FACE with both hands after being struck in the shoulder and neck). reggie miller and kenny smith were both WRONG to suggest that the O player must/should "sell" a foul to an official. we should expect that officials are competent at their professions and call OBVIOUS fouls.
continuing, dunces reggie miller and kenny smith (in their eagerness to hear themselves talk), even with the benefit of replay both proved how nonsensical their "analysis" is.
objection #2: the pair of morons kept insisting that brent barry should have done something extra to entice/draw a 3 shot SHOOTING foul. apparently they've BOTH forgotten that there is such a thing as a non-SHOOTING foul. remember, derek fisher landed ON TOP OF brent barry while he was executing a SKATE DRIBBLE. whoTF is asking for a SHOOTING foul? people with functional eyes clearly saw a defensive non-SHOOTING foul.
charles barkley had his own take. he was bold and independent enough (though he partially agreed with the dunces) to relate that as a player, he preferred that the outcome of the game not rest in the hands of the officials. i completely respect that perspective, because he didn't attempt to excuse the no-call on an absence of flopping, like reggie miller or kenny smith did.
i haven't been to BGOL today, but i'm SURE there are at least a DOZEN idiots who have fully absorbed (and regurgitated) the last 12 hours of spin on the no-call. time will tell.
