I believe E-flirting can lead to establishing friendships that could develope into relationships. I say this because I've known it to happen.

You start IMing each other sending pics back and forth and exchange ideas talk about your likes and dislikes (board members, yeah I said it :D) and you eventually decide to meet. It's happened to me and I know I'm not the only one its happened to. So in answer to question, yes there is a point to it.
 
Man I love e-flirting. I hold back though. I go on cam and trade pix once in a blue moon. It has its challenges though.
